2016 MINI Clubman: More Room For Your Life - XCAR

I have test driven all the recent Minis (except the convertible opentop). The Hardtop Minis are the ones for people who really enjoy extreme driving fun. I own a 2016 Cooper S 4 door. I did not go for the JCW 2 door since I needed some more practicality in my circumstances. My wife has the base Hardtop 2015. Both base and S engines are peppy for the Hardtop versions, they are both enjoyable to experience on a daily basis. I have also test-driven the new Clubman S (not the base). I love the upscale interior feel of the Clubman, it is really a very comfortable space to spend time in. And, people will like the increased rear seat space and luggage space in the back of the car for especially longer trips. However, due to the larger size and added weight for the Clubman compared to Hardtop versions, I did really feel the difference in driving dynamics. One can still enjoy going around corners in the bigger Clubman, it was still enjoyable. Yet, acceleration is not as peppy as the Hardtop due to added weight. However, the purpose of the Clubman is for going trips and vacation, and for that purpose, it works out brilliantly. It is smaller than other SUVs, so if one lives in condos with tight parking spaces, the Clubman can still fit easily. Yet, it provides more interior space and luxury than some other compact SUVs which I have test driven in recent years, and it still gives the driver more satisfaction in driving experience compared to other compact wagons and SUVs. I love how Mini strategy goes, the Clubman is a big step forward and is much better actually if it is compared to its first generation.

The John cooper works is the business 👍🏻 wasn't a big mini fan until I actually drove one. Including the clubman. Beautiful car to drive and packed with gadgets. Good honest review

Love the review. Mini has indeed grown up, and the Clubman show it. They need to add a 2.0Liter four to the lineup, to give both the Clubman and the Countryman much needed power, particularly in the JCW models. I'd consider buying one.

I love my first gen Clubman, but I'm outgrowing it. He's right this new Clubman is more; grown up! Either love it or hate it! Its still slowly growing on me, i'll have to see what the JCW looks like!

I saw this at the LA Auto Show just after Thanksgiving. Completely fell in love with it. Although, i WAS unimpressed by the engine numbers. For the price, which the lovely lady at the showroom said was about $36k, the engine should make around 250 horsepower AT LEAST. Not 189. Size wise, I'd say it is roughly the size of an Audi A3, if not slightly bigger.

this is only the fault of porsche. in 2003 or so with the cayenne they opened the door for comercialism. now Bentley makes suvs. maserati makes diesels. mini makes big cars. bmw makes a fwd minivan. Ferrari makes an estate (kind of... the ff) and mclaren and Lamborghini also announced suvs. nobody is incorultible...

Still not entirely sold on the current front styling though, I must admit, it looks a lot better on this and the 5 door hatch than on the two door. The latter just looks excruciatingly nose heavy.

What's wrong? Yes the back doesn't look 'Mini' but it looks Porsche like - very standout. I think everyone needs to see that Mini would get too repetitive - they need to make different size models. What's wrong with this?

When you spend 10 minutes trying to defend a car, maybe you're better off looking for something else. This is stepping in a whole different class. I have one question: what does this have over a Ford Focus or any of the other tens of cars in this range? The looks? Well you could say that about the normal Mini but this one looks like a dog. Oh look, we made a big Mini! Oh no, everybody is doing that since forever that's why it was called the fucking Mini in the first place...
