The wheel-slip at 4:33 and the wobble of 3237 as she pulls her train up the grade is awesome. Great train control.by the driver as she could have broken into more wheel slip at that stage. Fantastic video.

Beautiful work Bevan, great to see so many locos in steam, including the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. Your video work in the face of lots of other linesiders trying to get into shot was very well done. Have appreciated all your footage of the Garratt and other subjects.

The Whistle sounds so wild! Can anyone share how fast these locos can go, naming the source of your info if possible. I did read their top speed was about 60kph, but it seems to me those monsters may e able to go faster.

N.S.W HAS a GREATE COLLECTION OF operational steam loco like 6029, 3016,2705,3237,3642,5917,3830,3801and 3526 there is only one steam loco and that missing from the operational list 5711

@@mdgfb05 57 class is not to heavy to run on the line as it the class have a 23t axle loading which is almost identical to a 38 class axle loading

Question time from someone who likes trains, but has very limited knowledge about the engineering part of each type. Q one: In these steam engines, is there a mechanical means of feeding the coal in the boiler or it all has to be done by hand? If not why? Q two: Has any other fuel ever been used, other than coal, ( diesel perhaps?) to keep the boiler producing steam? Is there a reason coal is preferred to liquid fuel? I am sure some of you train lovers would have the answers to these questions.

A one: you can use the traditional hand feed or automatically via a stoker due to it less exhausting than done by hand(this is the case for NSWGR No. 6029) A two: there is one Victorian R class No. R711 that formerlly uses to run coal but has been converted to oil run

@@voidjavelin23 Thanks for your reply. I guess, to all 'steam engine die hards' the use of Diesel fuel defeats the original idea and design of a steam engine. Things do change but, some things should perhaps stay traditional. 😉

Park where the road from Picton to Thirlmere meets the loopline and then walk back along the access road towards Picton. Takes nearly 30 minutes.
