The GT350 is the only Mustang with the flat plane crank, correct? For the guy's who know, how's the reliability of the flat plane crank? They sure sound sweet AF.

@@slickrock1371 Seeing that the engine is special, a lot of people have problems with blown engines, likely because they don't pay attention to oil temp or oil pressure. If you take good car of the engine, you'll be just fine.

After seeing what Ford Performance did with this car...I had to have one. So I bought one and I’m loving every minute of it. Im not a ford or a Chevy guy, I’m really more of a Porsche guy. This car represents a milestone in American sports car manufacturing. I’m not sure I have the cash for a complete carbon conversion, but I know it would make it even better. The car is special...it’s a gem.

AlexCoronaPhoto you Can't compare the 2. The GT has always been a Ferrari beating race car. The mustang was an every man's fast car. one is expected to be expensive and the other expected to be cheap. Opposites in many senses made under the same badge.

Yeah, it would be pretty awesome. Weight is definitely the enemy of performance. My question is if Ford can make an aluminum F150 why wont they make an aluminum Mustang?
@DougHanchard
@DougHanchard 7 жыл бұрын
Jeff K Probably because the next GT will be made with both Carbon fiber parts and an aluminum chassis. Development costs will not be cheap and be in the billions because the assembly line will require a complete overhaul to accommodate it. Mass production aluminum welding is just beginning and Ford is a leader in this area in the U.S. Europeans have been doing it for 15+ years. It's expensive!
@tomhiggins4816
@tomhiggins4816 7 жыл бұрын
I guess the onus is on every car company to make something faster than what has come before it, horsepower without any hybrid technology has hit the roof of what it is capable of for production cars at the moment before F1 ignition technology trickles down, only way were going to see a faster next gen Mustang is through weight reduction as you said
@ChrisB_517
@ChrisB_517 7 жыл бұрын
Lower on the totem pole for fleet CAFE standards, would be my guess. F150 is their workhorse. So you update the techniques on one line, and seeing how repair, paint, and performance issues turn out over a few years, then you take it to other models.
@DougHanchard
@DougHanchard 7 жыл бұрын
C Brooks Under the current President, CAFE standards are sadly, to be removed. Ford is not building Aluminum chassis yet, only truck body parts. But you are correct, they will learn best in class manufacturing techniques. Carbon fiber is the future for monocoque bodies if weight reduction is the goal. Large cargo trailer chassis made from carbon fiber with full structural engineering is likely, reducing its weight by half.

I was wondering where I heard that sound before, then it came back to me, from the movie Bullitt, in the classic Charger/Mustang chase. ( one of my favorite Steve McQueen movies)

About 15 years about there was a rumor that GM was going to build a concept Escalade out of CF. I don't think they ever did. If they did it never went public. Probably too expensive at the time. Now I think it would me manageable.

I love mustang. My mom had a 68. But I've never had one. I had a 87 bird v6 n miss it. Ppl kept telling me to put a v8 or whatever but I wanted to keep it original. Bad times had to sell but maybe I'll own another bird or mustang. Have A Blessed Day

Fascinating insight to the carbon fiber process and how it differs based on material and application. As the price continues to drop, I look forward to being able to one day afford a car that incorporates a lot of carbon fiber into its construction. In my fantasy world this would be the Shelby Cobra GT350 based on watching this video.

Normally I not crazy about the look of carbon fiber, but I like it on this car. Maybe because it's a cohesive look front to back.

It wasn't mentioned whether or not the doors were carbon fiber as well. Having done some fiber glass work, I would think they would be the most difficult to produce. Perhaps they just do door skins? All pretty cool, regardless of the price tag. I need to get a CF body for my S10 Blazer and then an aluminum frame, to really lighten it up. Great daily driver! lol
