Today's unboxing video is all about the one and only 2017 Jaguar XJ, the UK luxury brand's flagship sedan. Take one look at it and you'll immediately see it's an absolute stunner. Compared to, say, the Audi A8/S8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the XJ has sleek and sexy lines because that's what makes a Jaguar a Jaguar. Here's the thing, however: this generation XJ was launched back in 2008 and in the car business that makes it, well, old. Fortunately, Jaguar updated it for 2016 in order to keep it competitive.
Our car features the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with a total of 340 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. So why should you be excited the next time you see one on the road? Simple, it's because there aren't that many of them out there. For example, the Mercedes S-Class (already something of a rare luxury sedan) outsells the XJ 6 to 1 in the US. And we think that's a shame because the Jaguar XJ looks gorgeous inside and out and who can argue with a supercharged V6? Enjoy the review!

I love your reviews but I have to say Ford messed up Jaguar as a brand by trying to make it American. Tata have allowed Range Rover and Jag return to their roots completely and that's why they are now very successful and growing especially with the new F pace that's selling like hot cake. The Jaguars now feel so much more like the old British Cars, I remember the x type and s type under Ford. Good exterior designs but had too many issues plaguing them as a result of ford ownership. This xj is a beautiful car and to me the best looking in its class exterior and one of the best I.e top 2 in its class interior. It would be great if u get the flagship version the 5.0 litre supercharged xj autobiography with all the options in it. That is truly a work of art.

The XJ is a great car but you still must give Ford credit where it's due. Jaguar was bleeding cash it didn't have but Ford made a huge investment in it and while the Jags built at the time (namely the X-Type) aren't memorable, Ford did make Jaguar a better company and, thus, a better thing to buy.

Ford never took Jaguar serious. Ford mess up the jaguar brand, it made the brand unreliable, and not a fun car to drive. Tata just owned the company but the management and other operations are British that's the reason the Jaguar is back to the business. @Samson, if you like XJ, then look for XJR Ultimate. that was limited option introduced in 2013-2014 only.

+sahil malik Ford didn't "make the Jaguar brand unreliable", they were already making cars with shitty electronics long before Ford came along. The old XJ from the 70s and early 80s was notorious for it. They were run by British Leyland, the world experts at doing things on the cheap.

+CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars Biggest blunder for Jaguar in Ford era has to be the X350. It was such a great car, it was the lightest in its class (perhaps only one less than 2000kg) and so did not need more than the 4.2 V8 to be the fastest in its class and yet one of the most economical. But why did they style it to look like all the previous XJ s instead of giving it a new look? Modern regulations meant that it would never look as classy as the Series 3 XJ and even though it was not 7 series ugly it definately did not look as good as it was

Let's be fair now. Pretty much ALL cars from the 70's and 80's were pretty unreliable.

Unfortunately the US versions of this car don't have the dual-view TV/DVD screen on dashboard (where the passenger sees TV/DVD Video and driver sees satnav but hears soundtrack) The rest of the world has this amazing option which is not unique but brilliantly rare to find and just perfick for long journeys.

They (Ford) shouldn't "get the benefits of the improvements" as you mention. Tata has sunk BILLIONS into this line making it, now, relevant with the XE and the fabulous F-Pace. When they take the XJ and make it into a Panamera alternative in the next redesign and give it a fabulous 6 with hybrid plug-in, then the line will be complete, especially with the I-Pace electric now also happening in the next 18 months. That's what BiLLIONS buys. Go jaguar.

Ford also invested a lot of money in Jaguar, especially its manufacturing. Before Ford, Jaguars were absolute junk.

CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars Junk? Lol no, they were unreliable but they weren't "junk". Ford almost ruined the Jaguar brand, the S-Type and X-Type were terrible, those models are considered *junk* and weren't what Jaguar were all about. Appalling quality, pre-Ford Jags were far better than when Ford intervened. JLR now are fantastic and completely different to what Ford did. Do have to add that Ford did essentially save Jaguar but almost tripped up on it. They were almost going down the same route as GM did with Saab but thankfully Tata came in and picked Jag up.

The armoured XJ you mentioned is known as "Pegasus". Former Prime Minister David Cameron only had the Bomb proof XJ when he was in office, as does any serving British Prime Minister. When previous PM Tony Blair stood down, he went to Buckingham Palace to hand in his resignation in Pegasus, but as soon as it dropped him off it returned to number 10 Downing Street to pick up the new PM Gordon Brown to bring him and his wife to see the Queen, within minutes Tony Blair got into an ordinary XJ to be dropped off at St Pancras train station where he then had to push through crowds of commuters (no bodyguards) for the next train to Durham. When you end your term over here, it's over with immediate effect!

Tata is doing a much better job with jaguar than what ford did.
@carbuzzcom
@carbuzzcom 7 жыл бұрын
I don't think Ford deserves enough credit with Jaguar. The whole reason why Tata bought Jaguar was because Ford did such a good job getting things under control. Jaguar was in very rough shape before Ford came along.

CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars mayb they revived the brand.but they were not making enuf profits.they were on the verge of bankrupty.that was the main reason tata bought it from ford.

+CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars You are right actually. I highly doubt that Jaguar could make it into 21st century were'nt it for Ford ownership. But the X-Type was a mistake. Also I think Ford should have limited itself just to ownership of Jaguar just like Tata rather than doing some platform sharing (S-Type Jag, Lincoln LS ; X-Type,Mondeo etc.)
@contractki11er
@contractki11er 7 жыл бұрын
Anuj Naik - They needed platform sharing otherwise R&D costs to bring new products to their portfolio of 2 cars prior to purchase would have been astronomical. Even Jaguars today are still using Ford's 5.0 V8, 3.0 V6, and 2.0 I4 powertrains.

You guys do know that when Ford owned Jaguar, jaguar still had their own engineering teams and stuff in house. Ford intervened financially on the grander scheme of things.

A beautiful, timeless classic. Shame on JLR for shelving these beautiful machines in favour of the awful SUV and EV alternatives. Sadly not really alternatives but a betrayal of the brand.

No, not the end of story. Ford invested heavily in Jaguar, effectively saving it from death. Tata has certainly helped, yes, but Ford's contribution can't be ignored or discarded.

You either like it or not! There's no "in between" feeling!! The XF is a great car but I think the XJ actually represents the real concept of elegance and luxury!! I sincerely hope to buy a hugely depreciated XJ sooner or later
