Suitable for cold climates for having various dried components or even a tropical climate where treatable water is ample, yet excessive perspiration is expected, this ration is versatile and even more so, memorably delicious and of good quality.
The high sodium freeze dried mains are versatile in this regard, along with the ration being lighter in weight with the removal of the usual heavy canned main courses and replaced with these truly delicious and flavorful freeze dried mains. It still features a can of pork tushonka - ready to eat and absolutely fantastic.
A blueberry energy drink, mysterious chocolate beans, unsweetened brown rice protein powder, and a few other neat food items like a raspberry muesli and also - raspberry fruit snacks. Truly decadent.
A ration that is bound to get you thirsty if you don't have a bunch of water on hand.
I filmed this one back in November 2019 and decided to bust it out to edit and release. Got a few more in the archives that are absolutely worth getting out, along with a slew of new reviews as well.
For correspondence, or to send a Military Ration for review, my exact mailing information is:

As someone who's served in Estonian Defense Forces i gotta say you got good variations. Separate protein powder is great, i never got that. The coffees, don't get me started, the best moments were in the forest, be it winter or summer just drinking it and absorbing your surroundings. Absolute bliss, never felt like that anywhere, true nostalgic impression in my brain forever. Throughout years the meals have been great, some better than others. I love that Steve starts out telling us about the freeze-dried ration and compares it to the canned version WHICH HE ALSO HAS ON HAND to tell us about the weight difference. I think he has an entire warehouse that holds every military ration in human history. Want to know what Hannibal's troops ate as they crossed the Alps? Orange sector, lane six, third shelf, next to the Incan potatoes that have nutrition facts recorded on quipu string. And Steve will eat them for us, regardless of their state of preservation.

@@kuebby from my recollection, something similar to spam consistency but less "solid," (think: pate maybe) with cold gelled fat (it was winter at the time) around it, and a taste somewhat reminiscent (from memory) to just regular ham, like if you bought a ham steak or cold cut ham, but a stronger ham taste. i distinctly remember going to take a leak later and it smelling of ham. i didn't really try it cold, but did put the can in an esbit stove and get it somewhere close to warm and it was alright imo, just the mouthfeel is just off if you're not used to pate style meats. other US guys who were eating out of the same MREs said it looked like pet food so didn't dig in lol.

I love Steve’s vids. I can’t help but to think how a good reason why he only does a video or two a month is because MREs are made to keep you from having to poop, and I can imagine that for this type of content you have to find a balance between trying all the MREs you want and not constipating yourself

I started watching you in 2017. You and Camping with Steve are the two Steve’s I credit with inspiring me to get where I am today. Y’all were the first KZbinrs I started watching. I started on your content - and the algorithm decided I must like camping and outdoors stuff. So they started pushing Camping with Steve. Between the two of you, my love for adventure and camping was born. Through that, I discovered backpacking. Now I’ve hiked in every state except Alaska and am training for the PCT. Every now and then when I see these videos in my recommended it just reminds me of what I was doing in 2017 and how much my life has changed for the better - a change that might not have happened if I never stumbled across your videos (or if KZbin decided to recommend me people like Logan Paul instead of you - which could have very well happened)

10:30 Those are amazing for breakfast, and yes, they are best when cold, if you heat them they get kinda weird due to melted gelatin. In Poland we call them konserwy and you have looots of types of them(big chunks, pate, pork, chicken, mix meat etc), and as far as I know most of eastern Europe countries make them too, as they are cheap as its just lump of meat in a can. And they are not that bad as people think, as its really just meat, some spices, gelatin and basic, mostly natural preservatives. Its weird that we dont see that more often as its HUGE moral booster.

That pork stew in a can - we usually eat it in Estonia exactly the same way that you did. My favorite part is the jelly around the pork, it makes it nice and juicy. We eat it on top of a rye bread. But when I was a student, I did a quick and cheap meal with this by boiling pasta and adding some of this canned pork, nothing else - this is how I ate it.

That canned pork looks excellent. And it clearly comes from a single whole chunk of meat. Plus the gelatin indicates that a rich bone broth was made separately, maybe from pigs-feet, and then poured into the can to gel. What an exceptional high-quality product.

I really admire Steve's dedication to showing us these MRE's and also EATING them, because we all know that in order for him to eat these meals like this he has keep his energy up. He has to go work out after each meal, or stay very active. He only does 1 or 2 vids a week, but it requires a dedication to his own health and physical fitness. Because you can't just eat these and then go play video games or some shit and be inactive for most of your time. He would weigh 300+ lbs lol. There's a lot of sugar a lot of carbs in these meals, not to mention protein which can convert to fat. So he's definitely a super active guy who can eat these things and keep his physical health in check so he can tell us what it tastes like, etc.

@@flyonthewall8122 Ahh, that would make sense then. He probably owns his own business if I had to guess. So yea, he definitely stays active enough to burn off the fat, calories, etc. from eating multiple meals from multiple MRE's every week. Not to mention he just looks like a "gym guy" anyway. I couldn't do it lol. If I tried to start a channel like this reviewing MRE's I'd be just as informative as Steve, but the audience would just be slowly watching me gain weight over months or years lol.. sad. It definitely takes a certain level of physical commitment to be any sort of food taste tester. Lazy people would just get fat doing something like this.

@ItsJustRyansChannel I would imagine age, metabolism & plain ol' genetics factor in there too. Steve said that he became fascinated with MREs after an uncle gave him one when he was a kid. I don't remember which one (ham slices?), but Steve ate it cold because he didn't know how to use the heater that came with it & a star was born lol I don't remember where I read that. Maybe in a video description. I always read those, as well as all of the comments.
