Buy one used to save tens of thousands. Got a 2015 3.8L V6 AWD with all the trim packages, 50k miles on it and only paid $22k with a new car warranty add $2k bumper to bumper all electronics, powertrain, engine is covered for 120k miles. The Genesis line is SO SO GOOD!

I just checked within 50 miles of the DC metro area, and there are only two LS460s with fewer than 40,000 miles and under $40k (they were $38k and $39k), and they were both 2013s. You can buy a brand-new G80 for about $40k, and it's 4 years younger and has 0 miles, plus a warranty. A lot of people would prefer that.

The reason why they are doing separate dealerships is simple: the brand needs to be considered more than just a gussied-up Hyundai to be a serious luxury contender. I get the point, though, but luxury is 99 percent image, 1 percent practicality.

I've never been to a Hyundai dealership, but the dealership experience is very important as this is part of the life of ownership. Agreed I don't need the red carpet, but if the dealership doesn't have their act together, or they do but the act is trying to find sneaky ways to get more money out of you, or not getting the job done right/reasonably quick...

I love the new Genesis line and can't wait for a sportier option out of them. Although it will probably out of my budget if its too nice :D
@primeholyassasin207 жыл бұрын
A little generic looking, but a competent 2nd tier luxury option. About 12 years back, Acura's TL was the go to 2nd tier luxury car, with solid package of features and a modest pricetag, respectable package overall. I think Hyundai is trying to tap that same entry-level luxury vein with their genesis brand.

Great Review Tom. I feel like the new 3.3T will transform this car. It performs well in the heavier G90. Also, the 2018 G80 updates overall should make this car much more popular.

I love the idea of a dedicated Genesis dealer. I went to Hyundai dealer and it felt really cheesy and half assed if I bought from them. I'm not switching from BMW just to have on or two guys trying to cater the Genesis customers in a lower tier Hyundai dealerships.

All the features, luxuries and performance of a German Saloon yet a fraction of the price.. But is it worth the less renowned/respected name?

I long for the day where the connection to Hyundai isn't even mentioned. When was the last time an Infiniti review said anything about Nissan? And by the way, of course Genesis adopts styling cues from Aston Martin and Bentley. I also appreciate their pale interior decor. Too many black interiors in the industry lately for me.
@DrivenCarReviews7 жыл бұрын
Well, I generally refer to the parent company connection for any number of reasons. And in the case of the 80 it's because it was a Hyundai just a year ago. Most cars come with a minimum of three color choices for interiors so don't be discouraged!
@jeffreysegal20657 жыл бұрын
Oh, I don't fault you for mentioning it- I suspect Genesis is on track to stand above its origins on its own merit. Eventually.

meeeh, the looks are ok and it's not too copied from exterior - the rear reminds of lexus GS300 of some time ago, and yeah the front grille reminds of the new audi's grilles, and the badge - well it ain't too bad. but as soon as you look at the interior, you just have to notice - how much audi can one copy? most the buttons on the center console could probably be easily replaced with an A6 no problem.

Apple car play is nearly a must have in base cars, big omission really
@frankhujsa8217 жыл бұрын
93455Driver the weird thing is that Carplay and Android Auto do come with the base G80, with the 8in touchscreen. If you upgrade to the 9in screen with the "ultimate" package, the you have to lose both Carplay and Auto. It's because the bigger screen doesn't run the same software as the smaller screen. This is the kind of thing that Genesis will have to sort out quickly if they don't want to turn people off.

@frankhujsa8217 жыл бұрын
morgan addis have you seen the depreciation on a m/b s-class?
@morganvon56647 жыл бұрын
Yes. I believe it depreciates at a lower percentage than the Hyundai. Because the base price is so much higher, it looks pretty bad. I've seen new 2016 S-class coupes discounted at dealers by 30k.
@frankhujsa8217 жыл бұрын
morgan addis yes, they're in the same ballpark. As is the c-class, Volvo s60, Nissan maxima, etc. All of them lose over 30% of their retail value after just one year. If that were a stock, nobody in their right mind would buy it. I guess my point is that depreciation should primarily be a concern for the person who buys one of these cars new. It would be much much smarter to buy a one year old model and save like $15k or to lease.
@Fussinated7 жыл бұрын

It’s 2019 and I think I bought your 2016. 29,000 miles, everything works, ultimate edition sedan. $26k from Carmax, not including tax. I have owned new Audi A6, Mercedes E, BMW 3 and 7 series, and Lexus LS 400 back when Lexus was Genesis. To each his own but I love the genesis toys, the design and particular the Long hood and grill. Live I’ve in Chicago so AWD for winter. The interior is a private club car. Quiet, refined, comfortable, matte wood, the lexicon 17 speaker audio allows me to focus the audio experience just at my seat like no other. When watching a dvd the surround sound in the car is awesome. The back seat is huge with panoramic glass for a roof. I did commit me a trifling sin, I picked up a factory rear deck G80 emblem. Just putting on airs.
