Time to up date to the 2022 Taco TRD skid plate install. An Excellent presentation BTW. Some additional “tid bits” of information. It is important to make sure you are meeting the required torque specifications in order to make sure stress is equally distributed across frame members. A torque wrench is a required tool for work on your Taco or for that matter most vehicles and other equipment. 2 17mm Socket forward bolts (labeled B): Torque to 33 ft-lb (45 N.m) 2 17mm Socket middle bolts (labeled C): Torque to 33 ft-lb (45 N.m) 2 12mm Socket rear bolts (labeled D): Torque to 21 ft-lb (29 N.m) 4 5mm Hex bolts, oil drain, filter cover (labeled A): Torque to 18 ft-lb (25 N.m) I would also recommend using BLUE Loctite. Front jack point. It is integrated in the skid plate at an embossed area in the center between the 2 middle (C) bolts. This area has been reinforced to continue to use the factory front jack point. If you use an alternative 3rd party product MAKE SURE it has this feature. Warranty coverage for 3rd party vendors: Before using another manufactures skid plate or full carriage skid plate system, check with the company to make sure there are no Toyota warranty issues. All manufactures warranty information including exceptions, hold harmless clauses, and the possibility of voiding your Toyota warranty should be included in writing with the products installation documentation. If they provide their own “replacement” or repair guarantees remember many of these small companies only last for a few years before closing shop or being bought out. Don’t take their verbal or Web site statements as fact or legally binding and always verify information you received on social media. Note on this product installation guide, the reviewer is highly recommending a specific “single” alternate product when in fact other similar products from other companies are on the market and might function just as well or better. Remember ALL of the Taco 3rd party parts and accessories suppliers are your best buddies until something goes wrong. Taco KZbin channels review parts and accessories that are provided by manufacturers, in most part, for free in exchange for a review and evaluation. By law they are proving an item of intrinsic $$$ financial value for said review which they have to report on their business taxes. Money (the product) is changing hands for the review. Objectivity will always be compromised (at varying levels) in these cases. Simple human psychology.

Idk if i will put one on but I've found for heavy items my floor jack with my wife operating it works very well for many things. I put a piece of rubber on to protect if needed. I can do the balancing act while she raises it up.

since my Taco is all white, I opted with the way Rob went which was paint it black and keep the red letters. The back two holes that hold 2 smaller bolts, I was only able to get one of them in , I did it by myself and have a good sense of accomplishment. no joke . but fell good with the switch .

I used a floor jack to jack it up into place. I have also seen folks use bungee cords to help. 👍. And not that I think it matters but your supposed to torque the bolts. Large ones 33 pounds rear 2 small ones to 21 pounds. Some have stripped out the weld nuts by not torquing. FYI

So you're recommending the cbi since it's lighter? Is there any other concern like coverage or clearance you had in mind? I was considering the TRD skid since it has the oil filter access and is oem.

The reason I like cbi is yes because of that and there quality is overall great and if u end up wanting to down the line get the rear skids for the truck if u have the trd pro one like I have then get the cbi or other brand rear skids they won’t align 100 percent so might as well if u r thinking that route stick to one brand I know rci makes pretty good ones as well

I also recently learned that at least the CBI skid can accommodate some 2 or 3 inch diff drop kits with no issues as well whereas I've heard some guys needing to modify skid plates with a bulge that got caught on a rock and messed up the diff anyways. A quality aftermarket skid seems to have more considerations in mind than what Toyota has.
