How ignorant and incredibly inappropriate for for a public official to abuse her platform by denigrating anyone who doesn't believe in her religion and blaming them for poverty. Disgusting.

In fact, you will find that poor people are almost exclusively theists, since education and poverty are highly inversely correlated.

So why are some of the most poor regions of the US also the most religious?
@miket81597 жыл бұрын
Not just the US its applies to the whole world, best places to live the least religious and the worst the most, this woman is an idiot.
@kennethvaughan31507 жыл бұрын
For a number of reasons. One is institutional racism. African Americans and Latinos, such as myself, are on average more religious than white people. Discriminatory economic, policing, and other policies contributes to disproportionate levels of poverty in these communities. There is also the "south" effect, which interacts with this. The American South has struggled with poverty and neglect for multiple generations. This is where many religious people live.

Most of the "best places" you will cite will likely have a state church.

Amigo, what's is wrong on doing the right thing? what's wrong on not to lie? what's wrong on not to cheat? what's wrong on being happy without using drugs? All the time I read the Scripture what I found is: "do good to others"... should I leave that to hurt you instead? or do wherever my mind says I should do? In order to call the Christian Doctrine an stupidity you have to demonstrate that things the Scripture tells me to do are things considered "stupid" by others, as for me, everytime I wake up in the morning, I never get somebody looking at me because I did something "stupid" to others or to me... Example of stupid doctrine... kill in the name of Allah (which is not Christian, but Islam)... stupid, yes... why should I kill people because they do not think like me??

In case you have an edited version of the bible, it says to stone those who don't believe. Never mind that there is no proof of god, heaven, hell, etc. I stopped believing in the Easter bunny based on bad evidence, just as one shouldn't believe in religion on bad evidence. (or zero evidence) Of course you are free to believe in a invisible agent that knows your thoughts and watches who you have sex with as to make a determination on whether you go to heaven or hell once you die.

Guillermo Perez, I've read the Bible trough and trough, and 100% agree with Chris D. In fact I suspect you haven't even read read the entire Bible yourself, am I wrong?

funny how being Christian means to be Christ-like in your every day life. 1 John 3:17-18 "But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth." I don't even believe in God or religion because of people like this. Hypocrisy in modern day Christians is at an all time high. Which Bible are these people reading and preaching from?

Oh dear Mayor Ivy. You obviously haven't given any thought to the causes of poverty in your community. The question completely threw you so you hit out at a minority you thought the christian audience would not like. Do you realise just how poorly that refects on you and your suitability for office?

San Antonio is extremely lucky to have such an experienced, thoughtful Mayor. Please listen to the entire conversation. It is very apparent that many people in San Antonio rely too heavily on government to meet their needs. By listening to this conversation, you can see that Mayor Taylor has a vision for San Antonio, to wean them off of government assistance, and make it a thriving community for EVERYONE!!!

In defense of this women. She didn't say ANYTHING about atheist or non religious people. She was talking to a CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION. I'm tired of these smug atheist online who think people can't have a spiritual opinion. This is why fake news is winning.
@sarahgeer5167 жыл бұрын
Untrue. It doesn't matter what the target of her speech was- she flat out said people not being Christian enough causes poverty. Even if you leave out the obvious insult to the nonreligious, it's ignorant and insulting to the poor on its face
@leod15107 жыл бұрын
So she didn't though? Her quote "“Since you’re with the Christian Coalition, I’ll go ahead and put it out there that to me, it’s broken people. People not being in a relationship with their creator and therefore not being in a good relationship with their families and their communities and not being productive members of society.” - She even went further to talk about the other realities of poverty. I'm not a religious person, and I was expecting real bigotry. This isn't it.
@sarahgeer5167 жыл бұрын
Nonsense. She wasn't saying it was only "broken" Christians- she was saying that since she was talking to Christians she was sure they'd agree with her that people not of her faith or not good enough Christians cause poverty. It's utter horseshit, that a public official shouldn't be yapping on about.
