The ¼-mile drag race. It’s the benchmark for straight-line performance, and in this video from Motorcyclist we pit BMW’s S1000RR, Ducati’s 1299 Panigale S, and Yamaha’s YZF-R1 against each on the dyno, on the scales, and at the strip.

To have Yamaha’s reliability it’s worth being 0.18 of a second slower. Plus crossplane sound 😍 and they feel as light as a 600!

Yamaha reliability? Lol. BMW makes the most reliable engines of these 3, and their warranty support is unmatched so as long as you keep cycling between new bikes you'll never have a single issue. On the other hand yamaha has countless gearbox, brake and engine failures. Crossplane sound I can't argue with but on the other hand the BMW has a very unique sound for an inline 4.

@@brucewayne2397 That's just not true tho, that engine has the most insane intake roar and a very unique sound for an inline 4. It's definitely the most exciting inline 4 out there, way better than any japanes i4, maybe except the crossplane from the yamaha, but then apart from sound that engine is not that impressive. The RR engine also pops and bangs even with a stock exhaust, not many bikes do that. If that's not character, I don't know what is.

@@AntaresSQ01 out of the main players if you put a vote it's the worst for sound.. against the panigale v4s it loses in that area, same as the yamaha which sounds a million times better and even the fireblade..its not just my opinion but the general opinion check out the reviews on here by major bike channels who all agree the same, bmw is great as a machine an performance both on road am track but the engine is boring for character and sound which is very important on bikes, my next bike is a v4s! I could easily have the bmw for less money but the engine is enough to pull me to towards the ducati knowing full well all round the bmw is likely better as per most reviews.

Wow BMW has all the comforts of heated grips, cruise control with all the electronic assists and is the fastest. BMW rules in technicality but not in design and style. Though I suspect the R1 has better electronics for tracks. Thanks for the video!

QuantumQ80 All the comfort, if you're small, tall riders will prefer the Super Duke R. Also the Duke has way more torque which makes it a better daily driver bike. Duke has 135 hp and 85 ft lbs of torque at 4000 rpm - compare that to any. I like the BMW but dont want to have to rev to 9000 rpm to get a little power, not on the street anyhow.

NakedBeachRider Yes of course, I myself have a Tuono V4r. SuperSports are not very comfortable for tall riders (I'm 6'2), I had a Yamaha R6 and that was extremely uncomfortable after 30 mins of riding. I would love to try the Super Duke R though :P

I think with any liter bike you'll be just fine for around town... even my daytona 675 has plenty for spontaneity around town.. rarely find myself wishing for more. Then again, I only weigh 145-150

R1 may have a less peak power left on the wheels, but it probably has a better and longer power and torque curve compared to the others that's why it was able to keep up very well.

It's relative... though all Panigales starting from 959 to 1299S have a husky loud Ducati-sh noise... it's pretty tolerable and makes it what it is(like a Ferrari in cars).. the game changes if you put a custom exhaust.. for ex. I saw one in a showroom with full Akrapovic on and it sounded ear-burstingly loud while spitting fire.. but that's the whole point aint it?? :)

1299 Panigale S with full akrapovic is much louder than cbr1000rr with Yoshimura slip on without a buffle. In person it seems twice as loud, on camera you can't really tell a difference.

Junefrey Ballon I have a 1299 Panigale, with Akrapovic. The Camera doesnt do justice to the Sound of 1299. In person its pretty loud. But much more loud on Higher Rpms. Kind of has a Cluttering Sound when the bike has cold start.

I love reading comments on comparisons for 1/4 mile lol these bikes are made for the race track not drag strip !!! put them at a track and the R1 is killing it right now actually there all killing it but the BMW is getting long in the tooth so that should be changing soon aslo next year GSXR and CBR will be joining the HP wars this should be a big year coming up !!! 2016 cant come soon enough .. also 1/4 miles are different with each rider you can get a kid that buys the most powerful fastest bike on the market and still gets owned by a guy that can ride the crap out of his bike and if you bring them to a race track were the real riders ride there are guys on 300's that can beat 600 maybe even 1000's ..the track is a different animal all together and anyone that rides a superbike should should ride the track at least once a year ...

1:15 These bikes are 6 years old now. Technical analysis- s1000 has more power... So it's pulling away. Panigale has bigger engine = more torque = better initial acceleration. But you can see R1 is starting to gain on ducati as it crosses the finish line traveling 0.5 mph faster.
