( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2017 Ford Super Duty is still being tested and developed but Ford invited TFLTruck to take a Sneak Peek at their newest truck undergoing extreme cold weather testing.
Ford invited TFLtruck to Florida to learn more about cold weather testing of the latest vehicles, including the 2017 Ford Super Duty trucks. Going to the Florida panhandle in August sounds like the last place for extreme cold weather testing, but it makes sense if you have access to the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at the Eglin Air Force base 46 miles East of Pensacola, Florida.

@TommyboyGTP
@TommyboyGTP 9 жыл бұрын
bwilliamstown Northern parts of Florida have dipped into the teens and even single digits before. Granted, that's not -1,000 below zero like in northern parts of the globe, but it's still pretty chilly for an environment that's sub-tropical several months out of the year. It doesn't have to be super cold for things to stop working, or not work properly.

If you plan on extended idle times. A high idle about 1,000 rpm is needed. It will put the engine at the lowest engine load, leanest fuel mixture. Which helps the DPF to keep cleaner. I have done these test on a 2010 Mack Vision. The dash has a digital screen that allows me to monitor ever aspect of the drivetrain.

What matters more is how durable will this truck be in these extreme conditions. Any car will work a couple of times in freezing temps like this. What I would like to see is the truck going through multiple cycles so we get a feel of how the plastics will hold up over time and age. I had a Silverado that would break retainer pins inside of the door when it was too cold out, making the door handles useless.

Naaaah, you gotta hold that bitch to the floor with 98-140 gear oil in the crankcase, and then neutral drop it and do burnouts before the oil pressure even builds LOL!!! Thing is, it wont build any LOL the pump will probs shear! hehe.

Born and raised Fairbanks Alaska.. -20 isn’t shit people. I own two trucks that have both endured -60 degrees Fahrenheit. They don’t even get plugged in until -15 🙃

My 03 tacoma started in -40 last year. Didnt sound pretty at all. Probably wasnt all cylinders. And couldnt shift the manual stick for a good while. But hell it started without a block heater. Stop spending so much on R&D give me one of these trucks for a week and pay for me to drive to Canada and i'll tell you when it stops working. Sincerely bet it doesn't start as low as a solid tacoma. And yah I understand it's a diesel which is significantly tricker than gas

run em 24hours a day or the way Russians do it, build a fire under the engine and drivetrain, doors and stuff like that. Also, it's EGLIN, not ELGIN AF base. I live 40 miles from it.

The Emission BS literally kills these trucks. Delete and go best way to help these trucks out. My work f250 is a 08 6.4L and ill let it idle for awhile and i basically start getting lower power mode when dirving around and the truck will barely go anywhere steppin on the gas

Extremely boring video that really showed nothing interesting. Starting a truck in -22 isn't a test and driving it around in a circle also isn't a test. It BETTER be able to do such basic things. Ram and GM have cooler videos on this stuff

lmao -22f thats -30c thats nothing. I had an f150 below -20c it wouldn't start with out the engine block heater so I went back to Chevy -40c starts every time no heater granted might take a bit but it will start

-20F is not even close what the Yukon territory will offer. Any vehicle can sustain -20F just fine and an oil pan/bettery heater in -40F will make any car start. Its never the car its always the battery.

Tell the Ford engineers to come up to Canada in the winter and do there testing without a mutli million dollar test facility. They can stay at my Place for free haha. Really cool to see the testing they do and glad to hear they truly care about the customer's mindset. Mind ya that's a pretty average day up here come winter and when we start getting into the -40F plus wind chill weather is when the chit really hits the fan with trucks acting funny and doing funky things.

Idling a truck with an egr and dpf for long periods of time is horrible. They can clog and or fail and destroy the motor. I would delete both of them, plus the truck sounds and performs much better.

this is where ford spends their money,while toyota makes and advertisement towing the space shuttle on a trailer that puts no weight on the truck and does something a ford focus can do,lol.and yet they sell the better truck for less money AND....you dont have to tell your parents youre gay like toyota owners,hee hee

i dont mean to sound dumb. but why not realy test these trucks in colder weather? its minus 25 right now in Edmonton alberta canada. why not try to push the envelope and try starting in minus 35 or 40. that would be a cool cold start. no pun intended.

The entirety of the dpf system is an issue. Extreme heat build up and problematic malfunctioning due to an emissions system that will cost you thousands each time it throws the code. I deleted mine.
