The little useless receiver is no longer available. The 2 inch is necessary for most baskets. If you put more than 500lbs in a basket, your an idiot. Motor can handle the 500lbs just fine.

It's all a matter of perspective. The AMC Eagle Wagon was about the same weight as the 2017 Compass and had about 70 less horsepower, at 105-110 from its 4.2 liter straight six. However, the Eagle 4.2 delivered 210 ft/lbs of torque at only 2300 rpms, compared to the Compass's 2.4 liter Tigershark Multiair taking 4800 rpms to deliver just over 170ft/lbs of torque. Funny, though. No Eagle owner ever wants to sell. Those 105 horses seem to be sufficient. But 180 isn't enough for the Compass? Again, it's all about perspective.

It also shared a lot of mechanical components with the CJ, save for the cv axle front diff instead of the straight axle.

Having owned a Fiat Abarth, I found the 2.4 liter engine to be very reliable and fun for that small car. Once I chipped it and got 200hp out of it, it was even MORE fun. Owning a Wrangler now, I don't see how that 2.4 will handle daily driving (merging, etc.) let alone anything off-road.

The only thing that sells this is the badge. The Subaru Forester has pretty much the same set up. Awd, 8.7" ground clearance, x-mode(sort of like Jeeps terrain control). You can go aftermarket and get tires, skid plates, and even a mild lift kit. Nothing about these car based jeeps are special besides the badge. If you want a real jeep get a Wrangler with a good set up.
@PatrickRich
@PatrickRich 7 жыл бұрын
The Jeep does have the advantage of a better "low" that is 20:1 versus about 14:1 in X-Mode. Not to mention with all the short block trouble Subaru has had lately, Im not sure which one is going require more shop time these days. Still, if it were my money, Forester XT all the way.

But how about the departure angle?
@bmwmsport11
@bmwmsport11 7 жыл бұрын
Torrey B the difference in angles is marginal(something like 5%). It looks good on paper but when it comes to real world situations I doubt 5% will make a noticeable difference unless it's a very tight situation. That being said nobody takes something like compass into those trails. They sell bumper guards for subarus and I think there's a bumper mod out there to increase angles. These car based Jeeps come out of the box with slightly better "off-road" specs but it's still not a rig like they make it out to be.
@bmwmsport11
@bmwmsport11 7 жыл бұрын
Patrick Rich seems like the block issues with these cars are mostly with oil consumption(finally fixed the head gasket problems). While it's not normal for an engine to burn oil, it'll still run/drive as long as you top it off. Haven't been following Chrysler cars lately but last I heard was the cherokees having tranny/engine issues due to improper design. Renegades were having tons of build issues(like missing body panel sealant)
@PatrickRich
@PatrickRich 7 жыл бұрын
In case this is a duplicate ignor it. The Subaru issue is bad enough that they settled a lawsuit about it a few years back and are even going so far a to replace entire engines. Its not a minor deal. The transmission issues with Jeep lie in their implementation of the ZF9HP trans. Its mostly a calibration issue and not a hardware issue since this same trans is used in other cars without the same complaints. That being said, I have very little confidence in FCA to build a car thats going to work great after, say, 80,000 miles.

I never understood why FCA built this between renegade and Cherokee..but at the NYC auto show my wife liked this the best(go figure) now that you've compared contrasted vs renegade how does it stack up in your opinion too Cherokee?
@alexlauer7571
@alexlauer7571 7 жыл бұрын
cascivic I'd be willing to bet it's not even close if you get the v6 Cherokee, better suspension, better tires, better 4wd system, significantly more power. that being said, the i4 is underpowered in the Cherokee's 5000lb body, so they'd most likely be just about the same performance if you go with the i4 Cherokee. So if you're looking for an i4 with good fuel economy and off-road ability, the compass or renegade may be a better option.
@DeviousWashere2
@DeviousWashere2 7 жыл бұрын
Considering this and the patriot used to be the smallest vehicle built at a time when the liberty was still around with a truck based engine and true 4wd system, it made sense for them to build it. Then it became a popular fleet vehicle and now i think that FCA is just afraid to get rid of it because of the sucess its had over the years, at least being sold in large quantities to fleets

I'm trying to figure out how "articulation" can mean both clear, descriptive speech and wheel travel. Most words with more than one meaning are at least vaguely connected. Not getting this one, though. Help me out here.
@nickmotsarsky4382
@nickmotsarsky4382 6 жыл бұрын
Frank Burns I look at it like this: Articulate speech can have a wide range or words, both modern and classic and is usually precise and has a wide "reach". Same thing with a suspension that articulates well. It is precise in its tire placement due to high extension or reach and is able to go from one extreme to the other.

I constantly hear about xxx hp and xxxx ft/lbs torque which mean nothing if you don`t tell me at which rpm that particular engine develops that numbers. Me the everyday drive spend most of my time while driving at 2000-2600 rpm. So comparing apples to apples, PLEASE tel me at what RPM the engine develop that power. There is a huge difference between an engine that develops 280 hp at 6500 rpm and one that develops 250 hp at 3700. That is my 2c worth.

Jack White - all while your head didn't sway an entire car width at every dip on the trail. Straight axle vehicles are great off-road, but they really beat up the occupants... Every time I watch an off-road video of Jeep's Trailhawk-badged crossovers, I become tempted to trade in my Subaru crossover for a Jeep crossover. But then I remember a Subaru is the superior machine on the twisty mountain passes versus a Jeep.
