You guys are really working great together as a team, and I know neither of you do much pretending in front of the camera: this is a serious tech channel that's very funny sometimes (because the cars can be!) but it's serious, which is why we like it so much. I *am* amazed by the complexity of the 3.5 DI Ecoboost engine and the electronics just boggle the mind, even on a 6 year old car. I have a 2010 Escape Hybrid and FORScan and I thought that car was complex. But the 2.5L in that car as you know is really pretty simple and once you grok the way the Hybrid really works, the rest of the car isn't that bad. That F150 is on another level. It's not that I dislike complexity - if it works and is reliable! - but at first it rings my alarm bells. I don't think many people realize that you're really a doctor-level mind especially after all these years - with all the details and procedures and background knowledge that you have to apply and do your best to get right every time. Great job and God bless. The world would be a happier place if everyone who repairs cars for a living was as good as you two.

@JohnDoesGarage Жыл бұрын
With that kind of mileage on the truck, my guess is the owner weighed the options of investing a considerable amount of money in that truck, or buy a new one. Obviously the decision was to invest in a brand new engine, but I would have seriously considered replacing the transmission as well. You'd still have less money invested than if you bought a new truck, but the most critical components of the driveline would be brand new. Now he has a strong engine in front of a 200K mile transmission. I know it is easy for me to spend someone else's money and maybe he couldn't afford it, but I sure would have tried to swing it. With the body off already there wouldn't have been that much more labor to swap out the transmission. Probably less because there are fewer bolts holding the transmission to the frame than hold the transmission to the engine. Another great video nonetheless!

I have a slight ticking noise, that is loud when the engine first starts and then fades with idle. You can still hear it when it’s idle but it isn’t as loud as when it first starts up. It’s been doing it for a while a, over 10k miles at least and has never gotten louder or worse from what i can tell, possibly exhaust leak? Not sure hoping you can help thanks!

@ghostwrench2292 Жыл бұрын
I would hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to compare what it says. If the mechanical gauge shows low oil pressure as well, first verify your oil level is correct. If oil level is correct with low oil pressure, you may have a base engine issue - not good. If the mechanical gauge reads normal oil pressure, then there is a problem with the sender circuit.
@MCSOK9 Жыл бұрын
@@ghostwrench2292 mechanical gage indicates the engine oil pressure is weak. I guess it’s hello new engine at 190K miles
@ghostwrench2292 Жыл бұрын
Before you condemn your engine, I’ve got a final check you could do. Remove your oil pan so you can access your pick up tube. Remove that and check the O-ring where the pick up tube feeds the oil pump. If that is dry, brittle or other wise damaged it can prevent the oil pump from being able to suck oil from the oil pan efficiently - like when you try to suck from a straw with a crack in it. To be honest, I have not seen this on Ford engines (4+ years in a Ford dealership) but on higher mileage Volvo engines, it was fairly common to find worn seals on the pick up tube feed to the oil pump when a customer complained that the low oil pressure warning came on at idle.
