I have 450 dirt bikes and 450 quads, Yamaha Suzuki and Honda are sitting in my garage. yet, I see myself having the most fun on my 05 trx250ex, such a simple, extremely reliable, powerful little 4 wheeler. I love it, its just so cute how can you not love it. its true what this guy said, these 250s are always good to have around no matter how fast your ride may be, you can always hop on this thing and still have a blast

I have a 2002 250ex and I love it so much! I'm 19, 5' 10" 190lbs and I just can't get enough of it! so much fun in the trails and when you want to go fast, this will do it! overall great quad and very reliable! I hope honda keeps it the way it is for the future 250exs'! simple, fast and fun! period!

This is a solid quad. I had a 2002 or 2003 250EX back in the day. VERY reliable engine, it can run forever. I ran mine dry out of oil as a kid cause I was an idiot...engine didn't lock up. Just added more oil, and it started right back up for many more years of enjoyment. Awesome quad! (Not something to buy if you want a fast quad). Anyone can ride it. Very fun for the family. Highly recommended for younger kids / women / whole family quad. This thing is SOLID & RELIABLE! Probably tops out around 45 - 50 MPH. Great all around bike for the trails & backyard fun. My old one responded great to intake, full exhaust, and jet.

I started riding quads when I was 2 years old. I got my first quad with a clutch at age 9, it was a 2003 Honda 300ex bored over to a 360cc. After riding that for a while, I moved up to a 2013 Honda TRX400X, at about the age of 11. I instantly fell in love with it. After 2 more years, (beginning of 2016) I traded it for 2 KX250F's. One was a 2005, and the other was a 2008. I loved those bikes for the power output and handling. Then, I sold those bikes in about 3 months, and bought a 2011 Yamaha YFZ450R, and I rode it every single day, in the trails, local track everywhere. Eventually it blew up, I had it from November 2016 to about February 2017. I sold it and bought a 2008 Can-Am DS450 MX model. It had too much power for my liking, because the former owner had about $19,000 in the bike in total. I bought that quad for $3,000. I traded it for a bone stock 2004 Honda TRX450R. I currently have that quad and I'm 13 years old. And no, I'm not bragging about my age. I just started riding earlier. I'm just giving my personal opinion on all my toys. If you want to check out my TRX, my instagram is payto_tayto. I have multiple parts coming in, and from it being stock, I have about $1,200 in it already. Thanks for reading!

@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand 5 жыл бұрын
At your size, with almost any level of experience we would probably encourage you to go for something a bit bigger. Since price seems to be a factor we would assume you will be looking to buy a used machine. If you can, try and budget for a good used Raptor 700. 400cc class machines like the Honda 400EX, 400x, or the Suzuki Z400 would also be good options although they are airgonomics lie a little smaller. Even a Yamaha Warrior might not be a bad machine for you although the ergonomics are pretty dated. We believe the Raptor 350 oh, an updated version of the Warrior, had a slightly better handling and airgonomics. You may be able to find one of these Yamaha 350s at an even better price. The Honda 250EX or modern 250X is a cool little machine. We just don't see it keeping you happy long enough. If you have any other questions please feel free to hit us back. Hope this helps.

Look into the Raptor 700 if you want to buy something new or used. If you're looking at used machines consider the 400EX, TRX450R, Suzuki Z400, those would be some of our top picks. This machine would be a bit on the small side for someone your size.

Great video! I just found one of these for sale and I'm researching it for my son. My son is currently on a Polaris Outlaw 90 and this would be quite the upgrade for him. The one I'm looking at is a 2007. I concerned though, that this might be too big of a jump for him as it's marketed for 16+. He just turned 12 and has about two years experience on ATVs. We primarily do trail riding and he's not much of a daredevil....yet at least. Here's my question...In part of this video you mentioned the seat is a bit hard and may not be great for long rides. Can you elaborate on this a bit for me? I'd also like to hear any thoughts on a 12 year old riding this. Thanks!
@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand 5 жыл бұрын
Since most of the machines that we review are loaned To Us by the manufacturers, we cannot recommend an ATV for a rider younger than its minimum recommended age. That being said, I can tell you that one of our staff members 5 ft tall 100-pound girlfriends rode this machine a number of times and found its eyes to be quite comfortable and it was a good fit. At 6 feet tall I find this machine to be a little small but not so small that it is uncomfortable. Some respectable racing series allow Racers under the age of 16 to race ATVs in the 250 to 400cc range depending upon age. Your local Honda dealer cannot sell you the mild-mannered 250X for your 12 year old however, most of them will happily sell you a 250cc 4-stroke Motocross dirt bike with twice the horsepower. For an appropriately-sized beginner or Rider with minimal experience the 250X is easy to learn and improve on. As an adult who gets to ride lots of different ATV models this seat is comparably firm four-day-long long trail rides. It absolutely never made any of our staff not want to ride it and as a teenager I would have ripped this thing all day long With no real complaints regarding the seat. Some ladies and older adults might find it to be a bit stiff. While I cannot recommend this ATV for a 12 year old if you have any other specific questions about the machine and its performance I would be happy to answer them for you.

@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand 8 жыл бұрын
HI NIck, If you want to race motocross, a sport quad is the only way to go. While most of the machines you would want are recommended for riders 16 and up, some racing organizations allow riders 13 or 14 and up to race some smaller displacement full size machines. Look gnccracing.com and atvmotoross.com and look at the class rules. Seeing what machines are legal to race will make you decision a lot easier.

@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand 5 жыл бұрын
We have had the same problem with our machine after leaving it sitting for awhile. Newark gas these days is crap. If you are going to let your machine set for more than a couple of months you would do well to either drain the fuel or at a fuel stabilizer. There is probably some grit in your carburetor from corrosion or you may simply have a piece of dirt stuck in one of the Jets. If you know how to take the carburetor apart and clean it that would probably solve the problem. If not it's a job you're dealer should be able to do in an hour or two. That would be our first guests.

Hello need some advice from you atv experts my fiancee wants a honda 450r trx for Christmas however i found a trx 250x whats yal opinion is there a big difference?
@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand 5 жыл бұрын
Wow, your fiance is lucky! There is a huge difference between a TRX450R and a TRX250X. To start, the 450 has more than double the horsepower. Its chassis is longer and wider. The 450 also has significantly better suspension. The 250 is a great learning machine for somewhat younger, smaller, beginner level Riders or those who are simply more interested in having some fun and not beating their friends in a drag race. A 450 has the ability to be turned into a serious race machine for just about any type of racing. Again, the 250 is more about just having fun. You can have a blast on a 250. Especially with a couple of them. However, it won't come close to a 450R. That being said, you can probably find a good used 450R for less than the price of buying a new 250. We would suggest finding a 450R for your fiance and a 250X or 400ex for yourself. We hope this helps. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Fun machines for any age group...Yeah I have had the fastest quads made as well as bikes, but my son and I would have a blast on a pair of these...For tight trail riding its all we really need and save a ton of money....I would simply fine tune the carb settings for best running and even leave the stock pipe on there so no repacking slip ons...smooth out the header pipe welds for even more power...I would spend any extra money on some aftermarket suspension and we could ride for fun for years without breaking the bank.....may be a reality very soon...We already have a SXS, and I am selling my Suzuki Boulevard S83 this week. i've seen matching pairs in great shape in the 3-3500 range....I miss our old Ozark and these are faster yet....No it will never be my old ATC250r or my Fourtrax 250r,,but at my age now,,,50,,and my teenage son we would just ride for fun...even put a 1500lb warn winch on the front of both of them as well as handguards for cold weather riding and brushy trail riding...great little quads.

would this be a good starter ATV for my wife? she is only 5ft so she finds bigger ATVs like polaris 570 and even the 450 too intimidating for the size height wise
@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand 4 жыл бұрын
My wife is about the same height as yours. She rode this machine a bit while we had it in for testing. The size of this machine will fit her very well. With the auto and manual clutch setup it's virtually stall proof like a CVT equipped machine. It will require her to move around a bit more when trails get Gnarly because of its smaller dimensions but it is extremely light and easy to maneuver. If you are going to upgrade anything on the machine for her we would consider an entry level set of aftermarket shocks. They're not mandatory but she will appreciate them on Long rides. Hope this answers your question if you have any others please that is back.

Yes, you're definitely big for this machine. Someone your size should probably be looking at at least a 400cc machine. If you want to get into racing, you will be looking at a 450cc machine you could get a new yfz450r, or look for a good deal on a used TRX450R. Either one is pretty fast but if you take your time and you're careful you could grow into either one. If you're looking to play more than race, you might have a look at the Yamaha Raptor 700. While the displacement is larger it's actually easier to ride than most for 450s. If you have anymore questions on any specific machines please feel free to ask. We love seeing new people get into the sport.

+ATVonDemand okay so I stand corrected. I think what I'm probably a little annoyed with more than anything is the cc size of the machines and the ages for them. a 14-15 year old even if he or she is a new rider probably doesn't fit on a 90 cc unless maybe of course he or she is a "little" person. I would like to see a more competitive 250 out of the box from Honda. Maybe make 2 different models?

As you can see we were getting a couple feet of air with it. We never broke or bent anything during our testing and we jumped it quite a few times. Now, don't expect to go to a motocross track and start busting some 60-foot doubles with there's no reason you can't take it out to the trail and have fun getting a little air with it. An inexpensive pair of aftermarket shocks would go a long ways.

Brendon Lewis unfortunately, not that many people. Honda wasn't selling enough of them and that's why they decided to discontinue it. with the price of sport ATVs nearing the $10,000 mark manufacturers are going to have to learn how to build less expensive sport ATVs or start updating them regularly like their dirt bikes. the 450R went away because nothing changed except the price in addition to the rise of UTV's. We wish they'd bring it back but bring it back significantly updated so everyone who has a current 450R has a reason to upgrade

There are so many old machines that they don't make anymore that we would like to do reviews on. The new machines that we test mostly come from the manufacturers. The older ones that we have reviewed we have had to purchase. I guess we're going to have to start a patreon account to start funding the purchase of discontinue to ATVs for review. Those were cool machines. You could have a lot of fun on one and they didn't cost much brand new. A local Polaris dealer that we work with told us a while back about remembering when he had a couple of warehouses full of Polaris Trail Blazers due to the sheer volume that sold. Cool machine for the money. Do you own one?

The 250EX was actually introduced in 1987.

The only thing this machine has in common with the 250X released in 1987 is the name. This machine is mechanically virtually identical to the 250EX which was released in the 90s. The 250X from 1987 had a few minor motor updates and became the 300EX which was discontinued a few years back.

what are their other competitions for the PRICE?
@ATVonDemand

Can-Am makes a DS250 for $4,199 and Kymco makes a Mongoose 270 for $3,899. Both are Y-14 models designed for riders 14 and up, meaning you will have to remove a couple of speed or power limiters to get full throttle out of them, but no big deal. If you aren't opposed to a utility style machine Kymco sells the MXU 270 for $3,899, Kawasaki sells their Brute Force 300 for $4,299, Honda's Recon sells for $4,049, and Arctic Cat 300 for $4,399. Hope this helps.

So do we. We would trade the new one for the old one. If we can ever get our hands on one in good condition we would certainly like the film one.

@@ATVonDemand - What would you say the reason for the lack of good sport ATVs is? The loss of riding areas over the years, the younger generation being more indoor video game playing cats, the price of the machines is too much for the average worker that would buy them, people are more into 4x4 utility quads now, or....?

@@e5m956 I'm a gamer but I ride a dual sport through the woods daily in the Florida sugar sand, gaming isn't really an issue like most people think, but more of a substitute for lack of a better activity, the main issue is pricing. These days manufacturers want to sell sport quads much higher than they used to, which kills off desire. When it costs over $7k for the average 450cc quad, it just makes other options more viable, such as with me, I ended up buying a 2022 250cc dual sport for half the price.
