Hear the 2017 Ducati Supersport S - Akrapovic Full System!
The sound in the video doesn't do the real thing any justice, but should give you an idea of how ferocious the sound is from the Akra full system if you use some PC speakers or headphones. The little speaker on your smartphone won't work at all.
Special thanks to teammcc.com (Motorcycle Center in Villa Park) and the duc_doc for providing me the opportunity to check this thing out and record it. Check out the duc_doc's Instagram @duc_doc

I've owned a 996, Hyper & Scrambler before. I demo'd the SuperSport in the low 90's temps & it was the hottest bike I have ever ridden. I had never felt so much heat from a bike & it ruined the ride. I almost had to get off at traffic lights. I want to get a second ride to see if my experience was an isolated one because I loved everything else about it. Thanks for posting the video, exhaust looks & sounds amazing.

edm163 It's not even close to as hot as a Pannigale ... I've had its on track and tour (peak summer temp) and did not experience it the way you are describing it ... Hmm.

edm163 The seat on this new Supersport gets warm and can get quite warm if you're going slow like stuck in traffic or at traffic lights on a warm day, but it never gets very hot like a Panigale seat. In 1200 miles I've never had a moment where I had to get off of it due to heat and if you're moving it's just fine, even if a little warm. Now I did demo ride a Panigale 959 a year ago and that seat did gets so hot at traffic lights I wanted to get off the bike, so I know what you mean.

My Monster 821 easily hits into the 210s when the weather is in the 90s, if I am at a stop. I agree, if you have to wait long it gets annoying. If I really have a lot of stop and go it hits low 220s, but the fan kicks in to take it to the low 210s.

I agree, ive never ridden a Pannigale but I currently have an air cooled Bonneville and have no issues with heat from that. This being water cooled I would think would be better but that's not the case. Now when moving it's not bad at all but when you have to slow down or stop i was getting cooked.

Thanks for making this. So helpful ... I've been trying to figure out how to set up the back of my new SuperSport S (love love love it!!!): Akrapovic Slip-on vs. Full System, which Tail Tidy, what tail light, etc ... Your bike (and this one) seem to be damn close to ideal. The Akrapovic Full/Race System looks and sounds amazing. With the DB killers in, do you have any idea how many decibels it creates? If you don't know the number, can you compare the volume vs. the stock and/or Akrapovic Slip-on? ... Is it 25% louder? 50% louder? ... It's about neighborhood dynamics (not pissing too many people off) and not getting pulled over every other day. Are you happy with the Motodynamics tail light? Clear, not smoke, right? The Tail Tidy/Fender Eliminator is by New Rage Cycles ... Where does the license plate go? Is it visible or tucked under on a steep (quasi non-visible) angle? Thanks again and happy riding!
@ilmostro16
@ilmostro16 7 жыл бұрын
Lots of good questions! So I wasn't able to hear or record this bike with the full Akra system with the DB killers in, only with them out. I was already thankful for even being able to make this video of someone else's bike and didn't want to push MCC's hospitality. I would say that for me, and my neighbors lol, I would run this full Akra system with the DB killers IN. Again, don't know how much difference it would make since I couldn't hear it, but without them it is pretty darn loud, might be slightly louder than my Termis were on my M821. VS stock, this system without DB killers is I'd guess, about 50% louder than stock... hard to say but it's a big difference! And the sound is much deeper, more Ducati bass rumble, fantastic. I haven't yet heard the Akra slip-on in person unfortunately, so can't compare, but I've read on blogs that it's only slightly louder and slightly deeper than stock, people say maybe 10% louder since the catalytic converter is still there. That makes me think this full system is MUCH louder and deeper than the slip on version. Though keep in mind, this system is close to $3K and then the install is pretty complicated and will likely cost $500 to $800 in labor. It's at least a $3500 system! Plus forget about ever using the optional panniers as well. While it sounds great, and looks good, I personally can't justify it for that money and am waiting to see what SC-Project brings. They've told me in an email that they will release an exhaust for the SS by the fall, so hopefully soon! No idea what it will be. Once I choose an exhaust, I will be making a stock vs whateveriget video for sure. I have the smoked Motodynamics integrated tail light, this bike has the clear. Both are nice and I could go with either but originally chose the smoke since that whole area under the tail is all black so I figured it would just blend better. The NRC tail tidy is great, I love it. It does "hide" the plate on a pretty steep angle, so there is some risk of being pulled over if a cop is bored, but I slightly (and carefully) bent my plate out just a little so it wasn't as steep. It's still fairly parallel with the angle of the tail's under-surface, but not as hidden as before, if that makes any sense. In other words, the NRC tail had my plate flush with the under-tail and now after I bent it a bit there's about a 1" gap, but it's still angled so looks good. I'd say it's visible to a car behind you as it is, but definitely can get you pulled over only if the cop is really trying to be a stickler. I'm personally not worried about it for now and love how clean it makes the bike look! Ride safe!
@blogospheric
@blogospheric 7 жыл бұрын
IL MOSTRO Thanks very much for the reply ... DB in was definitely the only way to go with this system on the street, imho. Confirms my hunch. No panniers is ok. No passengers is a tad tricky. Will get the Smoke light system, I think ... but I won't get away with the placement of the plate here in Europe. I'll keep searching. 😉 ... Enjoy the ride.

I use the Motodynamic integrated signals and tidy on my Monster 821 and really like it. Technically the police can hassle you for a smoked tail light; people I know have had problems with this. But they are also giving riders here fix it tickets if your turn signals aren't nine inches apart! Rizoma and Motodynamic helped me prevent that with minimal change in appearance.

@ilmostro16
@ilmostro16 7 жыл бұрын
birubhai You have to pull off one of the mufflers which are mounted with a bolt and springs. Shouldn't be a big deal to do considering you probably don't adjust the preload on the rear shock very often, unless it's a dedicated track bike. But yeah, it does require the extra step to remove one muffler end.

Ok...now I'm torn between the Termignoni Slipon and the Akra full exhaust for this bike. I'm seriously considering getting the SS 950 next year and I'm already doing research on exhausts, bc the stock aint gonna cut it! I realize the systems are very different. But which exhaust option do you prefer on your SS for the price? Do you feel the full Akra system was worth the money?

Do you lose the "passenger" footpegs with this modification?
@ilmostro16
@ilmostro16 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe you do (wasn’t my bike in the video). This exhaust system is not considered road legal and is technically only for track use, so the passenger pegs were not a consideration during design. If you want to keep passenger pegs I recommend the Termignoni exhaust for the Supersport. It deletes the CAT and sounds incredible. No map or tune is needed and it costs under $1000.

I live in an emissions state, so will this system be compliant, or is it strictly off-road use only?
@ilmostro16
@ilmostro16 7 жыл бұрын
On the inside of the muffler portion there is what looks like laser printed text that includes something along the lines of "NOT LEGAL FOR ROAD USE - ONLY FOR TRACK USE" or something like that. So I'd say if you have to get the bike emissions inspected, they don't even have to plug anything in and can just read that. But I don't know for sure how that works, here in IL we do not have to get our bikes emissions checked. Officially, this exhaust is not street legal is the short answer.

Yeah, I grew up near Rockford. I think only our 77 Buick station wagon had a cat on it. :-P If they come up with a slip on system, I would definitely consider buying one. The sound was just like the race Ducatis I would see at what used to be called Firebird, here in AZ.

Does it make the bike run cooler?
@ilmostro16
@ilmostro16 6 жыл бұрын
Pauly FZ that’s a good question, I would think it could since the catalytic converter is something that usually gets very hot and it’s right under the engine. With this system that’s all gone so I would think it might run a little cooler but I don’t know for sure. This bike wasn’t mine but one they let me record. My Supersport S still has the stock exhaust unfortunately, but as soon as I get a new exhaust I’ll make a comparison between stock and whatever I end up getting.
@pauly1k
@pauly1k 6 жыл бұрын
Ah okay. One more thing: how is the quickshifter on the S models?
@ilmostro16
@ilmostro16 6 жыл бұрын
Pauly FZ It’s my first experience with a quickshifter so it took some getting used to, but once I did it seems to work great (after 1500 miles and the trans is broken in, so almost no more false neutrals). Two things to note with the quickshifter: 1) only upshift under hard acceleration, 2) downshift requires a fully closed throttle, if even for a quickly synced moment, and a firmly positive down click with your toes. Not slamming it or anything, but you gotta mean it when you push down on the shifter - if too gentile it might not pop in gear. But it does work every time after the false neutral between 5-6 goes away with break in. If upshifting while riding casually in traffic, you best use the clutch like normal. Quickshifter up works great when there’s a lot of load on the gears, strong acceleration. But it’s a joy then.
@pauly1k

The system itself is around $2900 I believe, mostly because it's all titanium and Akrapovic is fancy expensive in general. But then figure around 6 hours of professional labor to install, it's a big job and I wouldn't attempt in my garage. It sounds fantastic and looks good but too rich for my blood. That's a down payment on another bike!

ducatiist LOL, this bike is so fun as is though. But seriously, they will never put the V4 in this bike because it’ll require a complete redesign (different frame, etc). What they could do easily is drop the 1200 Testastretta into it from the Monster 1200. It could be a 150-160hp Supersport R edition, which would be amazing but would also take the price up to $18K+

Wasn't able to ride it so don't know. (Not my bike in the video). But I have read people reporting this exhaust does not add any heat the rider feels and actually might reduce overall bike heat a little since the catalytic converter (the big metal udder under the bike) is completely removed with this system and catalytic converters usually get very hot.

@@ilmostro16 yes you can do the difference my friend... just think this.. everybody thinking like you......I did because the others did... I have my Ducati with stock exhaust... the sound is not the best.. I agree... but... it's a Ducati , we don't need sport exhaust!!! Have a good night!

Sounds good, but I still don't understand why people would want their pipes up high at the rear of their sportbike. It's arguably the worst place to have any weight.

I don’t care for this particular design either. This isn’t my bike. I put on the Termignoni for less than half the price.

This exhaust is not street legal, stamped for racing only. Of course I know we all ignore that on most of our bikes, but it’s not going to be designed to take a passenger if it’s made for racing. 😉

Ducati was always about beautiful design and function, in this case, exhaust looks like aftertought , totally out of place, they really drop the ball on that one ! Funny

It would be nice of course, but HP is not all that important for this bike, it’s the flat torque curve that makes it so fun to ride. If you haven’t demo ridden one, you do yourself a disservice to go by numbers on paper. When I demoed one hard for an hour, I didn’t want to get off and signed for one that same afternoon! Forget about HP, torque is where it’s at on the streets.

So true. I've got a V4 Tuono with 158 rwhp, and after test riding the Duke, I didn't want to give it back, so much fun, and so engaging to ride. Selling my dirt bike and anything else not tied down to buy one!

To me it is a tough choice. Ninja 1000 is up 25HP, but about 40-50 pounds heavier than the Supersport. I really like the Supersport S with the quick shifter and the Ohlins, but that makes the price difference about $2500-$3000 over the Ninja 1000. The Ninja 1000 definitely makes a solid case for itself, but man, that Ducati....so lovely!
