4:50 It's fascinating how the trees just stop at that altitude.. Trees trees trees trees trees dirt. What's neat about electric vehicles doing this race - is that altitude doesn't really affect them from the bottom to the top. Except in the case of keeping everything cool because the air is a bit thinner. Otherwise, no affect on the power output since the motor doesn't rely on the amount of oxygen in the air. And it's freaking quiet.

By the way, in my opinion the safety could use some improvement. There are a lot of high banks or whatever where people would be safe yet at 4:11 there are like a hundred people behind a fence that's not good for anything. A puncture or suspension failure at the wrong spot and you get another Le Mans '55. Then bye-bye Pikes Peak.

Previous to final run the team found out that car is somehow faster if they REDUCE the power by some 10%, then in mid-course they lose power to rear motors. I don`t know if my math would be correct here, but at the first glance does this mean they achieved a record on just a 45% of power this thing can produce? I mean what the hell...... if that thing would be unleshed to full power. TheRealInsaneMode :)

It's not a linear equation due to all the variables involved (mostly: traction). Just because they lost 45% power doesn't mean they would have magically been 45% faster or something crazy like that. But yeah, they have proven in previous runs that they can absolutely destroy all the previous records. They just need to do it reliably enough to set the record.

Will Davis Just to think, this squirrel (lets call him Bob) has been going to PP each year, like his father before him and grandfather before that. You see, to become a true manly squirrel, one must run each year over the road just before a car passes. But lately, in squirrel community, there have been myths of cars that make no sound and may squirrels have not returned from this proof-of-being-a-man test. No ones been able to confirm these myths, until now. Bob was the one who got away from the silent death, but just. Only just.

Most EV uses motors mounted on the chassis with axles, CV joints and - one speed - reduction gearboxes. These latter requires grease and oil (much less than I.C.E., but still some litres of the stuff over the life of a vehicle), and someone must make them. It may as well be one Pennzoil... (In other words, once a new tech seems poised to kill your main market, the sage [wo]man tries to put their toes in the new ones it offers, before these develop established players).

@asianforce9 жыл бұрын
C Funk actually the battery being heavier might be a good thing, it might lead to higher traction.
@ColbyFulton9 жыл бұрын
asianforce Sure, but nothing is more important than thrust to weight ratio. The car is all-wheel drive so traction won't be too much of an issue.
@asianforce9 жыл бұрын
is there anyway to raise the rps of the motor any higher?.
@ColbyFulton9 жыл бұрын
asianforce Actually the battery probably spins at 10,000 rpm naturally, and is geared down heavily to provide the right torque to move the car. Electric cars don't usually have a transmission so I doubt it can go 1:1 ratio
@asianforce9 жыл бұрын
isnt transmission a bad thing for overall power to road? since your putting energy through a massive list of gears and moving part with makes it so you are losing to the environment?

Yeah yeah, futures electric, piston engine is dead. We've been hearing this for decades now. Unless you fancy your electric car collecting its current from overhead wires like an electric train then its not going to replace many piston engined vehicles anytime soon until the battery charging problem is solved. 9 mins to the top is impressive , but how long was the battery on charge for? Those piston engine competitor cars can be refilled in less than a minute.
@MartianGopnik8 жыл бұрын
Goodness, I don't know why they still have those idiotic noisemakers on the EVs. I know they were added under the misconception that "you can't hear electric vehicles;" this video proves that anywhere but in the slowest corners--where the cars are travelling at speeds that are not likely to cause serious harm to a spectator *anyway*--the combination of wind noise and drivetrain noise is louder than the obnoxious siren. Those sirens probably just make collisions *more* likely, due to driver distraction. I'm curious to hear the drivers' opinions on them, actually...
