Guys, here is a quick video for upgrading your 2016 Silverado/Sierra to a Heated Steering Wheel. Video won't go into the actual swap. This video will show you how to use my Harness to get the Heated portion of the wheel hot.

You saved my mod. I'm one of the lucky few that has a 2018 Sierra SLT and I bought the 2018 Clock spring only to find out that my truck had the powered pigtail, but it was a 2014 -2016 style instead. I could see the plugs were different but I kept trying to force the two ends together for some time. I sent Phil an email and he knew right away and made me an adapter harness. 2014-2016 is more of a square connector like the one in this video and the 17-18 is more oval with a weatherpack gasket inside the connector. I think he said the clock springs are interchangeable so just order the one that matches your plug.

Gotta love the GM inconsistencies :) Glad I was able to figure out a solution for ya! The clocks springs are interchangeable. So IF you wanted to use the plug in your truck, you would just need a 14-17 clock spring of your 2018 truck :) Thanks for the feedback! #MODon.

UPDATE….. Just got done doing my heated steering wheel swap. If anyone wants the part #’s,,,, First though, PHIL, the wiring harness worked AWESOME, your video showed every step. Thank you very much!!! I have a 2017 Chev 2500HD Diesel LT. Steering wheel # Black GM #8448368…. Clock spring GM# 23381966. and the wiring harness to power the Heated button, got right here from Phil, see his notes… The swap went flawlessly, other than forgot to UNPLUG the clock spring BEFORE I popped the steering wheel off. Thank god I had to replace it anyway. Other than that.. Great.. AND… it works and new parts left over!! Other than the steering wheel. :) Thanks again Phil… Great work!!

Hi Phil... I purchased a Chevy Silverado 1500 steering wheel with a heat button, but I found I did not have the clock spring or the connector harness/wire underneath the dashboard. I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado Custom, and I purchased a connector, some time ago, from you to make the steering wheel button's work for the radio controls. It worked just fine. I never did purchase a clock spring or wire/harness to connect the steering wheel for heating because I just wanted to make sure I purchase the right items to activate the heating on the steering wheel. May I intrude on you to direct me towards the type of Clock Spring and wire/harness to get the heating mechanism working? I'd appreciate your assistance.

I already have a sliding window on mine. I have taken the complete interior apart on my truck and can tell you that the motor for the sliding window sits behind the rear passenger seat. :) It doesn't look terrible to add this. Just need to add all the components and wiring.

How did this swap go? Most seem to be LT package trucks. I have a custom with just cruise buttons. Want a leather wrapped wheel and figured might as well get heat option.

Hey I've been trying to do so much research but I just keep getting lost on all the forms and people saying different things with the different years and the different part numbers and I'm just like ready to pull my hair out.. I was hoping you could maybe help point me in the right direction. I have a 2019 Chevy 1500. I have gotten multiple part numbers for the clock spring and I'm not sure which steering wheel I need but it looks just like yours did you have a part number for the clock spring or any wiring you need or the steering wheel you got? First of all thanks for your videos. I was looking for a heated steering wheel and sense you seem to know just about *everything* for these trucks lol, I was wondering if you knew if the steering columns are the same on all these vehicles? In other words will a heated steering wheel from a Yukon, Suburban, Denali, Chevy 3500 etc all fit a GMC Sierra 1500?? And if so, will I run into problems with the clock spring? Any help would be appreciated 👍

I am actually working on this myself on my truck. Not that I need it, but I've gotten a lot of requests for this. There are 2-3 modules needed for this, plus programming and wiring....Stay tuned for that.

Off topic, my heated seats doesn't come on when I remote start the truck, they work other wise and it is selecting ON in the settings menu, any ideas on that? 2015 Sierra SLE All Terrain. Thx.

When you remote start, it should warm up slightly based on outside temps. You won't see the light come on, in the buttons. It is a very light heat with remote start.

Phil, I ordered the new wheel and clock spring from the GM site and installed it tonight. I’m almost there, but the heat connector from my new clock spring doesn’t fit into the connector under the dash. Doesn’t appear close. I have a 2018 LT. i was going to just splice the wires together, but I also popped the fuse block out first, and it doesn’t appear that I have the wire running to it. I’d buy the wiring from you, but I’m guessing it has the same connector that’s under my dash that won’t fit. Any thoughts on this? For now I’m going to try and source the pins on the fuse block connector and just splice it together.

Thank you Phil for a great Video. However, I have a question; first, is there a harness to heat the steering wheel for a 2021 Chevy Silverado Custom 1500? I just recently upgraded my original steering wheel to a leather steering with cruise and radio controls. I know I need to replace the Clock-Spring but is there a harness that continues from clock-spring to a connector under the dashboard (which I don't have) and continue towards the fuse box as you identify in the video? I am still undergoing exploration of the different options available for retrofit. It's been a very slow and agonizing process and global supply constraints are one of the reasons for slow development.

So, now, I have cruise, heat and audio controls on the steering wheel. I'm still looking for a clock spring that will allow for cruise and heat. I think I can get the audio to work soon. Does the heated wheel turn on with the remote start if you use your own wiring, or does it have to run through the BCM to automatically turn on with the remote start? Does it shut off on its own after it has been on for some time, like it does on trucks that come equipped with the option? Thank you.

Brady Wright - Not at all. Just remember to disconnect your battery and wait like 10-15 mins before starting.

2016 Sierra WT. I've verified that I do have the fuse you mentioned but the female plug is not installed. Would your harness still work in a WT edition truck?

Kyle Stanford - Yes. You most like have the wiring in place too, coming from the fuse panel. It likely stops after the first connector above the BCM. So, if the violet wire w/yellow stripe is there, you’ll have to remove it and omit it. Then install mine.

I cant seem to find any information about swapping but I'm sure they run through the BCM for the auto-up feature. I guess I'll have to send my BCM to WAMS to be programmed for them correct? Hey I am doing this upgrade - I don't understand; I have the wire connector under the dash already and the fuse on the panel. If thats not "Hot", where do those wires go that are in the connector existing? Do I need to remove that in order to add a new connector? I have a 2018 Sierra

The only concern I have is that my connector under the dash is oval shaped so not sure what the clockspring connector looks like. The clock spring I bought is part # 23381966

Many on GM-Trucks.com have done this to 2014 - 2018. Some have the actual mate plug, and some don't. Some that have the plug are also reporting that it may or may not be hot. So depending on the conditions, the upgrade is very possible.
