@mgh62000
@mgh62000 3 жыл бұрын
@@jonjo2598 The vast majority of it is NOT their own money. It was money that they're managing from accredited investors. That's exactly why the carried interest loophole is insane because their own money is not at stake, only their performance fee.
@jonjo2598
@jonjo2598 3 жыл бұрын
@@mgh62000 Lol, completely false. You have no idea how these funds are laid out - the founders put up a significant equity stake in the initial fund which usually rolls over to later funds at much higher valuations than the money put in. A fund that started at 100 million with 15 million in founder equity might become 25 B with $5 B in founder equity. Carried interest represents growth in equity share of the fund, not a paycheck used to fund a life-style. It would be improper to tax it at the income rate as it isn't income by any stretch of the imagination.

I really don't understand how the S&P is not the universal benchmark for all investment vehicles even if a fund comprises of 100% real estate and 0 in equities it still makes sense to compare it with the S&P because then investors can see the opportunity cost I.E where they could've made the most returns on their money .....personally I think ray Dalio and his all weather fund is a joke
@shaunf2946
@shaunf2946 6 жыл бұрын
Bonde BArca you don’t know how the fund works then...it’s quite remarkable to be able to invest in those types of securities with that much money and produce almost always positive hedged, risk adjusted returns year in and year out.
@Barca25644
@Barca25644 6 жыл бұрын
Shaun French Ray dalio created the fund in an attempt to diversify in virtually every asset class...including bonds ...equities ...gold etc. He divided capital sums between the asset classes based on his idea of proportionally allocating each class capital proportional to the risk I.E the riskier it is the less capital injected ......the flaw in this strategy is the idea that one can actually quantify risk of which he probably is referring to volatility .....which is fine if your turning over the fund regularly but if your holding it for the long-term then viewing volatility as a risk is insane because the volatility in the asset prices makes no difference in the income generated returns that the asset classes produce I.E dividends from equities ....interest from bonds and whatever he thinks gold does ......so in reality as Ray dalio viewed bonds as the least risky they were allocated greater sum of capital ....so in reality the all weather fund is majority a bond holding vehicle with a few equities and commodities but the bulk of the income generated has a higher composition of interest returns from the bond holdings .....so what you think has been stellar performance from this idiotic all weather fund has just simply been a mirror of the performance from corporate bonds .....compare the all weather funds performance to that of the corporate bond market and you'll see what I'm talking about ......and some advice for next time....... it's better to make a claim when you actually know what youre talking about
@shaunf2946
@shaunf2946 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that reply, but I guess I am just so used to others not fully understanding concepts before making an assessment of them; My apologies! But to your points, have you actually seen the weightings and composition of the all weather fund yourself? And your point of the holding periods is very interesting...But it is my understanding that they adjust their holdings on a fairly frequent basis to adjust for price volatility (which in the short term is essentially the same as risk, i.e: loss of capital). I actually agree with your major points here in general.
@Barca25644
@Barca25644 6 жыл бұрын
Shaun French yes I have looked at the all weather funds composition ....a common one if filled with ETFs and there are typically 3 variations of ETFs that comprise of short and long term bonds taking up about 80% of the portfolio.....sorry about getting a bit too fired up im not good at keeping civil during debates I apologise.......my only point is that if it is an investment to be held for the long term then we can assume that the benefit to investors is the income generated in the form of dividends and interest payments and seeing as majority of the income generated by the fund is composed of interest payments from the bond holding due to their large proportion of the portfolio it is somewhat clear that the performance of the portfolio is disproportionately leaning toward the performance of the bonds
