this is my range! the bill isn’t close to 5k is much under and they’re doing lots of other things not talked about in the video, some custom things i requested. One of the most expensive bits is the parts not necessarily the labor, that little battery since it’s completely out of stock almost everywhere is 500 alone from resellers. supply and demand i guess. but it’s in good condition cause i meticulously chose one that was a one owner, owned by someone very wealthy from new york city who kept extensive upkeep on the service records, and had lower mileage on it. i’ve thrown 18k of my own miles on it and it’s been a joy to own. sure it’s not as cheap to run as a honda civic, but if your concern is money then you shouldn’t be looking at a range at all. this is my second sport i’ve owned, i take it off roading, camping, and on long haul drives and it’s one of the most comfortable and fun suvs i’ve ever owned. plus a GREAT stereo… once that pesky center channel speaker gets fixed 🤣. Thanks wizard, mike, and daniel for looking after her!

Not bad! I actually like range rovers. I'd buy one to test my diagnostic and repair abilities down the road, 😂 Only thing that would have scared me is NYC... Those are hard miles I wouldn't pay a premium for over a higher mileage vehicle from a rural area. All that shifting, accelerating, stopping, idling.. only to do it again 2 blocks later. Btw cool to see you get out with it. I live in a rural area with thousands of miles of logging roads. Real fun to go out for a day and never hit pavement, see some bear and moose... I want to pick up a truck bed camper and spend some nights out there. I won't do it in a tent anymore!

Two points, first I counted 4 repairs, Brake pads on all wheels, center dash speaker, supercharger belt, and rear battery, not 3 as video tittle says. Not to mention the removel of shielding from under the engine means extra work being done there. Second, beware of NYC second hand vehicles, this is because of rock salt used by the city when snow is threated. It used to be they would salt only when snow hit the ground, now the city salts when there is a threat of snow. This means that any vehicle used in NYC has or will have a rust problem.

I've never owned a Range or Land Rover but I've had a few Jaguars at this point and in my experience they are just fine in terms of reliability. But every time I bought one you could tell the previous owner just didn't do the recommended maintenance on them and I assume that's why they break on people cause the 1st owners don't do or care about the maintenance so it gets missed because I do the regular maintenance and nothing never had any issues on my Jags.

Do yourself a favor and replace the coolant with waterless coolant, like Evans. Keeps the engine just as cool, but zero pressure. The pressure cap on these is 20psi, which means there is 20PSI working to break the plastic coolant pipes open and push through the water pump seals. Waterless coolant will save you big money on these cars on water pumps and plastic pipe repairs, and maybe save the cost of a new engine, and never needs to be replaced.

Yes the Jaguar engines were built on separate lines within the Ford Bridgend Engine Plant in South Wales… the plant also made some engines for Volvo. Sadly the plant has now gone… but Jaguar now produce new generation engines from a new factory at Wolverhampton in the English Midlands.

Not a Ford v8, it was built in a Ford plant along with many ecoboost engines however, many of its castings have “FOMOCO” casted into them. There are several differences between a coyote/vodoo v8 and the 5.0 Jaguar/Land Rover developed v8. Kind of silly thing lots of people assume. Oh and an fyi, the coyote v8 is an evolution from the aj133 Jaguar v8 4.0, one of the best engines Jaguar ever built.

These are fantastic vehicles, and they are also shockingly easy to maintain. Oil changes are among the easiest I've ever seen - the filter is right on top of the engine, and it takes less than 20 min using an oil extractor. 2014 - up Rover Sports are also very reliable - not on a level with a Land Cruiser or a Honda Pilot, but better than BMW and Audi and pretty much on par with most domestic SUVs. The key with these vehicles is that you have to USE them - Take it off road, tow with it, etc. and you won't be disappointed.if you are buying it for the brand name or as a mall crawler, look elsewhere. And avoid the 2009-2013 5.0 V8 LR4s and RRS like the plague.

I own a 2017 in the UK. It's got the 3 Liter twin turbo diesel, which is also a Ford Engine (and also found in Jaguars, Citroens, etc.) It's not been bad at all. A couple of common failure items on that engine (especially the throttle body, which always fails and causes DPF blockage.) Insurance is hugely expensive because criminals reign free in the UK, and these are often the target of thieves. It gets 33-38 mpg, makes more than enough power and is a pleasure to drive here and over in Europe. When we take car trips my kids put up a fuss if we say we're taking my wife's Audi; they always want to take the Range Rover.

Not quite related to the Coyote, Wizard. It is a JLR Group V8. The early ones were very problematic with brittle timing chain guides that allowed the chain to slack, and in many cases, the engines would jump timing and be destroyed. That issues was later remedied though. Not very many issues after that with the engine itself. Suspension and electrical issues were still somewhat common, however.

The AJ133 JLR engine, build in Dagenham, right? Well, the problem with whatever JLR tell you is this 1. There is not JLR engine plant in Dagenham, it's a Ford engine plant; my dad used to work there. 2. If you take one of these apart, like I've done quite a bit, you'll find FoMoCo (Ford Motor Company) stamped all over it. Ford take their engine (Coyote derivative) and tart it up with some JLR plastics, and JLR claim it as theirs.

In the 1990's when Ford bought Jaguar, they walked in the door and what did they see? A brand new DOHC V8 engine. When they examined it, they realized it was superior to their own new "Novi" or what became known as their SOHC Triton V8. So they kept it, and used in their Thunderbird and Lincoln LN cars. The supercharged engine in this car IS a Jaguar designed engine!

Land Rover was sold by Ford back in 2008 and the 2nd Generation Sport was never made during Ford's ownership, it was introduced in 2013. When Ford sold Jaguar Land Rover, there was a deal for Ford to continue to supply engines from Bridgend in South Wales to J-LR for a few years. Sadly this is now at an end and the Ford engine factory in Bridgend has now closed.

Q: Why should I buy a Range Rover? A1: It's not the worst brand for reliability. A2: It's no worse than a Ford. LOL. The owner of that Range Rover is brave for driving it so far from home. Well, it's not at the Wizard's shop for no reason.

Hey Dave aka Wizard, I think all cars should always have the head lights on always. I see grey cars driving in the rain and they are practically invisible. What do you think about that. I noticed the Range Rover head lights came on.after stariting the motor.

The Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway) made it a legal requirement for headlights to be on whenever the car was in use. This spread throughout the EU, nowadays all cars have white “running lights” - usually leds. We also have additional high intensity tail light (manually operated) for use in restricted visibility. Those measures really do help see other vehicles.

@CarWizard I'm curious what you think about replacing the rotors. It seems with almost any modern car these days, everybody wants to just replace the rotors as a matter of fact. On cheaper cars, it seems if there's any runout, there's not enough material to resurface the rotor, so every pad job becomes a pads+rotors job. But on a heavier car like that one with driller and grooved rotors, I'm curious if 1) you just leave it be if they seem thick and unwarped, or 2) if you measure runout and offer the customer the option to roll the dice or replace, 3) can you resurface them?? I'm guessing on this heavy a high performance vehicle, this is probably its second set of pads.
@crazyfroggie6546
@crazyfroggie6546 2 жыл бұрын
15 to 20k to wear out a set of pads, less if the owner drives enthusiastically. And this one being the 5 litre, he probably enjoys hoofing it around. There's a lot of weight to stop after all. But I remember that Rangies have a thing of the brakes squealing first thing in the morning. Nothing wrong with the brakes, just a light layer of oxidation from being parked overnight, but the LR warranty makes dealerships strip and re chamfer the pads every time.

@@lincoln6981 and the "lock" position is not mechanical, its electrical to prevent the suspension from raising going over a certain speed. You should lift it in off-road mode, mainly because if you jack the car up you have to jack forever.

In Europe 85% Of the Range Rover’s are diesel (to expensive gas prices)version very very creepy cars breaking chains and crankshaft under 100,000 km. And when you have to change a turbo you need to takeoff the cabin from the chassis… The older models Head BMW engines after that Ford engines they make now Range Rover engines diesel version…

No wood because it's not a Range Rover, it's a Sport. The Sport is on the LR4 chassis. At least it was in the series of Sport he is showing. It is a smaller and cheaper vehicle than the Range Rover. I have a 2019 Range Rover and traded in a 2008 for it. Both have real wood trim inside. I wish Land Rover would stop confusing the situation by calling smaller vehicles a Range Rover this and that. They are not. PS: Mine were/are the HSE trim level that I believe has been discontinued. I do not know if the older or current SE trim level has wood. HSE and above do.
@stanleyharrris7671

The one he showed is a 2014(L494), the 494 body was 2014-2022, and now there is the L461(23mY). It is a Land Rover Range Rover Sport. Range Rover is a sub-division of Land Rover which includes the Sport, the Evoque, the Velar, and the Range Rover, which is actually called the Vogue in Europe. Land Rover has the Discovery, the Discovery Sport, and the Defender. Sports from 2006-2013(US models) were based on the Lr3/lr4 chassis. The 2013(UK) 2014(US) sport has its own chassis. The Discovery shares a chassis with the Evoque. A sport can be spec'd with wood if desired. It also depends on the trim, a RRS SVR is going to cost more than a RR HSE.
@inforobob

@@stanleyharrris7671 Can you show me documentation on that? Range Rover has been a model of car manufactured by Land Rover. I have never seen anything denoting it as a division or separate group. And as I stated, some so called Range Rovers share the chassis of models sold as Land Rovers. Thanks for the Sport chassis clarification. The Discovery being a Land Rover and the Evoque being baged as a Range Rover.
