Oh and I never had any head gaskets go, but my passenger side valve cover gasket went on my old bugeye, and 3 different coolant hose clamps all snapped on different occasions, and of course my cv boots ended up splitting as well all on this one car. 158k on my 2016 wrx 6mt...I agree, Subaru knocked it out of the park. It’s my first import and has been the best car I’ve owned. I was a Ford guy before, and I work for Lincoln, but I am definitely now a Subaru “fan boy”. This car is very well-rounded. Perfect blend of performance and economy with all year drivability. Easy to maintain too. I do all of the work on mine and everything is so easy to get to. The engineers at Subaru really thought of the consumer with this car. The glass and front on mine have seen better days and I unfortunately had to replace my trans due to a throw out bearing exploding and badly damaging the original trans. I don’t blame Subaru for this, I was hard on the car...but damn she’s taken a beating. Great review, hopefully when I hit 200k I can do something similar!

@@betterthantelevision5027 It depends. Internals on an FA are not made to get over 300 horses. Could it stand it? Sure, but won't be as reliable... @@lecoureurdesbois86 UEL headers actually lower HP 12-17 hp. Sorry to burst your bubble. Partly why the 2015+ model has a bump in HP increase from previous gens is due to the equal length headers they put on the car. Although some prefer the hp loss for the official Subie rumble. To each their own.
@lecoureurdesbois862 жыл бұрын
@@19Herofade92 It's not about the design, it's about restriction. If you have aftermarket UEL headers it's going to have better air flow than stock EL ones, more power. If you put aftermarket EL on an STI, it's also going to have better airflow than the stock UEL, because better air flow, less restriction. The EJ having the turbo on the side means UEL makes shorter way to exhaust gasses to the turbo, which means it begins to boost faster than EL. On the FA, the turbo isn't on the side, so it doesn't matter and going UEL isn't going to make it spool faster since the turbo remains in the middle, it's just for the cool sound and you will get some minimal gains from better flow. Putting EL on an STI is the same as putting an UEL on a WRX: you're just making one of the sides have longer header pipes. The increase of power from the previous generation might be due to the fact that it is a completely new engine with better technology and tuning, and not just going EL, don't you think? This is actually a nice review, thank you. It lets people know that the WRX is like the rest of the Subaru lineup - fairly reliable and does not need a lot of repairs. That is good to know. My last car was a 2006 Saab 9-3 that I sold at 190,000 miles after 12 years - still running today with 225,000 and a second owner. The seat bolster wore out at 175,000 miles and I replaced it at a upholster shop but that was really it. Seats do show signs of wear at 200,000 so that is not a big deal. Thank you for doing this.

I had removed that and put sensor directly in muffler stream as it is designed to be. Have around 310 miles recorded and seems good to me (knock on wood). I knew what I was getting into when modding the car. I tried going the safer route. I've had my headaches with it troubleshooting some things but never left me on side of road (also knock on wood of course :)). Car runs well, sensors report back well, no CEL, etc. The car is how I wanted it. Yes it is not ever going to be perfect for me but as of right now its the closest I can get. Looking to keep it until it does not pay to keep it anymore. Knowing myself if I have it down the road and car is in one piece I'll likely keep maintaining it. Maintenance as with any car is key. Carbon buildup on valves since the car is DI is a bummer/flaw. Wish they also added in port injection but of course that increases development costs and such. I did what I could to reduce buildup but can never seem to stop the soot that builds up over time.

@@trigun989 Yeah runs well :). The head unit I have is no longer made anymore but yeah the Pioneer sounds nice. The microphone on my unit sucks though. I would consider an Android head unit or something like that but has to be double din. I don't know why I ended up wanting a head unit that can play DVDs because not ONCE did I play one lol. Only tested it. Yeah, the horn is very loud and can anger people so be careful and the cops would give you a ticket. I have it wired on a 3 way switch so I can toggle stock and that horn. I have a stock Subaru fog light switch and wired that to the compressor with relay. While the horns sound great in winter many times in hot humid weather the horns can sound crappy at times. But for most part I love them. Brake dust is not that bad also with my setup. They still brake well.

2015 WRX with 63,500. Only thing I've replaced was the TOB like you're doing soon. That was personal preference though because it was the old designed TOB and I got the updated one under the Service Bulletin.

This, is what shows taking care of your car will do. My dumb ass bought mine, was showing off to friends launching it for a few years and one day grenaded the transmission. $7300 later after building a fresh cased trans, I now drive like I’m charioting miss daisy. Well, kinda haha. Hope mine lives that long, so far being on trans number 2, I gotta say I’m proud the engine out lived the trans

I bought a 15 used with 62,xxx miles. 2 months later had to put a motor in it. 15 thousand miles later it now needs another engine... oil changed every 3k miles with Motul oil. Have also recently found out it had the transmission replaced at around 50k. I’m all set with Subarus

Wow!! Impressive!!! Ours is a HWY queen as well, and for it being a '17 Premium(Bought new), it is also holding up well. Stock as yours is and almost 70k miles. Here I thought we had a ton of miles lol.
@dlg54854 жыл бұрын
Jesus you must be driving every waking hour lol. I thought I drove a lot at 25,000 mi per year, also mostly highway. I'm currently shopping for a 2020 WRX, so it's good to know they can last for 200,000 trouble free miles if well maintained...and left stock. A lot of the tuner crowd loves to bitch about the reliability of this car, while they're trying to push it to well over 300 hp. Obviously, if you blow a gasket or throw a rod in that case, it's not Subaru's fault.
@Semibrucelee4 жыл бұрын
While you are right, they mostly refer to the STI which is still running on the old EJ platform. WRX are now on FA20 since 2015, which would the newest. So it's nice to see what this engine is capable of doing reliability wise.
@im2tweaked4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be so quick to knock the ej personally I recently traded a 2010 hatchback wrx heavily modified for a 2017 wrx..... my hatch had 181k and about 400awhp.... i miss that car but life circumstances changed....... glad to know my 17 will last forever if I don't mess with it lol

Holy crap!!! My throw out barring for the clutch went out on mine at about 40k miles on it after 5 years of owning the vehicle!
@trigun9894 жыл бұрын
Considering the amount of highway miles. You might be using the clutch more than him if that 40K is mostly city. Guy prly rows through the gears once every 100 miles LOL
@brandonhedges7194 жыл бұрын
You may be resting your foot on the clutch without realizing and is the main cause of premature throw out bearing wear. I used to do that on my civic and made sure to correct this when I got my WRX to ensure I didn't bring a bad habit to my new car.

They have a known issue with the 2015 and 2016 compressor clutches. Unfortunately they only cover it with the bumper to bumper warranty. They replace the whole compressor but you can just replace the clutch even though it can be a real pain.

I've got a 17 base WRX, I installed some mud flaps, fog lights, rear fog brake light( If you haven't done this I recommend, definitely helps from getting rear-ended because of how bright it is), Cobb Big SF intake with the AP. I drove the car a lot when I first got it, took it to the drag strip before and after the tune. It has just under 30k miles(mostly highway miles too) because I was worried about driving it too much lol. This video makes me feel a lot better.

Nice. I got a '15 with 95k, MAINTINENCE is crucial and baby it. You can hit the gas a couple of times when You got competition next to You, but don't do it all the time, If your a daily like me. Just replace My clutch at 87k, and ac compresor. Just think that the new FA20 engine is built in colaboration with Toyota, so Subaru meant this to last longer.
