I'm from Southern California and reside in the Inland Empire area and San Gabriel Valley area. The SV is my first bike I got it in April of 2017 about 2 weeks after finishing my motorcycle safety course class and getting my license. I am 5'8" 175 lb & I can flat-foot easily and commute daily with his motorcycle since I purchased it. I can honestly say that for a first time motorcycle owner and Rider I absolutely love this bike along with all my custom mods that I have done to it. I constantly get great comments on the bike sound and look. As a first-time motorcycle owner and Rider I don't see myself getting rid of this motorcycle anytime soon. Plenty of power when you need it easy enough to ride gentle when you want and the gas mileage is the best part. I average about 45mpg if I drive hard and 62 MPG if I cruise. Like I said I daily commute about 46miles per day and since I've had the bike I can easily say my average fuel economy is about 55mpg. Hope this helps answer anybody else's questions who might be contemplating on this motorcycle I myself have a KZbin channel but I don't have any videos up of this motorcycle as I don't own a GoPro or mic for the helmet but I might do and off the bike overview and first-time owner review on this bike soon.

Hey I'm in rancho Cucamonga and I have a ninja 250 and am about to upgrade to a sv650 I'd love to ride with someone new to this too. I'm 5 10 and was worried about footing bc the second gen is taller than gen one but this solidified my decision.

I agree with you on handling.I had 1st gen SV650 and like many others replaced rear shock with GSXR unit and firmer progressive springs at front and bike was transformed.I flicked that in corners without any fear and never had any accidents due to handling. I actually missed that bike.It developed electrical issue that I end up selling but would buy another one again.

Hey Ryan, thanks for the video; I just purchased the Suzuki SV650 and I'm in love with it. I'm an experienced rider (my last three bikes were Suzuki GSX-R1100RW {1995, 1997) and then the Hayabusa 2014. Now I am almost 67 years old and I found myself a little bit challenged with the Hayabusa to keep it within the limits of the road while getting excited with the throttle....so I decided to step down. LOL. This SV650 is a great bike for beginners and also for experienced riders who wants to keep enjoying riding motorcycles safely (and actually enjoy the ride while not fighting with the bike).

Thanks Abel. I also enjoyed high powered bikes in my youth but after 20 years I'm thinking of another bike. I was worried that the power step down to an sv650 might be disappointing but your comment gives me great encouragement to pick up a second hand sv650. Here in Aus many good deals on those. Thanks Ryan for the video. Good comments on the bike and in Aus we don't see snow especially were I live in Queensland!

@@ethereal54323 You will not be disappointed. The SV650 has 75 HP and that is plenty of power for city or freeway rides. And the best thing is that this bike is so friendly handling. I love it. Cheers.

@@@abelezcurra4104 Thanks Abel. What has reinvigorated my interest in a bike at my age(62) is that I am less than 5 minutes ride from escaping the Gold Coast urban region and onto some enticing twisty stuff that can go on for a few hours depending on the route I take. What I like about the sv650 is that the horsepower is more than enough for the tight twisties and the centre of gravity makes it a very easy bike to flip though the corners. I won't be playing boy racer but I enjoy riding through forested regions at a brisk pace. I can't explain this Abel but those rides are like therapy for me. Riding around town is OK but when I'm alone in the hills and forests It is like I'm being recharged.

hawkrider88 I really like the z650. Looks wise it’s a really nice bike. My buddy has the heavier but quicker z800 and I’ve been on it quite a few times. If you can find a 2016 leftover it could be a steal. I don’t think you can go wrong with a z650 or sv650, I’ve ridden them both and they are great bikes, best of luck to you.

Took an mt07 z650 and sv650 for a test ride monday. Hands down mto7 and sv650 over the z. The z felt terrible vibrated like crazy blinkers flop all over like theyre made in china. Suspension felt super soft after 70mph felt like it might rip off the road. The other two felt solid and the fit n finish was miles ahead of the z. Spend the extra 6 700 you wont regret it.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get for your SV650 on trade for the Thruxton? I bought a 18 SV650 a few weeks ago and am looking at trading it in on a 18 street triple R.. Basically the same mods you did to yours I did on mine. I was quoted a day ago $5500 on a trade value for my 18. Not terrible, but not great either.

Great video, I have an 03 sv650s copper with power commander 3 and yoshimura exhaust. I think if you still have yours, you might want to consider the yoshi over the two brothers one you said you put on yours. Much nicer deeper exhaust note. Hindle makes a great slip on muffler too.

Nice review. I own a 2009 fz600 and I was looking for a more simple bike for commuting, especially because the fz600 is very good in highways but not so much in the city. I thought I have found it on the sv 650. However I was disappointed by the weight of it, and the feeling ( just on top of it) is more or less the same of my bike. I would not change an aluminium frame, 4 cylinders bike for this one, so I opted for a 320 cc Yamaha Mt03, which is 30% cheaper than the Sv650. The Triumph Thruxton is a bike with that old school looking, have you considered the new street triple 765? I am thinking about this one as an upgrade for my Fz600. Thanks for your video!

Out of curiosity, where are you going to use 100HP? Will you take the bike to the track or is it for riding/commuting? If it's around town and for commuting, I don't see any reason to get a Z900 or MT09. Sure, you'll do 0-60 in about .2-.4 seconds faster but you're still bound to the same traffic laws. If you're never going to take advantage of the additional 20-30 hp, why pay the additional $$ to get one?
@TheDeceptikron
@TheDeceptikron 6 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should read up on the subject at hand. an MT09 is not a 70-80hp bike, it has 110ish hp. And you'll want it eventually as you become proficient at riding a bike and wanting to have more power in reserve than having to rev the shit out of the SV650 to get to top speed of 210kph. As much as I love my 2017 SV650 and Im not a new rider by the way, I just felt after a 7 year hiatus of not owning a bike that I should get something smaller than the SV1000S I used to own in 2010, and the fact that I wanted a sporty v twin and the styling of it, sold the bike to me. I was considering an MT09, but for the same money you can buy a Triumph Street Triple S which is a superior bike and I intend to as sporty triples are my other choice in bike. I don't really like that many inline 4's because to me they have no character and generally are way too fast for the road.

@jackmccourt2648 6 жыл бұрын
I'd highly recommend test riding them. I was all set on getting the MT09 until I test rode it. Don't get me wrong it's an amazing bike. Problem is you are more taming the bike than pushing it. I like to feel like im pushing the bike to its limits and if you do anything close to that on an mt09 then you will be at licence losing speeds before leaving 2nd gear. The MT09 was fantastic, but ill be getting the SV650 because I actually felt like I had much more fun and its almost half the price.

6th gear and only doing 60mph?? Hell I ride mine in 4th gear at that speed and it's not thrashing it as for the mirrors they provide more vision than aftermarket ones, but I notice you havent moved them from the position they come in from new. Comparing an 87hp 1200 which is obviously going to make up for the lack of HP somewhere and that is in the torque, to a 650 is silly too. Nice rust on that chain.
@karchman3197
@karchman3197 6 жыл бұрын
TheDeceptikron I will try to respond to each of your responses here. As for 87hp, that may be true out of the box, but it’s listed as 97hp on the website (I know this isn’t the end all be all), and after a de-cat, x-pipe, after market exhaust, pod filters, dyno tune, I guess it remains to be seen where it will fall. Either way, I don’t think making a 100hp claim in jest is too unreasonable. I was never trying to directly compare the sv650 to a triumph thruxton r. I was just saying I’m trading it in for that bike. The common theme of the video is that the sv650 is a great bike for everyone - beginners and non-beginners. As someone like yourself who has ridden quite a bit and owns an SV, I guess that further substantiates the theme. Part of the problem with riding in road salt is keeping up with the chain. Muc-off and ACF50 products seem to do well, but yes in the winter months it’s some extra work.

I presume you've never ridden anything powered by Suzuki's 650 V-Twin before? Whilst still not as smooth as some 4cyl engines, it's much smoother than you're implying. Plus you don't have to rev the daylights out of it to get performance like many mid capacity 4cyls, yet if you do want to rev it out it'll still give it to you without hesitation. That engine has real character, provides really good economy (better than a CBR250r I used to have) and is near enough to bulletproof. What it lacks in outright power, it makes up for in character, eagerness (you can cruise around or thrash the daylights out of it and it'll keep coming beck for more) and giving you what power it has over a wide range of revs. In the real world with speed limits etc it's power is actually more accessible than many 4cyls. It's one of the motorcycling world's great engines. Don't let the fact it's a v-twin put you off!
