Transmission service is the one thing most people never do with any regularity..the other is oil changes! Thanks for the “Insight”!

I've heard on the street that if you clean the truck filter pick up tube and also don't lubricant the filter O-ring it hangs up there a little better while putting the pan up . 👍 Nice vid .

Just did this on my 2017 F250. I guess I’m fortunate that the 17 still had a drain plug and full length dip stick. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for this video I’ve been looking for this service information for our 2018 f250 for a while. Great stuff, you answered a lot of questions.

If you wipe the channel where the filter inserts, then push the new filter up into it, it will stay put long enough for you to maneuver the pan into place.

Should note that this is the 6R100 transmission that is only in the 2017+ F250 6.2L gassers. 2011-2016 F250 6.2L had the same 6R140 transmission that is in all other 2011+ F250 and F350 gas and diesel models, which does have a drain plug and dipstick... Also, the V and LV stand for viscous and low viscosity. The Mercon V was slightly more viscous than the original Mercon fluid. These transmissions need the lower viscosity LV fluid, and there is also Mercon ULV, which is ultra low viscosity.

Great information. Thank you! I will update the description accordingly.

@@automotiveinsight Forgot to mention how helpful your video was. I have both 2016 and 2019 6.2L F250's and I've done the trans flush on the 16 but needed this video to find the fill plug on the 19 that I'll be doing this weekend... so, thanks!

Great video. I just bought a (new to me) 2019 F250 6.2 with 156k miles on it. Previous owner did an excellent job on regular services, but this will be helpful for the future.

Hi I have the 2018 6.2 gasser with the 6r100 transmission as what Ford told me it is. I’m assuming that’s what you have ? Not sure if mine has that under truck trany fill and check. I’ll to look when back up on lift . I was filling from top trany tube . Have you seen the Dorman trany pans ? On Amazon they are around $37 with a drain plug . I bought one and installed it . Seems really nice but not sure if that filter is staying up in its location to do its job in either pan you are using . Do you know of anyway of knowing that filter stays in place while putting that pan on ? Great video

Thanks. I haven't seen the oil pan you're talking about, but that makes sense and is a good idea. Dorman usually makes pretty decent stuff so if you're planning on keeping the truck a long time and performing this service regularly, it would probably be a good investment. My understanding is that the filter won't go down far enough to fall out once the pan is installed, which would make sense. I don't remember off hand what exactly it looks like up there, but I would guess if it fell, it would be in the wrong spot and you couldn't get the pan back on. If you were concerned about it, you could used a boroscope camera through the fill plug to see if it's where it needs to be.

Ive seen B&M has a deeper oil pan with a drain plug for the 6r100 transmission that holds 3.25 quarts over stock if i remember correctly…….. anyways i ordered it and now im wondering if the filter will sit right ……. Yikes ….. to be continued…..

So the transmission filter is just gonna float shouldn’t it clip in somehow or pop in?
@jamesmooney53484 ай бұрын
Where did the yellow plastic plunger go? When i dropped my pan (2017 F-250) the filter fell off as yours, but a plastic yellow unger was sitting in the pan as well. We dont know exactly where it came from.... Lord help
@ClassicalStupidity3 ай бұрын
Did you ever figure out where it went? Mine did the same
@jamesmooney53483 ай бұрын
@ClassicalStupidity I was told it was in there from the time it was put together at the plant I guess its there to keep out particles I guess it should be there for every first fluid change So i was told

I didn't see you remove or add a new gasket/sealant for the pan...
@automotiveinsight Жыл бұрын
Reused the gasket the first time. The filter came with a new gasket and I replaced it the second time. I didn’t show it because I had to fight with the filter and pan to get it back on.

Where do you find where it needs to read on dip stick and what temp?
@MyronJackson8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. I did mine and there was a yellow piece with a o ring in the pan. Any idea where that goes back into?
@jamesw26447 ай бұрын
That is a good sign. That means the transmission Pan hasn’t been dropped since it came off the factory. If you were buying a used car and you suspected the vehicle had transmission issues or wanted to know if a drain and flush were ever performed or if you paid someone to do it and they scammed you by charging you for work never performed the presence or lack therof would tell you a lot of information
@MatthewHathcock5 ай бұрын
The yellow peice is a dip stick plug while the truck goes down the line during assembly. When line workers push the dip stick in, it knocks that yellow plug into the Trans pan
@frankemerson672015 күн бұрын

@johnpowers1125 Жыл бұрын
Why did you drain it twice?
@automotiveinsight Жыл бұрын
You don't have to, but the transmission capacity is 13.9 qts, so doing it twice (12 qts) is much closer to a flush than a drain and fill.
