I just want to say, This speaker is AMAZING! I'm researching 2017 H Tuscons to buy as a pre-owned compact SUV (it's Dec. 2023) and this video offers me a very rich "baseline" education. Hyundai & Kia are offering values that Toyota was giving back in the late 70s/early 80s. Not saying there isn't value in Toyotas but it seems the 'Koreans' have stepped up their game. As Toyota was chasing after GM, Ford & Chrysler 30+ years ago, it appears to me Kia & Hyundai are taking away clients who might other wise buy a Toyota (Nissan or Mazda). It's good to have options and I can't recall in the past 30 years when more favorable options have been available for the consumer.

I'm very complicated...Hyundai and Kia...I don't know. They doesn't give Korean valuable services such as long period of warranty. They are selling reliable cars in the world and it makes me happy because I'm Korean. However, they disregard people who made them. Korean people bought a lot of cars from them when they are developing in other countries. When People in the would were blaming them, Korean got cars from them because they are the only survived Korean brand. We made them wealthy and 5th top contender of the would but...now...I feel shame...I hope they don't discriminate Korean.

Wonderful review as always Alex! It seems like the best time to purchase the new Tucson will be after the Santa Fe Sport is refreshed and Hyundai can equip the vehicle the way you know they would like to. I test drove the Eco model and actually thought it would be a great base trim, and the fully loaded Limited model still seemed like it was begging for more content. Seems like Hyundai may go the same route as Jeep with a Patriot/Compass and Cherokee surrounding the Compact CUV market rather than hitting it directly. Oh, sorry to say there's a typo in the economy graphic under the AWD equipped 2.0L's city numbers. I'd like the stalk status display if the vehicle were a rental, not so much once I've learned a vehicle's quirks though.

Just one note on the black interiors on the Tucson. Hyundai needs to step it up with some accent stitching, piping or bright trim on door panels & around door handle releases & console . The "stark" black interior look went out in the 80's. Considering the competition, including most other models from Hyundai, you'll will see what I'm talk'in about. This fault gets the most demerits on Limited models, as for paying thousands $$$ more, the overall interior appearance is about same as in the lower line.

I just love how Alex does the reviews, he gives a lot of info and comparison and understands that there is no perfect car. In my personal opinion I test drove all compact crossovers this year at a auto show and sat on mid and top trim levels. My favorite was the cx5. if you want basic trim the mazda it's the best, it offers the 2.5 liter plus push start ignition and for 400 bucks you get a big touch screen. with Tucson you need to step it up to the sport. Also the tucson has way too much hard plastic from all the way from sport to bottom trim. even in the Limited had some more than the others. My second choice it's tie with limited tucson or rogue. the rogue has a very nice interior. The tucson gauges look way to simple, nothing special, it looks cheap. The exterior it's the best, period, but to me the interior it's the most important after engine and performance since it's where you spend all of the time. Hyundai warranties it's hard to beat specially for me since I want to keep it for 10 years.

Great review, thanks Alex. Im in the market in this segment and have been impressed with the Tuscon, which I just learned about after test driving the CX-5 (which I liked). Your review dinged the cabin noise which surprised me because almost every other review raved about the cabin noise being exceptionally low. Thoughts? Also - how do you compare warranties? If purchasing a new car is this something you would consider in your decision? Do you think the reduced clearance of the Tuscon compared to the CX-5 would make a big difference in soft-roading? And lastly, Tuscon is SUPPOSED to support Carplay although there appears to be some delay in this. This would definitely be a part of my decision, do you know anything about this?
@AAutoBuyersGuide8 жыл бұрын
+Jaimie Harrow In our tester cabin noise was above our average in the segment, I'm not sure why it was not for others. On teh CarPlay front I know that Hyundai has committed to supporting it and it is my understanding that it should be available either now or by April. There was some speculation that they were waiting for iOS 9.3 which was just released.

Alex - I'm a long time viewer and am so appreciative of the level of detail you provide in your reviews. I read a blurb about the 2016 Tucson and came to your video. To be honest, my decision had been narrowed down to the CX5 and the Forester. You do not spend as much time discussing the Forester's place in this class. What are your thoughts between these 3? Lastly, can you comment on visibility from the cabin of the Tucson? That's a huge point of contention for me, which is why the Forester remains high on my list--I can actually SEE out of it.
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
+Jim Pryde Visibility is a strong point on the Forester. I generally only talk about the major sellers in a category because doing otherwise would make the videos too long. The Forester is usually 8th or 9th on the sales charts so I generally don't cover it unless there's a strong reason. The Forester's main selling point is price, it's inexpensive for a vehicle with standard AWD. My only complaints are that the low starting price meant Subaru had less to spend on the interior.
@JimPryde9 жыл бұрын

Sat in them all. CX5 front seats are too aggressive for me - feels like they are designed for one specific person's body, rear seat does NOT recline and is uncomfortably vertical. Escape front seats very comfortable, back seat bottom cushion too tiny and low. CRV seats leave me cold... nothing special. rear seat reclines, but not enough to make any difference. RAV4 front seats too mushy with not much shape... rear seat bottom cushion feels like a cardboard box. Can't get a power driver's seat unless you get the most expensive model. Toyota's idea of a telescoping steering wheel is a joke. The travel is like 1 inch and is still too far away. Now matter how high you make the driver's seat in the RAV4, you still see too much of the hood. Rogue is ok but again leaves me cold... front passenger seat is canted forward too much for my taste... makes me feel like I am sliding off... I hate that. When I sat in the back seat I hit my head on the roof by the door when I tilt my head. Pass. Tucson front seats very comfortable. firm with just the right support in the right places. Driver's seat power in most trim. You get a power passenger seat WITH height adjustment in the limited. Rear seat is most comfortable than all the competition. Very interested in the Tucson. Blows away the rest in terms of comfort.

Sorry if I'm bursting anyone's bubble there, but the 2016 Tucson with 1.6t and 7sp actually has a ridiculously tall 1st gear, not short as it's claimed in the video. The official specification is for only 1:3.929 ratio. In case of AWD, the final drive is 3.579, yielding only 10.132 total ratio. This is significantly less than typical 1:13 to 1:15 found in most cars and CUVs (except those with ZF's 9sp and its clones). You'll have to search for a different explanation for the acceleration.
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
+Pete Zaitcev In FWD trim as we were testing first gear is effectively 19:1 while in the AWD model it is taller at 14:1. The Ecoboost 2.0L engine gets a 14:1 overall first gear ratio with either engine. I should have been specific in that we were testing the FWD model at that moment although I did say this was the FWD model earlier in the video.

Alex, I love your reviews! Is it possible to get an exhaust note 'sample' during each review to hear what it sounds like? A big turn off for me of 4 cylinders is the sound they make.

Your reviews are very helpful. I am very torn between this vehicle and the CX-5. Just not sure about Mazda's long term reliability as I heard the older suvs were not reliable. But I need to test drive one soon because every reviewer raves about the pleasure of driving the CX-5. But I do like the Hyundai's long warranty. What do you suggest? Thanks

+Nana Kwame it has alot of strange quarks....do a full test drive especially if your looking at the dual clutch....parallel park it in a pretty tight spot....that alone might change your mind about this Tuscon.....

I'm concerned about the dual clutch transmission and if there are problems with it. I'd really like to purchase the sport trim, but I don't like the idea of the computer switching the gears.

The base 2.0 model that I rented out last month reminded me to ask you to incorporate a head toss index for testing taller vehicles. I would say the excessive head toss over uneven pavement and the plasticky interior are the only negatives I found with that particular model.

Alex, you got some of the best auto reviews. I know you mention how much you like Mazda CX-5 handling in many SUVs in this size range. What about Tiguan? You mentioned you rate it high but that was in 2014/2015. What about now? I checked all SUVs below 30K and I felt Tiguan has the best interior quality but the style is not exciting. Second for me is Subaru Outback and CX-5. Hope you do a quick review on 2016 Tiguan as it now has Android auto and the models are greatly discounted by dealers.

The Tiguan handles well for sure but it is fairly expensive compared to the competition

HIDS are stronger than LEDs, right? why not give LED to all the trims and the Xenons to the limited.

Although Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Detection were mentioned, there was no mention that Rear Cross Traffic Alert is standard on the Sport and Limited models. This is an important safety feature and I won't buy a vehicle that doesn't have it, along with Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning. The two things Hyundai really needs to add, at least to the Limited, are Adaptive Cruise Control and a heated steering wheel. Add that and the Tucson Limited has it all. Except for Surround View. Surround View is really neat.

+AlaskaErik The limited has a heated steering wheel.
@AlaskaErik9 жыл бұрын
+scf685 There is no heated steering wheel available on the 2016 Tucson on any trim level. That is directly from the Hyundai web site.

+AlaskaErik it's a late available feature. I have a 16, it's shown as a feature in the owners manual. Reaching out to Hyundai it's coming soon; as cars did launch without the lighted front door handles.

I love the all new Kia Sportage GT line. Most people who see it in the showroom love it. On videos it looks completely different. Also the newer model drives much better than the outgoing model.
