to me this is the perfect car if you commute (or drive alot on a regular basis). basically if you need good mpg and also want to have a little fun driving.

Agreed. I'd like a sharper chassis like the 9th gen, but Honda's gone in a different direction in that regard.

Brian great video! I have owned an 09 si a 12 is a 14 si and now the 17 si ! I agree with ya that the different generation Si s all have their pros and cons!! The previous generations were fun in the way the reved and had v tech! But the bottom end torque in the new turbo is fun too! The better gas mileage in my new si is far better!! Anyway thanks for the video have a great day and God bless!

Jay in my opinion it is the best handling Si to date!! I have put many miles on the 8th 9th and now the new gen x and at high speeds it is more planted and I feel more stable especially doing higher speed cornering!! The sport mode actually does help quite a bit!! But the 8 th and 9 th gens were pretty darn good too!! But not quite as refined!!! The new si isn’t a whole lot faster at lower speeds but when getting on it at higher speeds it pulls quite a bit harder than the 8 and 9!! I have liked all generations but wouldn’t trade my new One!!
@BrianMakse7 жыл бұрын
Jay, I've been meaning to comment. I have a 9th gen and have done a ton of miles in the 10th. The new one has a much more sophisticated platform and it's one of those confidence inspiring cars. The 9th gen is a little sharper on-limit, where the new one is a little more benign. I can rotate my 9th gen with the throttle and point the nose on limit, but the 10th tends to push. ALSO, like I said in the peice, the OEM Goodyear tires are not good. Not sure why they were chosen for this car, but they're not great in the dry and not great in the wet. My reco is to swap them out with a better performance tire (and get a set of winters if you live in that sort of climate).

I have a question for you? I noticed that you reviewed both the civic type r and the new civic si. I understand there's a price difference but if they were evenly price which one will you purchase. I am asking because I been watching other people's reviews and they speak highly of the civic type r and a bit disappointed with the new civic si. I will be purchasing a car within the upcoming year, and I have both of these cars on my list.

@craigmain2487 жыл бұрын
The Type R is overkill for the street. The SI is designed as a sporty real-world fun car. The Type R only comes in Hatchback while the SI can be had in Coupe or Sedan.
@BrianMakse7 жыл бұрын
How exactly is it overkill? Drove it again last week and the thing's freaking brilliant.
@craigmain2487 жыл бұрын
The Type R is designed for extremely high-skilled drivers to be used on the track. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH2kc2eZj5eJabs Like Super Sport motorcycles, the Type R is actually bought by medium-skilled drivers to be used on the street. There is nothing wrong with males using vehicles to satisfy their egos, but let's not pretend that the performance in the Type R is not mostly wasted by average drivers on the street.

How is the rev-hang in the 10th gen SI's compared to the 9th?
@BrianMakse6 жыл бұрын
Nearly the same. I've got a 9th gen Si and it's unfortunately an emissions consideration. The motor in my EF is crisp and razor sharp.
@doctorferdinand10035 жыл бұрын
Curious about the on limit handling comment. Most of the reviews I've read indicate that the 10th gen is a much more composed and competent chassis than the 9th gen. Is this an issue with soft tuning / poor tire choice?
@BrianMakse5 жыл бұрын
Funny thing. I subsequently drove the new Si coupe all over Southern California with that same tire and it worked great there. To be fair, none of the other reviewers have my racing experience, including Civics, and I prefer the livelier handling balance of the 9th gen Si. The new one is a little benign for me, but that’s better and safer for 99.9999% of Si owners.
@doctorferdinand10035 жыл бұрын
@@BrianMakse Thanks for the quick reply, I'm just curious about what aspects of the car felt more dull to you. Was the rear too soft? Is it the longer wheelbase? I drove a base model and I was impressed with the suspension geometry. The new car feels like it rolls weight onto the outside tires as it builds lateral G's rather than OVER the outside tires like I feel in the 9th gen. That said, the car felt enormous and understeer biased. Every corner entry felt like I was loading up solely the front tires while the rears uselessly followed behind. I chalked this up to the soft, safe tuning of a base model and the CVT paired to a meager 150 hp making it difficult to properly transfer weight to the rear. Thanks again for the reply, I appreciate getting your opinion as someone who actually knows driving and is very familiar with these cars.
@BrianMakse5 жыл бұрын
You’re right, the new one is tuned to be benign which makes it an effort to get the rear to rotate. The Si isn’t far from the base car, with a better sprung and damped platform, and quite honestly this new one is still one of my go-to recommended cars. The 9th gen is dynamically sharper in every way. The 2.4 is so crisp, as well, and a pleasure to drive every time I go for a spin. I don’t missy the torque of the 1.5 turbo. We’re definitely getting into Civic esoterica, but I’m a big fan. Civics have served me well, both on the road and on the track.
@doctorferdinand10035 жыл бұрын
@@BrianMakse Civics really are great cars. There are very few cars than can take 2 hours of hot lapping and then give you 30 MPG on your drive home and do this for 150k miles without a second of heatsoaking. I like the new car for its daily friendly characteristics but it really does seem like a boring car when you actually want to go for a drive.

used the volume touch screen in my 9th like once..why? cause you can change it with your thumb quicker, faster, better, dont have to remove my hand of steering wheel and lunge forward while driving and most importantly its for safety. If i did have the 10th i'd probably wont use it still.

I really like this car from the reviews I've seen. But seeing that this is a Canadian review and with Ontario plates, which is where I am from makes me think this whole "it gets great gas mileage" seem somewhat irrelevant when they recommended to use premium fuel. If gas is $1.11/l here, it's about $1.30 for premium, which I haven't done the math but would noticeably down grade that financial benefit of having great mileage. Does anyone know how this engine would react to using regular fuel?
@BrianMakse6 жыл бұрын
It'll take regular, but you won't get 100% out of it.

would like to know how this compares to a gti and a st
@BrianMakse6 жыл бұрын
On which factors? By the way, ST is junk, but ST owners and fans don't want to hear that. GTI and Si are so much better. The ST has an open diff with brakes that slow a spinning wheel, which is just sad for a FWD that puts out that much power, plus the fake drift mode is lame.
