No using torque wrench on the oil pan bolt! 20-25 ft pounds of torque is recammended. Mobil or Castrol brand oil is recammended. Type fully synthetic. Weight 0W40, adding a quart of Lucas brand oil treatment. In place of one quart of oil. Is a big plus, Lucas has two types. One for regular oil and the other synthetic oil.

Thanks for the helpful video! I have an oil change coming up on a 2019 Jetta Turbo. Looks straightforward other than the REQUIRED VW Spec oil (Castrol Professional) and the German VW filter. One thing that would be helpful is if you would tell us the hardware type and size you are wrenching off - especially the oil bung. Also the important Oil spec (VW 502 or VW 504) and quantity (4 litres) and the VW part number for the filter would be helpful. Most folks in the U.S.A. only think of oil Grade (5W40) and not Service Category and Manufacturer Spec since most American and Japanese BRAND cars use THE ILSAC committee fluids. THANKS AGAIN! -Sandy

The undercladding splash pan is affixed using two types of bolts- T25 for most of them and T45 for the 3 in the rear of the splash pan. For the oil drain plug, I would imagine it’s a 17mm like my mk6 Jetta, but that could vary.

I have the same car I never remove the rock protection plate to do an oil change. Plus the filter is in reach from above, so it is easy to unscrew it. This is just too much you did it the hard way. LOL

Hello guys, VW recommend change the plug together with the seal JUST for the first oil change, after that the plug will be recovered and will be changed only the seal. I didn't figure out the reason for this procedure, but that is exactly write on the VW maintenance manual. The recommended torque for bolt is 30Nm and for filter 20Nm, with note do not overtight the bolt and damage the seal which can cause leaks. Draining engine oil on 1st oil change - Unscrew and dispose of oil drain plug with captive seal -1-. - Let engine oil drain. Note Observe disposal regulations! - Initially, screw in new oil drain plug -3- with new seal -2- hand tight, then tighten it to specified torque. Draining engine oil after 1st oil change - Unscrew oil drain plug -2-, and dispose of seal -3-. Note The oil drain plug will be reused after the 1st oil change. - Let engine oil drain. Note Observe disposal regulations! - Screw in oil drain plug -2- with new seal -1- hand-tight, then tighten it to specified torque. - Install engine compartment cover (noise insulation) “bottom”

Yo, wear rubber (latex or similar) gloves...motor oil (hot or cold) is not good for you. This video reminds me of how I have been doing this sort of lay under the car oil and filter change for over 50 years....never gets old. Ooooh, my back is killing me. New engines with the drop in cartridge on top side of the engine bay are a big improvement. 👍
