This DIY video shows how to change the automatic transmission fluid in a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. This service is required every 40,000 miles in many Volkswagen/Audi models with the DSG (direct-shift gearbox) transmission or S-tronic for Audi.

if you want to do it from the top you have to make sure that the amount of fluid you drained goes back into the transmission so if you drain 4.5 literes make sure you top fill the car with this much dsg fluid.

Great Video!! I wonder why they have the over flow pan and the "level tube" and not just a filler plug? Why did they chose 35C and not 70C? When the transmission heats up to say 70C the fluid most expand more and drop down the level tube? Seems to me the way you do it is as accurate as anyway. Is there a low/high fluid light for the TSG? Great video!! I change the motor oil in my 2015 Jetta TDI with an electric pump which sucks the oil out of the dipstick hole. Could the same method be used of sucking the oil out of the transmission through the filter housing hole and then just replace whatever amount was sucked out of it through the same hole from the top? It would avoid having to put the car up on stands and draining / filling from the bottom.
@Corysdiyauto
@Corysdiyauto 9 ай бұрын
Thank you! Well, I don't know if you can suck out all of the transmission fluid that way, I never tried it. It's better just to drain from the bottom. That way you know that you are getting the majority of the fluid out.

@Corysdiyauto
@Corysdiyauto 4 жыл бұрын
WolfganG - If you choose to fill from the top, then you have to measure the amount that you drain and then put the same amount back in. Once you put everything back together and start the engine and warm the transmission up, then there's no way to add more fluid if you need to unless you fill from the bottom. Yes, you can overfill from the top and then drain from the bottom if you choose, but once you have everything back together, then there's no way to add more fluid if you need to unless you fill from the bottom. I hope that you understand?

You will never got all the old fluid out. Don't worry about it. Clean enough is clean enough. I have the same theory about power steering fluid. Nobody ever thanks to change that. What I do is suck out whatever is in the reservoir and replace it every time I do an oil change. (Obviously not relevant if you have electric steering.)

Well, the factory uses an overfill method, so the first change will usually have more come out. After that, unless it's overfilled again, it should be less. All things being equal and all technicians being competent, of course.

Great video, thank you for doing this. My thoughts: typical VW B.S. with this horrible filter location and RIDICULOUS filling method. Wow.. but not at all surprised given how many dumb things they do on these cars. One thing that confused me. Why did you put 5 liters in only to have about 1 liter drain right back out? Seems pretty wasteful. I understand you need it to be at the correct level but I just can't get over how stupid this is. Not aimed at you, but VW.

Could you just pour the fluid in where the filter goes then install the filter and cap and not have to buy all them hoses and connection? To save $$ just what I would have done.
@Corysdiyauto
@Corysdiyauto 3 жыл бұрын
Roy Saenz - Yes, you can do that, but you have to measure the amount that you drain out and then put the same amount back in. You're also assuming that the amount of fluid that's in the transmission is the correct amount. This is the reason why I don't like to do it that way. The hose and funnel isn't that much money anyways and it's still cheaper than paying someone else to do it.
@danielschmitt6622

Why do you need to measure how much you put back in? In the video you just dumped all 5 liters in and let the excess pour out of the drain with the level tube in?
@Corysdiyauto
@Corysdiyauto Жыл бұрын
Well, there are 2 ways of doing this. The top fill method, which is when you fill from the filter location. With that method you have to measure how much you drain so that you can put the same amount back in. The second method is the bottom fill method, which is what I did in the video. I prefer this method, although you do waste some fluid, but it's more precise. I hope this helps.
