VERY well done! Wish i had snap ring pliers! LOL. I found removing that to be the hardest part. It fought me for 20 minutes! The 2nd hardest part was removing the bottom shroud cover. Didn't realize the tile lever handle came off like that! Nicely done! I think this video will really help those on the GM-Trucks forum be more comfortable with this upgrade. Just a side note: There are some trucks out there with the 2-pin mate connector down below to plug into, but GM didn't continue that run into the fuse panel. So while present in some, it may not be hot. Great details on this!

The clock spring is basically a swivel for your wires going into your steering wheel. It makes it so that your air bag and steering wheel controls work without any issues turning and bending them every time you drive. The new clock spring has another pair of wires to power the heating element.

Why do you have to replace the clock spring? Is it different than the one from the non heated steering wheel?
@kevefox6 жыл бұрын

There are different clock springs and wheels depending on which year/model you have. What do you have?
When you remote start your truck does the heat come on the steering wheel on it's own? Or do you have to turn on after you get in the truck?
@kevefox5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it does not. The defrost and everything else will pop on to whatever it was set to but the seats and wheel need to be turned on with the key.
@BackquarterSnowcruiser5 жыл бұрын
Heated seats can be set to turn on with remote start; you’ll find the option in your settings.

@@kevefox Sorry for the delayed response. I did a sleeper build in the bed and did a complete upholstery upgrade from cloth to a heavy duty cowhide grain leather. Which was not my idea of a good time. My truck is a 2015 Sierra 2500HD. Black interior. No collision avoidance that I know of. I did buy the wheel and clock spring which came in a couple days ago and plan to install soon when I rewatched the video and you said u had the 3500. So hoping the 2500 has all the same stuff. Feel free to reach out to me at pest_fest@hotmail.com. Thanks.

Hey, do you know if all LT Silverados and Sierras have the heated wheel plug already as a part of the wiring harness? I'm in the market for a new truck and want a heated wheel, but if i can get away with an LT/ SLE and install one, i'd rather do that and save a few thousand dollars

James Ryan yes, most do, however some don’t. Good news though, Phil Gamboa on KZbin and GM-Trucks.com forum makes factory harnesses and adapter plugs, etc for just about everything you can think of as far as upgrading your truck’s trim level. thanks. i appreciate it. yeah, i saw a video of his about swapping gauge clusters for a denali one. i read something on the forums about having the bcm programmed for the heated wheel though. I guess i'll have to message him and pick his brain before i make my purchase. the difference in price between the LT/SLE & LTZ/SLT is like 6k. and both are optioned the same minus the heated wheel and cooled seats. I'll save the 6k and just do this then

James Ryan No problem, and absolutely zero BCM programming for the heated wheel upgrade. Also he has just successfully added cooled seats to his truck. If you start off with heated seats it’s much easier to accomplish. Just got a figure in the price point to pick up those seats used.

They’re not fun, at least they’re visible. Some GMs have a little extra rubber there and it’s all by feel. The wheel was something like $250 and the wheel powers off with the ignition.
