2016 Ram 1500 5.7 liter P0456 Evap Leak / Gas Cap Error

I’m in no way a mechanic, but I created this video to show people how easy it is to swap the purge calve under the hood of a 2016 Ram 1500 5.7 liter. This should also apply to 2014 and 2015 models. The videos I’ve watched are good, but audio or lighting can be an issue. This was filmed with my iPhone, so I tried to minimize movement the best I could, and also tried my best with audio and lighting.
The point of the video is to empower someone with the confidence to work on your vehicle yourself if / when possible. These evap leaks are tricky - especially the small ones - but there is still a finite number of possibilities. Start with the easy stuff and go from there.
I don’t have any links to share or things to sell here, I’m simply trying to help.
Leave your comments with your thoughts or suggestions you might have to help me finally identify the issue so I can fix it! This issue puts fumes into the atmosphere, into mine and my kid’s brains, and lowers my fuel mileage by about 2 MPG!!! Not good 😬

Swapping my Vapor Leak Detection Pump it's located on the underside of the truck on the gas tank. Check out a few videos on the change. 40$ Part Will update if it fixes my issue good luck!

Hey brandon I'm having the same issue.. Quick story I got a scan from auto zone that suggested changing the purge valve. I know they are not always direct but what are the chances that it is actually the detection pump?

Could someone tell me whats the difference between the Esim and leak detection pump? Are they the same?

You should have ran power to it to see if it clicks. You should blow through it with power run to it and without it.

Are you referring to the purge valve? I actually ended up swapping it anyway with the Napa part and the issue persists. I have no idea where to look but another smoke test is probably the answer. Do you happen to know how difficult it is to swap the gas tank fill pipe? I don’t know what it’s called but it could be the issue

Or are you saying that the issue could be power? How do I do that exactly?

I’m saying that you need to remove the vent valve and test it. You need apply a ground and power to see if it clicks and then you need to blow through it while you apply power to the valve. There are plenty of videos on how to test the vent valve and the purge valve.

@@local80g ok I’ll try that. I just think given where my truck got hit, it is most likely in the back where the majority of the evap system is, but it’s worth testing. Thanks.

No not yet. Another viewer suggested testing to see if the purge valve opens and the solenoid. I still need to do this.
