I took a test ride on the new for 2016 Suzuki SV650. It's got low RPM assist and easy start, a low seat, and a really smooth v-twin. If you're looking for your first bike, this is definitely worth a look.

Comparing this evergreen SV to an MT07 is a no-brainer.....SV will be the the winner here. Has been around since 1999 and not changed much since then (except for styling digression with the Gladiugly) because there simply hasn't been any need to. Such a mighty little bike!!

Wonderful review. I really like that you mentioned all the nice features like low rpm assist and quick start and how gear shifting feels. It's also good you told us about your height. It makes easier for us viewers to understand how riding comfort will be if you're tall.

Thank you for mentioning the fact that it fits a tall rider. Most reviews seem to forget about that. I love the styling of this bike with the classic, round headlight.

I recognized that too. I´m 188cm (6´2ft) and i sit way better on a SV, than on a MT-07

I have the white one 💜 i'm a new rider and it is my first bike. I'm really happy with this, it is small and good to handle it, that's important, because i'm a small person.

I am seriously considering one, love the white too. How is the seat after some riding time on it? This is the only drawback I have after sitting on one yesterday, it was very hard and angled forward a lot making me slide toward the tank. This is with my feet on the floor however. A bad seat kinda blows all the rest great about the bike and I see a guy here mentioned it..

So glad they're bringing it back, and refreshing it too. That gauge cluster, That ABS! Nice job showing the throttle-assist feature, that was cool! The noise...stock pipe...hmm, needs a few extra decibels ;) next time we meet up you should jump on my SV650SU (the U stands for UNQUESTIONABLY RESTRICTED) for a review ^]^

Thanks for the test ride. I am new rider, but my licence is not restricted by engine size or power output (different road laws in South Africa). I still chose the CBR500R as my perfect bike. I recently found out that Honda SA have decided not to import the 2016 CBR500R... So I'm looking at alternatives.
@WeNeedASaga
@WeNeedASaga 8 жыл бұрын
Oh nice one. I think the SV is definitely an alternative worth considering. If you're not restricted in terms of cc's etc, I reckon the 75hp version of this (which you'll probably get) would be a damn near perfect starter bike. Let me know how you go!

That's one of the nicest Learner legal bikes I've seen it looks especially nice in that black it makes it look faster then it actually is I'm actually looking into a bike license hoping to find a bike some what sporty-ish before I actually get my license id rather lose my own money in an accident rather than anyone else not that I'm a bad rider first bike i ever rode was a 125 Suzuki dirt bike with no brakes or clutch approximately 91-92

So bizarre seeing you riding on the "wrong" side of the street! Just a funny thrown out as in the U.S. we do things a bit different. Still a fantastic review on what seems a great starter motorcycle that one can keep for quite a few years before becoming bored.

Sounds like a good competitor to the MT-07. Would love to give this a spin and do a comparison to my MT :) PS: Just watched to the very end haha. I think the main difference in both bikes would be the that the MT-07 makes some extra horsepower considering that the displacement in the MT is 655cc and the SV would be 650. Plus the MT-07 has yamahas crossplane technology with the 270 degree crankshaft which makes it sound insane with an Akrapovic pipe or similar.
@WeNeedASaga
@WeNeedASaga 8 жыл бұрын
yeah i'd be keen to see you ride the SV and compare because I only rode an MT for 30mins so that's all I've got to compare to. You've obviously way more familiar with the MT. p.s. ur bike is looking killer! Love it.
@MikeKiloNovember
@MikeKiloNovember 8 жыл бұрын
MT 07 has a 689cc engine versus 645 for the SV. Yet, the SV makes 1 more horsepower than the MT. Also, though the MT07 does sound awesome WITH AN AFTERMARKET EXHAUST, a parrallel twin is never going to compete with a V-Twin in terms of sound and raw character. Going crossplane inline twin is just cheaper way of making a V-Twin.

Everybody raves about the one tap of the button "easy start" thing on the new SV as being the latest and greatest. My Ducati 749 is a 2005 model, and has the same one tap "easy start" on it. Guess it's actually not all that new of an idea after all...

I agree and if you have problems with your bike (not starting) would the starter motor keep going for ever? Like you cant stop it unless you can kill the power... Sounds like a stupid gimmic to me.

New engine shouldn't go over 5k rpm for first 800km, than not over 7.5 until 1600km. According to the Suzuki guide. But what do they know? :P I followed those instructions on my new SV, I want it to last.

What is this "learner bike" stuff? Sure, a person can have it for their first bike, but I'd hardly put it in the "learner bike" category. Just because it's not a 1000. I'm sure 500 to a 750 is probably average. So that would mean most people are on learner bikes lol
@WeNeedASaga
@WeNeedASaga 7 жыл бұрын
oh no, I'm not suggesting experienced riders won't enjoy the SV (they will), my criteria for "learner bike" is whether a learner/restricted licence rider is allowed to ride the bike here in Australia. Learners are allowed to ride the SV650 here in Australia.
@startmeup4622
@startmeup4622 7 жыл бұрын
Never thought of that. I think back when I first had my learners there was no cc restriction. I had my one and only street bike back in the 80s and haven't had a bike since. Now I'm thinking about getting back into the sport. I was really liking the Street Triple, but they are so damn expensive and the SV is looking like a next best choice. Thanks for the reviews.

No body knows how long they have, maybe if you ride like your stupid gob flaps, your days may be less than mine. But lets ask you this question, have you ridden the IOM TT ? or are you to girly for a bit of speed. Suzuki gear boxes are supeb, far better than the newest Duke, I take it that you have ridden the newest Duke, which is a bag of shit, or maybe you probably like it clunking away while your trying to find N.

Which of its competitors has the history of 3 generation of the same engine. Which of them have been in production since 1999? Which of them can claim of being fully Made in Japan? If you can answer all three questions I will retract my opinion of you being a noob.
