I now have proof he had traction control switched on. I recently rented a 2016 V-6 Camaro with auto. and took it to the track. With TC off My best 60 ft was a 2.118 almost identical to this last run of the SS. By the way my best time in the V-6 was a 13.901 at 102.35 mph. With a DA of about 2600. Corrected to sea level with my app it translates to 13.47 at 105.7 which is right on the money as advertised. I was on a prepped track with little to no wheelspin on stock 18's not the wider 20's The new 8 speed doesnt seem to help much because they changed the rear to 2.77 whereas the 15 models had a 3..15 ratio, but gas mileage with that cylinder deactivation and 8th gear was UNBELIEVABLE in the 2016 V-6. I Got 37 MPG ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH and over 40 at 55 mph. Just think 13's and 40 mpg. Wow.

I do believe he had traction control in the on position because of the lag in low gear. also his 60 ft was slower on the second run yet he went almost 2 tenths faster and that is due to the traction control being inconsistent. Traction control off and some drag Radials, we are knocking high 11" at 114=116 MPH. His very slow reaction time means nothing to elapsed time.

+chesley jeter Wrong sir, everyone of GM's V8 engines have been smaller and lighter than the post mod switchover. Ford decided to swap over to OHC designs, GM stayed with OHV, they both bring something good to the table. With a DOHC setup like you see on the coyote, you get a better breathing design which will help a smaller engine make more power. With an OHV design, you can have a physically smaller and lighter engine yet have more displacement. This leads to a smaller engine which can be placed further down in the chassis, they're lighter, and they produce more torque with a better powerband thanks to the extra displacement. Why does it not make sense to use a platform that's smaller, lighter, simpler in design, has way less moving parts, and is more efficient in these setups?

chesley jeter​ It has nothing to do with the ease of working on them, a DOHC V8 is not harder to work on then a OHV V8. To me all those parts mean more cost. Look at what you pay to do a cam swap on a Coyote, roughly 3 times the price. If you can work on an LS, you can work on a Coyote. Regarding needing more power, that really isn't true. The last gen Camaro was pretty equivalent to the Mustang in a straight line with the GT taking the lead after 100mph. They were pretty much a drivers race through the 1/4 if you compare a GT with PP to an SS 1LE. The new GT is slower than the last one and Motortrend already showed that the new GT was slower than the last gen 1LE when they did thier comparison. They easily could've used the old LS3 in the new SS and it still would've been extremely competitive if not faster thanks to it being a lighter car. The reason they went with the LT1 is because the LSx is done and the Ecotec 3 is current. They wanted to set the bar high and they did.

chesley jeter The LT1 is a fully forged engine as well, the LS3 was not. The LS3 was gopd if you wanted a n/a setup, you had to build them to put up big numbers with boost. The new LT1 has a forged bottom end though and they've already been proven by redline and LMR to take to boost very well. The LT1 is a better engine than the LS3 in my opinion, stronger, way better starting point, just a little heavier. There was also no "getting it's ass handed to it", they were very close in straight line performance with the GT only taking the edge on the big end. This was due to the old GT being some 250lbs lighter than the last gen Camaro, nothing more. Displacement isn't the only aspect of an engine, you can't compare equal displacements when one's a DOHC cam and one an OHV. Look at the DOHC 5.5L used in the Lemans Vettes, they can make upwards of 800hp without the restricters on them, GM could easily make a street version of one that made over 500hp. GM has already said that they wanted to hold of on going DOHC for as long as they can as it takes away from thier cars character. The vettes and Camaro's are know for thier torque and instant power, if they went DOHC they'd lose that feeling and character because they'd have to run a smaller displacement engine.

Anyone who has been to the strip knows that what a car is capable of and what it runs are completely different. Cars 5-7 MPH apart can easily be won by the slower car compared to what would happen in ideal circumstances. I am sure that there are going to be some interesting street/strip vids soon of races going both ways and BS called by both camps. Should be fun.

Jerame Phillips Yes, but Ford has a very hard task ahead, the current gen Camaro is almost like a base 911 in how it dries with the SS package, its that good, I was blown away after driving it, sure the Ford DOHC makes for a better revving engine but the 6.2OHV of Maro is a whole lot torquier and torque is what Ford needs badly, so its said that Fords next 2020 Mustang GT will probably have a 4.0 turbo v8, to rival GM 6.2s, till then although the current GT is good its far behind Camaro, cuz camaro has become that much better

This just further verifies the dyno's, showing the typical automatic drive train losses is generally 15-20 hp on GM autos. I've ran a new one with my tune only 13' 5.0-and he could not pull on me. These new SS are not under 3700 lbs. the magazine es tested and weighed them with a few gallons in the tank and no spare, that verifies by a few friends at the mags.

+Jerame Phillips I have a 2015 ZL1 and I've beat a few GT500's at the strip, I've gotten my ZL1 down to run at least 12.1 or better every run, most GT500's are hitting 12.1-12.4, never seen a 11.4 out of the car. Great car but I have yet to lose to one, maybe bad drivers at the track? If I had 650 LT4 and 300 pounds less I would destroy the GT500..

+Hassy Ali Drag racing manuals especially comes down to drivers. A gt500 is harder to hook but when it does consistently not loosing to zl1. Both great cars. When ZL1 gets lt4 no doubt beating 14 gt500 but only speculation as to both new zl1 and gt500. Can almost bet Ford is going 700hp or better. Will be exciting to see great cars these days.

Didn't they Camaro from those era's only weigh roughly 3,000 lbs where as the newer vehicle is closer to about 3,900 if I'm not mistaken. Don't forget the cars in those days have barely had any type of emissions regulations and still are over a second faster than what a stock 69' Camaro would've ran. We also get ridiculously better fuel economy, handling/stability and better safety ratings.

That's only 2 passes at 12.5 on factory tires. The driver gets it down right, I'll bet he can get 12.3 on those tires. You'll see!! I ran 12.7 in my 2002 Camaro on street tires until I got used to it, then It was 12.5, then a few more 12.5s. Then I nailed 12.1. All with practice. Just had to get used to the extra power was all.

Mustang better get another refresh to keep up with the new Camaro. The Camaro got 200lbs lighter while the Mustang finally got an independent rear and added 200lbs! Good luck Stang. The engineering that went into the Camaro to make it lighter is leaps above the Ford. Mustang's always been a poorboys' Camaro anyhow. I drove both before buying and could immediately feel how refined and better handling the Camaro was.
