Before I even watch the video, I would like to state a couple things. The back seat in the Nissan Leaf is amazing. We did a 8 hour road trip in one and its nice to drive, and very comfortable. Also, it managed to turn an 8 hour trip into a 13 hour trip due to all the times we had to stop and charge.

That's exactly why I'm still against electric vehicles. If they can reduce a full charge time to 10 minutes at maximum, and find a way to make batteries that resist wearing down after multiple charges, I'm in.

@@tinystar3010 until EV car manufacturers develop their batteries to give a range equivalent to present day ICE cars, EV vehicles will definitely not be ideal for longer trips. However right now, a hybrid car is the best if you want the best range possible.

Mine turned a 3.5 hour road trip into a 7 hour one when we missed a fast charger on I-95 and had to spend an hour at a Level 2 charger in Delaware for just barely enough charge to limp to the next fast charger. Mine is now trapped forever in Pittsburgh because there are no fast chargers within its range once you leave the metro area. Still, it's a fantastic city car and we love it. Would happily buy it again.

Especially if you can charge at home with a solar roof, it becomes basically free of all runnin cost. If you buy a used cheap one you'll likely end up spending $100/mo for a four year old car with A/C including maintenance, depreciation and energy.

This. It's your boring errandmobile, an appliance that always works for the most mundane of tasks. If you don't live in California (lol $0.65/kWh) the cost to drive it is negligible, and for making short-ish trips in and around town it doesn't need to be fast or have all that much range. You could totally have one of these in your driveway next to a proper brodozer and there's nothing inherently incongruent about that - a different tool for a different purpose.

@gedavids84 3 жыл бұрын
@@emil.soderholm That's a language artist flare question that only @RegularCars can really answer. Technically you're right, it should be "a car", not "an car". I think they're trying to highly emphasize that it's a regular car by using the wrong article for the noun. It seems to have the effect of really drawing our attention to it, but I don't know, I'm not English major like I think they are. Anyway, I think you'd call that "artist license," I'm not sure what the equivalent would be in your native language. Hope that helps.

Flew into an airport that had several of these as courtesy cars. Perfect car for that since they don't want you driving cross-country in their vehicles. Point A to B back to A and that is it. I like mine. The slower you go the more range you'll have. It loves 45-55mph for best results. Tops out at 93mph. Look for a SL or SV trim level (more features and better heater...has both PTC heat for instant blast of hot and a Heat Pump to maintain the cabin temp). Look for the battery health on dash. Theres 12 bars on the right of the "fuel" guage. More bars = more range still left. Mine had 9 last year. Is a 13 SL 24kW. At 8 bars now. Can do a solid 50 miles at highway speeds or about 70 miles if I drive slower on back roads with a light foot.
@starfox6335
@starfox6335 3 жыл бұрын
Also I might add... Look for a 2013 or newer and join LEAF groups on facebook and ask lots of questions before you buy. We are happy to help. Its a hot market now. You still may find a sweetheart deal like I did but prices are rising. Carvana is offering top dollar to buy used LEAFs but they don't go by battery health just milage to assess the value. Buyer beware! The motor can go a million miles so dont worry about that part, just traction battery and suspension bits are known wear items. I have 101k miles on mine and it's not even needed brakes yet! Regen mode helps with slowing you down where the pads barely get any wear.

I never realized until now just how forward-thinking it was of them to put the charge socket on the front end. Because the future of on-the-go charging isn't going to be at dedicated stations like it was for gas, it's going to be in parking lots of establishments you'd normally be stopping at anyway when you're traveling, like restaurants and hotels, where the best place to put the chargers is along the short edge like that.
@tristessismen
@tristessismen 3 жыл бұрын
Except for weirdos like me who always backs into parking spaces. But I do think it makes much more sense to have the charge socket in the middle rather than to the side. When parking is tight you bump into the cable when squeezing by.

Langauge can involve, originally the plural of [computer] mouse was 'mouses' but we all just started saying 'mice'. The plural of octopus is properly 'octopodes' but you know what 'octopi' is fine. Should the plural of 'Mega Man' be 'Mega Mans' or 'Mega Men'?
@Toastmaster_5000
@Toastmaster_5000 3 жыл бұрын
@@wraithcadmus Actually, the plural of octopus is and always should have been octopuses - all other ones are technically wrong. The etymology is entirely Greek. If it was Roman, the plural would be octopi (Roman words ending in -us are singular, all words ending in -i are plural), and if it was Latin, it would be octopedes (think centipede). I never understood where octopodes came from haha. You are right about Mega Man though. And yes, I am a blast at parties.

Overall my leaf has been doing me mostly fine. I drive about 20k a year doing food delivery. it's sort of like driving a VW bug in a rally race. Completely unassuming, but gets me where I need to go faster than many cars while going the speed limit. Handling around corners is great, just wish it had a limited slip differential... 100 miles in a single day is about the limit of practicality for this car, which for me is about two full batteries where I live. At that point battery overheating sets in. The interior is Built To Last

What annoys me the most in this world of EVs is the owners, many think they're better for "saving the world", but guess what, they're not, the best an EV can do is reduce urban pollution, since it's to produce an EV releases twice as much CO2 as an ICE, maybe in the future this number will decrease, but still invariably it will always be greener not to have a car, a diesel bus is greener than a tesla.
