I am a current owner of this exact color and trim level. I've had mine for a little over a month now and clocked 1300 miles on it and not a single one has been regretful. The space in the back seat and the power plant, one would assume that getting a mid-size truck there will be sacrifices. Yes the GM twins have a better power plant and arguably a better back seat but after having driven both of them before the Tacoma I was left unsatisfied. The interior of the Colorado was terrible, the premium seats in their Z71 was a joke and the overall look of the interior was bad in my opinion. The instrument cluster looked like it was something from ten years ago or older. The Canyon wasn't much different save the seats as they were truly exceptional and possibly better over my Tacoma's Softtex seats but I still give the Softtex more points since I have sat in them for a month now. Simple things like power seats is irrelevant to me as I am the only one that drives the truck, my wife has her own vehicle but it is a valid argument of why are they not there? The interior noise level of the Canyon and Tacoma are about equal with maybe the edge going to the Canyon but it's still a truly exceptionally quiet ride. The electronics and overall interior look go to the Tacoma. I like technology in my vehicle and I like it to look good and the GM twins just don't cut it for me. If that kind of stuff doesn't matter to you, then this point is moot. If you wanted something more out of this truck and weren't satisfied with the other mid-size trucks in the lineup you probably need or want a full-size. This wasn't economical nor useful for me as one, I don't need the power of a full size truck and two I need it to fit in my garage. I'd rather not park the truck in my shed where I keep my tractor and everything else. If you want power, size, comfort, and larger capabilities then you need to be looking elsewhere as none of the trucks in the lineup will provide you this. Even the diesel in the GM twins is going to be a let down for you, trust me, drove that one too. Yes it has fantastic torque and economy but it just doesn't do what a big V8 can handle but that is to be expected. For the newer group buying trucks, the Tacoma will probably appeal to you. If you are used to rugged looks both on the outside and inside as well as the basics, the Tacoma might not be for you, even in base model form. Ultimately you have to make a decision on what you want to sacrifice between the trucks. My major gripes and why I went with the Tacoma are as follows: 1. Push start on the Tacoma, my corvette, VW, and Challenger had push start. I don't want to go without now. It's a nice feature and keeping the keys in the pocket is nice. 2. The instrument cluster and entertainment system is better on the Tacoma in my opinion. 3. The shift knob and plate doesn't look like it was something out of the 90s. 4. Seat comfortability. I'm a disabled veteran with a bad back and neck and while the Canyon felt ok, the Tacoma felt better. Just forget the Colorado in this area all together 5. Reliability/Resale of Toyota is renown. GM twins are new to the block after a hiatus. The engine in the Tacoma is not new as it was brought over from the Lexus line and "just works".

Test drove the Tacoma and Colorado this weekend and the Tacoma just felt better overall. Maybe I'm biased because I have an 02 Tacoma but it felt more smooth, nicer interior, and I personally like the seating position. I also like this model with the upgraded sound system, moonroof (not available on the Colorado in any trim), 18 inch wheels, tonneau cover, and proven reliability in past models. The engine is a question mark but it's not new as its been around in other vehicles for a long time. I personally like the overall exterior look of the Tacoma more too. Looks tougher to me. The ridgeline just isn't a truck to me. The Colorado has a horrible looking instrument cluster. Nice Bose system though. No standard bedliner on any trim. Only 4 tie down rings. This Tacoma has those sliding rings standard, another big thing if you're getting a pickup. Overall, they'll be loved by their owners. To each his own. I'll likely go with the taco.

Excellent review, you have a good demeanor for video which is a pleasantly refreshing. I think that issue with the rear seats is a deal breaker for me as I would put my tools there sometimes, so even though the Tacoma is the clear off-road winner, probably going for the Colorado. Keep up the good work and the subs will follow.

the jbl stereo takes space behind the rear seat there is normally storage behind the seat also the hard cover on the back of the seat is better than carpet like on the Colorado
@kevindust27128 жыл бұрын
+jctai100 The GM twins have no storage behind the rear seat whatsoever, skip the JBL option on the Taco and it has more rear storage than a Canyon or Calorado.

I always use my 09' Tacoma back seat for work tool storage and rarely for passengers so I tossed my rear seat headrests in the coat closet.

+jctai100 going for something that will lose its value and likely fall apart, over something that will retain its value better than any other vehicle on the market. all because of the back seats? SMART

The headrests from the back seats go in those holes from the lower portion of the seat that you folded first. It's in the owner's manual.

I have a 2018 white Tacoma Limited and I love it. It has great resale value and is pretty powerful. For proof it can tow my Acura MDX. I know it doesn’t have power seats, but I can live without it. I haven’t gone off road with the Limited which I’m missing out with the off-road capability. I have test the trd pro which my Limited can do 99.9% of what the pro can do. I also love the look of the predator tube steps

I bought this same model truck in sept when they first rolled out. One trip down a gravel road and I have a HORRIBLE squeak coming from the rear springs that won't stop. I have taken it to the dealer 4 times (FOUR) and they still can't fix it. I don't know about you, but a 40k 4x4 should be able to handle a 4 mile stretch of gravel road without a hitch.

I m just wonder why is Toyota stop making Gloves box lights for 40k truck, because i just bought one exactly like this but I couldn't find any light in glove box by any chance.

Is this Tacoma the same as the Toyota Hilux they sell in Southeast Asia and Australia? If not, what are the differences?

hmm... one vehicle will last me a long time, the other will be re-called within a few years. Sticking with Toyota folks.
@benjaminmeza53722 жыл бұрын
Toyota Tacomas are just glorified sedans. It is just a car that has been raised up and the trunk taken away. If you want to pull a heavy trailer full of stuff you think a big American truck with a v8. That is why Toyota trucks last so long, they don't pull anything heavy enough to create real stress to the engine in it's life.....of course they last long.
@Jaysen67408 жыл бұрын
Looks like you put the rear head rests in backwards when demonstration the rear seats folding down. I think if they were facing the right way, the perceived problem of them getting in the way will go away.
@TestDrivenTV8 жыл бұрын
+Jaysen Gill It would appear you could put them the other way, but you cannot. The posts aren;t long enough to engage when they are turned around.

Wow...that kinda sucks. I really want to buy this truck this year. Still don't that it's a big enough deal to buy the Canyon or something else. I've wanted a Tacoma for fifteen years and am just now at a point in life I can afford one. I appreciate you video!

according to Edmunds it slower than last year's and fuel economy falls short of EPA (it always does). no height adjustment? this truck is aimed for midgets and not you average American.
