I have a 2017 titan xd 5.0 pro 4x and i was quoted around $250 for this job.I purchased the oem filters from a nissan dealership for around $85 bucks for both filters.I did my first change at 10,000 miles and my second at 20,000 miles(at 21,104miles). No way would i pay someone $250 dollars to do something i can that takes me about 30 minutes to do if that.Great video btw!!!

it's pretty nice that it has a secondary filter, it's something we have to install ourselves in AUS, most diesels only have 1 main filter. it's reasonably cheap to do though. cheers for the vid

As you’ve found out, that valve DOES NOT drain the filter housing. If left open, it’ll simply be gravity fed from the tank. It’s strictly to drain water that may have accumulated over time.
@JenksyGigi4 жыл бұрын
2 things; it is recommended to replace the stage 1 filter first (the one under the chassis), and also you didn't lubricate the inner O-rings of the stage 1 filter- very important

Great video and thanks for the effort. Few things though: 1. It's a 28mm socket and you should put one hand on top of the ratchet head to ensure socket is not "pulling off" when turning when changing engine bay filter. 2. You really should be using a torque wrench and torque to spec during installation. I would also encourage a paint marker to mark the filter housing and head location before and after service. Especially in the engine bay. Bottom side is a no brainier with the sending unit but still good practice. 3. You can use the same clean motor oil you use in your engine to lube the oring. Petroleum Jelly not required.
@jwh5255 жыл бұрын
Andy, do you know what the torque spec's are?

first time doing mine today. 2017 with 32K on it. Everything went smooth til I went to start it it. Primed iit a few times before starting it. Waited the 90 secs each time. Fuel pressure warning light never went away. Truck started right away and ran for a minute or so. While I was under it looking for leaks I could hear the lift pump getting loader almost like air was rushing thru it or something. Shut it off. Hasnt started since. Tow truck on the way right now. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. Changed my filters for the 1st time and including priming the pump took 30 minutes. Dealer wanted $125 labor and $100 for filters. $225 total. Nissan Filters off Amazon $ 89 and it came with oil filter I'll use at next oil change. Once again thanks. Have a Jesus filled day Greg in Michigan Ps .... Now that Nissan not going to make the Cummins turbo diesel will I be able to get parts 6 to 8 years from now? Nissan isn't sending mechanics to school for this engine anymore. Will an independent mechanic have the special Cummins equipment to read codes to fix it??? Too bad, love this truck. Driven Nissan titan trucks since 2004. This will be my last. Not what I wanted!!!

Hi Greg, Glad you found it useful. I really do not think changing the fuel filters every 10k is necessary, but to keep the warrantee in tacked I change them. Also, I just learned that Nissan took the XD Diesel off the production line for 2020, I'm disappointed. It has been a good truck and it fits in my garage unlike the 2500s and 250s.

This is the first diesel I've heard of that the batteries have to be disconnected to change a fuel filter..I live in Ireland were 70 percent of all cars buses and trucks are diesels ...and batteries on all of them do not have to be disconnected..
@MegaSling6 жыл бұрын
As someone else said, those filters where still very clean. I've got the 2017 XD and change my fuel filters every 20,000 miles and they are still just slightly dirtier than the ones you pulled out of your truck. As to the warranty issue, if I have a problem with the engine that required a warranty job I'd just change the filters out before taking it in if I had more than the required 10,000 miles on the filters. That cuts the argument off at the pass.

I get mine on Amazon from Conyers Nissan for 69.99 its a kit that includes P/N: 16403-EZ41A and 16403-EZ40A and the Oil filter is $6.40 15208-EZ40A. Job takes literally 10 mins for the fuel filters. The oil is 10 quarts w/ filter and takes a bit longer due to having to remove the lower skid pan. If you pay $250 or more for that service you should try it yourself. It's not that hard.

@julioe.djadventures42492 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that. I never experience that anomaly. Make sure all is adequately tight, as any air will cause problems. It could also mean your fuel pump is acting up, which would be coincidentally with changing out the fuel filters. I had 131,000 miles on my Titan XD, I changed the fuel filter every 10K miles or less, never had that issue. Unfortunately it was totaled in a serious car accident with my Travel Trailer in tow. I am sad to lose it.

Usually means Diesel exhaust filter full. most diesels reduce power to avoid damage. Sometimes the engine will do a parked regen to clean filter, or driving at high speeds to heat exhaust up to burn soot.

I’ve seen people do the job without disconnecting the batteries. It’s in the filter literature to disconnect the batteries, I decided to follow that. it certainly can’t be worse than leaving them connected. Hope that helps you :)

Diesel is a lubricant. Petroleum jelly is pointless on a diesel vehicle.

Also those filters did not need replacement. They were fairly clean which means your fuel system is in good shape.
@Knight0vvl5 жыл бұрын
The jelly is not for anything other than to prevent you from destroying the o rings on install which happens often, also diesel will strip and ruin some types of rubber so using fuel to lubricate the O-Rings isn’t really recommended.
