Passing trains of pickups and subarus doing 15mph while they're spinning around in the slush - at 45mph - well, it doesn't really get more rewarding then that.

Come on, we all know this vehicle will be driven on the road by it's first and possibly second owners. The third will rip off the steps and bumpers and make it a "real" offroader. It will last to 350K miles with minimal maintenance. It is a great vehicle. There is something rewarding and pleasant about a V8. Traveling up the mountains of Idaho in snow and mud, is what this thing was designed for. No one can keep up, that, and it's so damned luxurious inside. It's a perfect family vehicle for the smallish active families. It went up goldmine no problem, that's what it was designed to do, not be Jeep. To many compromises to be Jeepish, and still be a Lexus. I'm biased for these rigs. If you have the money to buy these, you have the money to make them real offroaders with a few body deletes and addon's. These are weekend warrior vehicles, not everyday warrior offroaders. To me that's perfect, I have other toys when I want to get crazy in the rough stuff. Edit: They tow OK with the airbag springs too. Light loads less than 4500lbs, I would say.

Ok we get it, you don't like the truck. But if you don't like it then get the hell out of it. Lexus wasn't trying to compete with anyone.The GX has always been a mountain goat that marched to the beat of its own drum. So what the LR4 has a supercharged V6. Have fun servicing that freaking motor. And so what it doesn't have a 8 speed auto. Lexus pioneered the damn 8 speed auto with the LS, if they felt the need to put on in the GX they would have. 17 mpg isn't bad. Other trucks with much more tech struggle to achieve anything past 17 themselves. With an aluminum body and a turbo V6 the F-150 still struggle to get decent gas mileage, so why is it a problem here in the GX? Who has 60k to spend on a car then complains about gas? My 2008 TSX only gets about 17 mpgs when driven in the city. Do I complain? No, I love my car and so I feed it what it needs and keep on moving as I'm sure the owners of this rig does themselves. When you don't own a car or aren't forced to live with it you can only talk in numbers. The GX is a great truck. Hugely capable, very comfortable, spectacular material quality, and superior build quality over any SUV in its price range.

The head and leg room come up a bit short. Several years back I was interested in a 4Runner but my head was jammed into the roof and my legs were pretty cramped up. Headroom for a 4Runner is listed as 38.6". I was interested in getting a LX570 or GX460 but learned the headroom is listed at 38.3" and 38" respectively (surprisingly both less the 4Runner). @sseibonnevilleman8 жыл бұрын
Why would you want a v8 that makes the same power as most new v6s?
@canddmeyer8 жыл бұрын
The V8 used to be in the 4Runner before it became exclusive to Lexus. The power difference on paper looks minimal, but in the vehicle the power difference is much improved, and the V6 is barely adequate for a 4750lb empty 4Runner vehicle before adding passengers and cargo which will easily put it over 5000lbs. MPG difference is minimal for a much better engine. If you get the chance drive both and you'll see the difference the second you hit the accelerator.The V8 also has the full-time AWD Torsen limited slip center differential, something all 2003-2009 4WD 4Runners had with V8 models and available at the turn of a switch on V6 models. From 2010 on the Torsen system is only available on the 4Runner Limited models. Many of us leave it in AWD mode all the time, myself included, as traction is always there if needed. The mpg penalty for doing so is minimal as traction and safety outweigh the 2WD benefit. That's why I chose to not purchase the current generation 4Runner as Toyota took away many of the good things available on entry level 4Runners and gave them exclusively to Lexus. The V8 was available on base 4Runner models and highly desired, but no longer.
@jeepthing988 жыл бұрын
I agree. I basically had a 16 Trail edition ordered a few months ago and when it arrived and drove it I was so underwhelmed by the engine, I walked away. The 4.0 is underpowered for this much SUV and struggled to merge onto the freeway. Back in 2006, I bought a 4Runner with the 4.7 and it was torquey and smooth. Now I have a 16 Wrangler JKU.
@sseibonnevilleman8 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying the 4Runner doesn't need more power. The point is why hasn't Toyota designed a more powerful motor for one of their best selling vehicles. I feel its the same reason the Tacoma/4Runner went so long without a real redesign. Little competition and they are still selling what they are building. That's obviously my opinion and one of my biggest gripes with Toyota. Shoot Ford has a turbo 4 cylinder that makes more power than that V8 and probably close to the same torque. like I said, just my opinion. I love Tacomas and 4Runners BTW.

You said that "If you're not going off-road there are better vehicles to buy." Can you name a few? I'm in the market and have been looking at the 4Runner, new Pilot, CX-9, and now the 2017 Armada. Thoughts?

If you are in the market, can you say why we can not buy Prado in US CAN market ? Only lexus ?

Huh? Wait..what? Pick one: 2016 Pilot, 2017 Armada or 2016 4runner

Will Chu I've got the 2016 4Runner, get that or a pilot or a highlander. All three are great

4Runner all the way, best offroader of the bunch and excellent reliability.

Will Chu, in this price range and in the US market the land rover discovery offers more luxury, better off road capability/tech and they aren't as bad reliability wise as they once were.

The front bumper hangs too low to the ground. And a customizable bumper is out of reach. Just imagine trying to replace that monstrosity with a custom bumper, the entire front fascia would fall off.

I prefer a STICK to change 4x4 and other gears... and I DO NOT like the blooming computers in them-- don't need "info- tainment" do that crap AT HOME.. But i Love the GX's all of them -470 and 460... I'm looking around to get one- and modiffy it..
