@5putput so you keep a motorcycle only when its in warranty? I mean if you like MV thats great I'm not belittling your choice. I'm the kind of person who keeps a motorcycle for years and likes to work on them. Italian motorcycles need proprietary tools and service intervals are much shorter however Ducati has made lots of progress in this regard not MV. If you're talking about reliability in a one year or only warranty period I'm not sure if you have ever dealt with the shift in attitude of a dealership as soon as the warranty is over

Nice work. Also thumbs up for carrying the toolkit on your commute. For my bike, two combination wrenches, a single allen key and a Phillips head screwdriver cover most fasteners and fit under the seat. I just wrap them in a small rag and plastic bag so they don't rattle around. That combination was enough to lift the tank and get my fuel hose reconnected at the side of the road after it unclipped on the way home from work one day.

Definitely unfortunate for it to happen during filming, but it happens all the time. I lost the front brake lever on a one-week old brand-new Suzuki when I started riding back in 2001. Riding on a highway at night, I narrowly avoided some garbage bags that were in the road, but it did tore my shifter right off. A mile or so down the highway, there was a sofa in the middle lane! Made it home in 6th gear, including full stops at lights. That was on A Suzuki V-Strom 650. A few weeks ago, my friend and I were doing a Saddlesore 1000, and at about mile 800 - 850 or so, his shifter came off of his 2017 Victory Cross Country. He was able to road-side repair it, and we finished our Iron Butt run (1000 miles in < 24 hours). My contribution to the repair was to hold the flash light.... That's why I ride Japanese, a Kawasaki Versys 1000 these days.

Zack basically said this is an emotional decision not a practical one. I don't think there's anything wrong with purchasing an MV Agusta (or anything really) if it has a design, sound, fit, and finish that reaches out to you. I don't doubt the other bikes everyone is bringing up are a better alternative in one way or another. I just think something has to be said for uniqueness. Thanks for the honest opinion Zack, both good (slick looking, pizzazz) and bad (mirrors, slippery pegs, and shift lever).

I had this bike for a year and a half, I put 4,800km on it. It’s a beautiful and really fun bike. If you’re considering this bike. Make sure you have two motorcycles. God for bid you have anything break or need replacement you will be waiting for weeks if not MONTHS! (I’m talking from first hand experience). It took 3 months to receive 3 fuel gasket replacements.. practically the most basic and replaceable components of a bike. The after sales customers service is the absolute worst. They refuse to give you any ETAs for parts and most dealers refuse to even work on the bike; even while mine was under warranty! I traded in the bike and bought a 2017 Aprilia Tuono Factory for the same price I payed for that MV. Best damn decision I’ve ever made.

i laughed so hard when the shifter fell off. it brought me back to my first Kawasaki/basketcase that seemed to always have a time limit on the shifter...and yes it will cost you more to own an Italian bike especially when you have to order a dozen shifters for it, keeping one with you at all times...the Italians also really love the idea of an Achilles heel, like my Ducati, i lost the left foot peg one day when i backed into a pole and that cost 300 to fix thanks to the cast aluminum piece that even the swingarm goes through

Shame about the bolt coming loose on the gear-shift but seeing as I found a couple of loose nuts and bolts on my MV Dragster I know that it wouldn't put me off buying another one. Just means that you have to go through the bike with a fine toothcomb after its first few miles. As for character... it goes a long way. Tried a few other bikes this year but there's something missing from them. They mostly felt dull and boring. That engine is the perfect blend for most jobs most of the time.

This was my first video/impression of this channel. I __loved__ this review. The presenter had a perfect opportunity(which some might actively seek) to curse the heavens at the misfortune of a situation and swear off a manufacturer for all time; he did not do this! He chose, instead, to bike-on and understand the nature of the machine, the compromises it represents and the whimsy-of-ownership. I found it endlessly amusing to show a mechanical 'hangup' on a review. This essentially communicates to the audience - if you aren't mentally/emotionally prepared for this type of adventure, then this lifestyle(or product) is not for you.

True story: one of my customers bought a gazebo from Italy. Damn, it was truly beautiful, one true garden jewel but there was a petite problem: it was so flimsy, so bloody fragile that it needed some extra engineering and upgrades to keep it bolted to the pavement in case of a sudden summer storm or, you know, just a cheeky wind or something. I’ve came up with a solution but in order to move forward I needed its colour code to paint the extra parts so I called Italy. I talked to a guy from design & technical department, explained the problem and his answer blew my mind: _“Signore, Lei aveva raggione! (Sir, you’re right) it is so and so but it is so beautiful, am I right?”_ Fuck me! He was absolutely right, I couldn't deny it; it looked superb so right then and there I’ve completely understood everything Italian, you name it: Alfa Romeo, Ducati, Ferrari, Italian fashion etc: It may not work all the time (especially whenever you’re expecting it the most) but, fuck yeah, when it does work it will perform like nothing else in this world or/and it will look astonishingly beautiful. “It looks great” - Italian philosophy in a nutshell.

@Rhombus - but they are both 55 ft-lb torque [I have the 765 RS]

Haven't ridden the new models, but it was a tough call for me on the older models. To me the MV has the cool factor and better looks, but the Street Triple just felt comfortable and right for me from the first ride. The MV felt harder-edged. Test ride them both if you can and let us know!

If you want art, buy the MV. If you want a motorcycle, buy the Triumph.

Nice tool kit, way to be prepared, Zack. Love the bike, but the shift lever issue did perpetuate the poor reliability reputation these bikes have. Love this series, great vid...keep them coming.

Great vid Zack! Thoroughly enjoyed this one with the fallen shifter and your reaction to it is mega. Stay calm and always be prepared. Where’s the tool kit from? Seems like something to keep handy! Keep the vids coming! p.s. - thought it was a Ninja 400 at 19:14, hope you can review that one soon

Is it possible that the previous tester changed the shifter to GP mode and didn't tighten the bolts back on? I own three MVs and never had a bolt fall off...in fact, the only issue to date was the startmotor that needed to be replace on the Brutale 800.

First! Love the vids Zack! Jealous of all the bikes you demo. 02 FZ1 here.

SunzOffski I agree. 61,700 miles on mine. About 200,000 miles shy of the current highest mileage Gen 1. She has almost 270,000 miles, all original motor/transmission, etc. No reason to ride a supersport on the street. They really aren't that good.

When Zack is riding and there is all that open wilderness area on his right, it is the Back Bay and Wetlands of Newport Harbor, of Newport Beach, Ca.

Oh look a triumph he gets it.......he's probably in 3rd gear too lmao 🤣

I own one, great bike, never had any issues, sucks the shifter fell off. Put on a QD exhaust and it's one of the best sounding bikes i've heard.

I'm curious to see how this would compare to a triumph street triple . Considering the novelty of the MV, I believe the price is fairly reasonable

A similar thing happened to me on my Buell xb9r, the shifting linkage broke, and I was stuck in fifth gear. Despite that, I was able to take off from the lights in fifth gear with no problem. Torque is awesome.

Zach - How about a S1000R ride.. would really like to hear your thought's on how it stacks up against the 765 RS for commuting.

This is why you do or have done your 600 mile service to check for loose bolts. Dealers know what tends to loosen on particular models. You can use loctite, fingernail polish, or even safety wire. Drill 1/16" hole and insert safety wire and fixed for life. If you have not have had something come loose then you have not been riding enough miles. Zack could have used the locking pliers as a shift lever if he really wanted to or maybe perhaps used a zip tie or a couple of zip ties as a bolt if it was a through and through point of attachment. You could just as easily blame Zack for not doing a though pre-flight inspection especially when he took delivery of the bike for the first time. Check oil, check tire pressure, check critical fasteners perhaps not every ride but depending on how much you ride at least once a month and for sure when you get a brand new bike. Who knows maybe the lunch bell rang when they put this bolt on at the factory and it didn't get torqued or loctite for some reason. Don't have a cow man.

Hey, as a beginner getting my fist bike is not easy. Sadly you dont feature "small bikes" very much, i got to ride some bikes allready and i think you should check out the aprilia pegaso strada/trail variant, its not new, and im not even sure if it has been sold in america but it is a ton of fun and it can be everything you want it to be, supermoto, motocross, naked/street, adv. it only has 50hp but it is superlight(370 dry)..

Zack could you please make a proper MC commute with the Ducati Supersport? I loved the previous video but it wasn’t a commute on roads you’re familiar with to try and do the things you normally do (willie attempts, back it in etc.)
@MrLuigiFercotti7 жыл бұрын
Ouch. That was embarrassing. There was probably some yelling and hand waving at MV when they saw that. When I talked to a MV dealer, he said they are actually pretty reliable, and if anything goes wrong, it happens early in the mileage, then it's fine.

Waiting to see how the coming KTM 790 Duke competes in this displacement segment. I do prefer a grumbly, barking twin. Really wish Yamaha or Suzuki or Kawasaki would produce some BEASTLY large displacement triple (about 1300cc) that revs to 12,000 rpm, built to the same sort of philosophy as the Ninja 1000 sport touring category but with the least amount of weight possible.

Hey Zack! I like watching your commuting to work, but living in Europe and using metrics it's difficult to get all the specs. Could you do a bold, give or take equivalent to the imperial units you use?

It looks like a piece of art. And much like other Italian pieces of art, like Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, it's not ment to actually be ridden. Imagine riding the Dante's inferno. It can't be done.

I own a Super Duke and a MV Dragster 800rr. I can be 6th gear at 2000 rpm no problem. 3rd gear from a red light, no problem. Then you can spin it up to 13,000 rpm. Triples are great engines. They are almost as smooth as a V4 and offer the torque/high rpm like a V4. Easier to work on vs the V4. Hopefully see more triples.
