I had a 2012 Tiger 800. I love the 2015 updates, much needed equipment and electronics. But I did appreciate the awesome throttle response from the cable actuated throttle on my 2012. The Tiger Explorer throttle by wire isn't perfect and I would have hoped they made it better on the 800.

Cal Moto - Great video. The ride by wire throttle response might be better (less mushy as you say) if you set it to Sport Mode. The $1500 premium for the "x" version is worth it. The WP suspension is fantastic. I've found the traction control a great feature in slippery wet clay (dirt) roads. It probably saved my bike loaded with gear from going down more than once. I traded my Tiger 1050 in for the Xcx and I'm not looking back. Ride Safely.

Just test rode a Tiger today, and loved it. As you said it's laser sharp handling, and a great engine. Really fancied a BMW for aesthetics and the reasons you state about controls - let's face it the Tiger controls seem a generation out of date now, even when compared to the new generation Bonnevilles - but the handling and ride are amazing. So I've ordered one and can't wait.

I love that 3 pot pull so much more than the BMW, if I was going to buy one, even though I personally believe the fit and finish is better on the BMW, I'd probably buy the Triumph b/c of the way the engine feels to me.

Nice bike and the frank comments are appreciated, including your moment of realization and changing your mind (".. yeah, it's worth it."). But I spotted three risky riding moves. If they are a habit, the law of averages will catch you out. I counsel, if I may, more patience and less "cleverness."

Another great review dude! I loved my 800 but the suspension let down what was otherwise a really great bike. The engine is a peach and the riding position is perfect. Thx man!

Yes, the new suspension is great; the new throttle blows:(. I need a Crumble fix, anything in the hopper?

Hi Cal. I will be getting either this triumph 800 xcx or the 2015 bmw f800gs adventure. Most of the riding I do is on the tarmac. Which bike would you recommend and why. Thanks
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
I say Tiger all the way; it will kick the F800s ass all day long and twice on Sunday on the street! Much more power, much smoother, better suspenders. I hope that helps:)

Hey great video. Loved the camera angles. Ordered it for myself and will be getting it in a week. I live in India, and big bikes (650cc+) have only just started entering the Indian Market. So I am jumping to the Tiger from a 500cc Royal Enfield. I took a test drive and found the bike easy to handle. Any tips for when I just start riding this thing? In India traffic is a b***h, its almost bumper to bumper. I'd love to hear what you have to say. Also is there any way to mount a GPS/Phone on this thing?
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
Just give yourself time to acclimate to the new bike. Don't be too cautious, or you won't ride well. Also, watch as many Royal Jordanian vids as possible:)

Zoom Zoom Zoom! Can you tell us more about the suspension? How does it compare to say the F800GS(A)? Seems like perhaps this bike might compete with the F800GS a little better, or at least I'm curious how it compares off road. I don't suppose you've got that xcx dirty to find out?

Great review Cal and thanks for sharing I really do love this bike but did not sound great about the fly by wire throttle did it get better the more you rode it?
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
It didn't; I do like the cables better:(
@deanchild98489 жыл бұрын
Cal Moto ok 2014 version it is then
@mqbitsko259 жыл бұрын
Dean Child One advantage of the electronic throttle is that the response is a matter of programming, so it won't be long before the aftermarket will allow you to easily re-map it. Ride-by-wire can be whatever you want it to be. Just give it a few months.
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
Mickey Bitsko Agreed; from me phone:)

Needs more cowbell. Actually, it could use more armor and better off road tires would help. Looks great though, and the motor is great. Fly by wire is neat, but cruise control is GREAT for highway touring

Hello Cal. I live in Brazil and I have a Tiger 800 here. When I am riding in a heavy traffic sometimes it is possible to feel a hot air flow from the engine directly to the legs. Is said that the new model have a better air flow and this issue is solved now. Did you feel some heat discomfort in your legs during the riding? I saw you was in a very free traffic during this video but I would like to know your impressions or knowledge about this issue. Thanks and hugs from Brazil, Guilherme
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
I have not spent enough time on this bike to answer that accurately . I suspect it will still be hotter than you are hoping when in the high temperatures. Try to find a demo ride and compare it to your Tiger....good luck:)

I enjoy those quick reviews a lot. Pretty honest too. Where do you mount your cam?

I mount a Gopro camera on my chin guard. I feel that this position captures the right amount of the bike. Does that seem right to you?

nice vid ... I also want to buy one. Does anyone know how long it takes to get one after you order it? For instance if the dealer doesn't have it in the color you want it...
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
It could be a day; it could be two months. I would give my dealer a deposit and ask him to find the bike at another dealership and arrange a swap. That said, my experience with colors is that they really aren't as important as you might think. If you get too particular, and are not willing to place a deposit and wait, you'll most likely be without a new bike:(. PS. motorcycle wraps are always an option.
@peterdedic11099 жыл бұрын
yea, I agree.. and used color just as an example, and wouldn't be really concerned about color - it anyway cover such a small area on the bike that you hardly notice it :-) .... however I think the more likely reason can be that the dealership is small rather small and haven't ordered another bike. One BMW dealer for example told me that BMW starts putting the bike together only after you order it (1200GS) - so that certainly can take several months... One more thing to add - I don't have a problem with placing a deposit and by all means I will do that once I get in touch with him - I can even pay out the whole price if necessary :-)
@peterdedic11099 жыл бұрын
.... and btw ... thank you for replying so quickly ... I'm planning 2-week long trip through the Balkans at the end of May and it would be awesome to do it on this new Tiger ...

new susp is just on different level vs 2014 version - XCx is more than worthy upgrade on that basis alone. for example - front end on 2014 on high speed highway ride was very wooly and wobbly making bike unstable. New WD sup can be stiffened up and XCx behaves just like XR - rock solid and stuck to the pavement. T-by-W has different modes - there is sports mode that makes it very responsive and off-road mode that is much more forgiving of any twitchy movement - great when you are on unstable surface! cruise control makes it great on log tours with highway stints. Recommended!

Keep both hands on the handlebars.. Give the traffic time to see you when your overtaking and stay over to the left on righthand bends also stay on your side of the road ..

I have a '12. Great bike. My 5th triple. The factory crash bars suck and are actually bad for your engine/cases. I have SW's.

Is that bike past break in? I noticed you went well past the recommend break in RPM limit several times.
@calmoto90739 жыл бұрын
Matt Bickford Don't worry about it.
@mattb4rd9 жыл бұрын
Cal Moto I'm no more worried about it than you are, "Cal Moto". I already have my own xcx and I followed the recommended break in procedure. The person that buys the moto you tested, on the other hand... Additionally, the throttle behavior improves with a new throttle MAP. Which I had done during the break in service.

Is a "fly by wire" or "throttle by wire"? This is not an Airbus ;) Great bike that's for sure.
@plasticvisual9 жыл бұрын
It's the first year for them doing fly by wire, I'm sure they didn't refine it as well as they could have. Perhaps they will do that with the next years' models.
@DivineMisterAdVentures9 жыл бұрын
Gabriel P Dude - it would be totally wasted to not have updates to fly-by-wire. What's the point otherwise? You want to be able to fine tune it while texting on your phone.... :)

how do u compare it with the honda Africa twin

thats great ,i am more of the track focused guy ride a 16 R1 and 15 z1000 on street ,but most of my buddy started to touring and lil bit of off road ,so need a bike ,the higher CC bike are expensive ,heavy and hence off road is limited , africa twin factory in japan was on fire coz the earth quake so delayed by an year so did take a ride on the XR coz XCX was unavailable i loved the bike ,never felt any more need of power for this class ,but pls could u update me the bikes off road abilities coz u own one and the wp suspension will be great ,thanks for reply awaiting ur valuable feed back
@calmoto90738 жыл бұрын
To be clear, I do not own a Tiger 800; this is a review. That said, I'm an off road rider and have off road bikes for serious riding. The Tiger will handle anything the Honda will, and smoke it on the street.
@arjungowda51908 жыл бұрын
thank u much for ur reply and feed back friend ,this is a 2015 model bike is triumph planning or any rumors they coming out with a newer version or model of XcX or so , coz in india dealers will not inform they just wanna seal up their stock ;-)
