I have has some issues with the front brake on this 2017 Beta 300RR. It seems that it likes to grab and lock the front wheel up much easier than the other bikes I have been testing over the past few years. There just isn’t much feel on that brake. I’m doing all of this with 1 finger most of the time.
Special thanks to my $10/month patrons on / dirtbikechannel

Agree on the super-touchy front brakes. I'm watching from my couch, left leg elevated, recovering from a tib-fib spiral fracture a few weeks ago. Went down on my 390 on hard-packed damp clay, hard and instantly. Lots of gear on, but nothing to save a twisted leg.

Thanks. I'm not really blaming the Beta - everything is rider error, really, but the brakes are really different from my other bikes.

dznnf7 just getting over tibia plateau fracture! Caused partly by the shit tires on the 17 beta 250. Ripping those things off first thing when I get back to it. Found the front brake very touchy as well but never had a problem with them.

How do you like your 390? I'm trying to decide between the 350rr and the 390rr. I just want it to do some easy trail riding and some occasional in town street rides. I just want to make sure I get one that can pull up some decent hills on the trail since I will be riding in the mountains here in New Mexico. Was there a reason you chose the 390 over the 350?

Kyle, it is clear you're finding it hard to enjoy the Beta. There is no excitement when you talk about the Beta. If you look at an older video of the YZ250X, it is so evident. You were truly excited when you talked about the YZ. I'm sure you're still thinking and missing that YZ250X. I have a Husqvarna TE300 '16 which I've had for 2 years. Then I bought a '14 YZ250 (mx) after I've watched your videos and I can truly say, the YZ250 puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. It is just so much fun. After a flywheel weight and throttle tamer, the bike where transformed into a woods weapon. At this stage I prefer the YZ250 for cross country racing. I'm so happy I didn't buy the Beta 300RR around the time I bought my Husky. It was one of the options I was considering.

honestly i don't know how you could justify buying any new 250 or 300 two stroke as of 2018 that's not a ktm tpi . the euros have received and tested them already and they seem to love them. other than questionable reliability due to lack of long term testing with the new tpi they seem to be everything us two stroke guys have been wanting. im a die hard yamaha yz250 guy but im seriously considering jumping to a ktm just for the fuel injection.

Dalton Michaels well if your used to the power hit yz250 assuming u like it. Expect the tpi to make you feel like your riding a four stroke with the sound and smell of a smoker. No power hit. Unless you want that for climbing rocks and shit

First of all... to have that view whilst riding a dirt bike is something REALLY special! And you should try a hare scramble or enduro sometime. They are lot's of fun.

The KTM TPi is going to literally make everything redundant prior to that bike. It triples the fuel range, less smoke, no altitude jetting issues, smoother power, and gives more torque. Plus no premixing.. Us Europeans are good for some things I guess! I'm sure you've read and seen the reviews from early thoughts of the bike, all the pro's say there's no point in ever riding anything else it's THAT much better. Hoping to get your views on it soon for us more 'normal' riders.

Knee braces are must imo you just have to fall and turn your leg wrong and you have 1+ year of recovery before riding again because of a ruptured ligurment

Hi Kyle, I had the same experience as you with the front end. I have since installed a fatter and higher profile front tyre, Installed racetech springs and valves for my weight, and it is a lot better. Because I am tall I installed bar risers as well. She is a LOT more sure up front, but I am still concerned about the flexing of the forks. Apparently BETA says flexing is good?... The small brake tip makes for a real seat sucker experience!.. Love the BETA, pity it can't be produced with KYB. Greetings, William, South Africa

I'd say your riding pretty fast there Kyle. I know guys will say "That's not fast, I ride faster." When there are big trees that will knock you out cold and break what ever hits it including any part of your body or your bike I tend to ride much slower than you are. I'd say your boogin. Already missing UT mountain riding. Back next year again for more. Thanks for the memories.

qtubin Some people ride for the adrenaline rush like myself. I relish in the fact that a tree could end my season at any moment, adds to the thrill. To each their own man.

Do you own the bikes that you ride, or does a shop loan them to you to make videos with? Aren't all trails 2 directional? We can call them Bi. My Beta XTrainer was the first bike that I've been totally comfortable on from the first moment I swung a leg over it, including the front break. I did a stoppie, riding the front wheel for several yards on purpose within the first 40 yards of riding it. It felt exactly like my Gas Gas 300, but much lighter and a bit shorter. I wonder if a different pad compound would take away from the initial bite on yours? I prefer good grab, but many people don't. Sorry about the tip-over. I usually never install those cheap hand guards and just purchase the metal bar style, with the drop angle at the bar end. The oem stuff is pretty useless in my experience. They are much too flimsy to accomplish the job they were mounted on the bar to do. I hope that you feel better.

My xtrainer also has very responsive front brakes. I touch the lever and the tire locks up. I'm wondering if perhaps this was designed intentionally?

I've said it already in another video. The problem he's having with the "front brakes" is most likely the forks adjustment and the too stiff for his terrain Michelin front tire that comes on the bike. I had the same exact issue with my 16 300 RR in factory trim. He needs to adjust out the excessive rebound of the Sachs OC forks. And why on earth you would ride without upper body armor and atleast knee guards is beyond me. Maybe that's Karma.

Beta's handle differently. The front wheel is pushed out further than on a Sherco or KTM, I.E. has less triple clamp offset. I actually like they way they handle. However, I find myself riding it like I ride a KTM (bad habits), and it doesn't work out. The Beta wants me to stand up and be more active on the bike. Yes, you have to put more "oomph" on it in a turn, but the bike feels way more stable at speed Try no more than 100mm of rear sag and see if you like the way is handle better

Have you sent it back to the dealer to.have that break looked at.? I have not heard or seen anyone else with that issue, including the beta owners group that i follow. Too, seems some are not thrilled with the xt 300 forks, but ate happier with the rr's. Too much oil in them ? Just wandering.

Hi im from Alabama I like your films on utube I wish I could help support you but at the time I'm the only one with a job and two boys to raise so not a lot of extra money if you know what I mean. I really like the beta hopefully in future would like to get my son one he is only 14 and is a very good enduro rider on his honda 150 f. what is the biggest differences between beta and ktm engines or can the ktm be as mellow as the beta with the green spring. THANKYOU HAVE A BLESSED DAY

Cheap china bike... save a little more and buy a crf150f,crf230 and then when you resell you wont lose any money because they hold their value so well. Don't buy an ssr unless you're really desperate. I had a ssr125 I bought from a friend for $250 and it was fun then I sold it for $600.
