As a retired ASE master tech my only critique of your instructional video would be that doing just a basic drain and fill is not removing all the used contaminated fluid . I believe the actual capacity of that transmission is 12 quarts. The transmission torque converter holds almost 6 of that . Without the use of an actual transmission power flush machine the only DIY method I’ve seen is to actually complete the process that you showed several times . Each time driving the car for at least 15 to 20 minutes. It unfortunately does waste some new transmission fluid but ultimately it is effective in getting most of the old fluid out . Again not knocking your video , just letting others know . Otherwise it was a great video . Taking the time to do this is much appreciated for sure . Like many of the viewers out there I’m proud to always tell my customers that like them I’m a life long student of the University of KZbin !

Excellent video. Easy to follow. I understand the difference between change and flush but I am willing to 'change' the oil a few times since I don't have a facility to flush the transmission.

I would suggest not using tape on the threads. Even a small piece that might enter the trans and can cause problems. LV and VI trans oil are the same oil and will work perfectly. I'd drive it a week and do it again. and maybe a third time till the fluid runs out red. That's the only way to get it out safely. Don't have it flushed, I have seen perfectly good transmissions ruined by flushing. Very good video.

Wouldn't you want to measure the fluid you took out so you do not over fill it? I just did mine and measured out with jug that had quart markings and then poured a small amount out of a 5 quart jug into the same type bottle and then pour the rest of the bottle in. Excellent video, I just did this job last night and for a half second I had thought I put a half quart too much in but turns out I had my math correct the transmission is smooth as can be.

Hi thanks for the great video. When should the filter be changed? Thanks
@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892 Жыл бұрын
On this year model. The best you can do is keep the Transmission Fluid Change. Ford made it difficult to change a Filter.
@kendavis119810 ай бұрын
The Filter on these 6F35/50/55 Transmissions can NOT BE CHANGED with out removing the Transmission from the Vehicle. Draining and Re filling the Tranny at Minimum 20/30K Miles will Save you about $6/8K at the Dealer for a New Tranny. It's cheap Insurance. Same with Engine Oil / Filter Service. Every 5K Minimum, no matter what anyone say's.

Recently did this on my 2017 Edge with a 3.5l engine, so maybe the same setup. This gets about half the old fluid out, because the torque converter doesn't drain. I drove it around a couple of days then repeated the process. So I figure this gets about 75% of the old fluid out.

I have 2021 Audi q8 and doing a transmission fluid change and the filter was shot and fluids low. Causing it to not go in reverse and jerk. I’ve been told that Audi needs to be reprogrammed 55k miles? I know it’s off topic but it seems like you are super knowledgeable
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68923 ай бұрын
First of all I want to thank you for your comment! You are actually doing a service on a vehicle that I have not worked on before. I would contact a Audi Service Advisor or Service Manager to check on the proper procedure. I wish I could help.

@@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892 thanks. I ended up getting fluid changed and it was dark black and filter was dirty with thick gunk. Hoping fluid changed works today but so far looking like the transmission already has all the nasty stuff from the dirty fluid in it.
@DepartmentSupervisor-s2u7 ай бұрын
That info about the change intervals is just CRAZY. It doesn't say whether you pull a trailer ONCE or daily, just change it at 30,000 miles. Engineers have no clue about the real world.

@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892 Жыл бұрын
That sounds like something else maybe going on. First of all it will not hurt to change your Transmission Fluid. Not knowing the mileage on your vehicle. It maybe time for your regular Tuneup. Starting with change your Spark Plugs.

if the transmission is shifting a bit rough (but only now and then), is it worth putting a magnet in the fluid to see if there is any debris?
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68929 ай бұрын
The symptoms that you are having . A magnet would not help. You are right, a magnet purpose is to catch metal debris. If a Unit has a magnet . It would normally be part of the Drain Plug. On Commercial Vehicles it's normally on the external Transmission Filter. I would have it checked out by a good dependable shop. It may just need a Valve Body Adjustment.
@mooauto238811 ай бұрын
Better change it sooner than what the "manual" says these thing are known to breakdown
@gjohns3167 ай бұрын
That’s a fact, what they do not tell you is these transmissions, have a non-serviceable filter, which means you cannot change it unless the transmission is pulled and taken apart so I recommend it being changed every third oil change or you will be replacing it. Just like the PTU fluid needs to be changed, every third oil change also as it is sandwiched between the turbo and the block and only holds a half gallon of gear oil.

I have a 2013 explorer and I've been changing the transmission fluid myself but knowing that the filter is a time bomb makes me more and more irritated at the design of the transmission.
@MaquinasDeRaspas7 ай бұрын
What can you do if you overfilled the transmission? I'd hate to take the drain plug out again after taking so much time to carefully install it.
@dairleautoclassicrestorati68927 ай бұрын
It maybe earlier to drain out some Fluid. Rather than trying to suck it out and taking a chance of dropping something inside.
