Toyota ditched this model in 2017 to focus on the Rav 4 Hybrid. I am looking at a good, used fuel efficient, roomy, and technologically advanced vehicle. This car keeps popping up. It checks all the boxes. I will only focus on the 2017 ( last production year) five trim because of the lighting package. Thanks for the excellent review, which is very detailed with some sprinkles of humor. Thank you again.

I leased in April 2016 in Ontario a Prius V. I am 82 years old and a retired engineer with experience in the German automotive industry and aerospace industry which brought me to Canada. In Germany I was used to drive very fast - not only with car mainly with motor bikes. Driving in Canada was very different but I got used to the speed limits, but not to the ridiculous and dangerous driving of some maniacs on the highways. If they would be allowed to drive with 200 km/hour or even faster our population would shrink. So far I survived and could avoid crashing in airborne cars. But driving was just transportation and except when we toured the eastern part of our country pretty boring. No having the Prius V I have fun again. I am not driving like moving road block and accelerate like all the cars do in front of me. If I have to pass a "sleeper" I may use the power mode and sometimes it is difficult not to exceed the speed limit. My average fuel consumption is 4.6 l/100 km, I don't thinks a Smart or a Fiat 500 is better. With a few exceptions I love everything on the Prius V with the comfort package. What I wish that Toyota would change is avoiding the blind spot bin the rear mirror and the location certain switches, especially those for the heated seats. My questions is has Toyota evaluated all possibilities to reduce the fuel consumption on very short trips? I am handicapped now and have to do those. It takes a long time to go back to my average fuel economy. I believe it should be possible by spending not an arm and a leg as for a plug in hybrid which I never considered. Toyota claimed once in Germany "Nothing is impossible" Please bring a proof by eliminating my few complains. If our amateurs in the governments would make a realistic and realistic fuel consumption mandatory for the different classes of vehicles the hybrid technology could help to scrap tax increases such a s carbon tax and help to protect our environment until the fuel cell system has been proven and battery powered cars make sense which. They are still far away of doing that!

Interesting that you say the Prius V accelerates better than some cars. I have owned a Prius V for about 7 years. When I first got it, its slow acceleration was terrifying. I thought for sure I would get killed merging onto a highway. Over time, i got accustomed to it, and ti's fine now. I do not drive ti to maximize fuel economy; I drive it like a regular car. I wonder if ti learns its drivers' habits, and adjusting parameters accordingly. But once up to speed, it's great to travel at any speed - 80, 90 mph, at least until a long hill appears.

I bought a used 2013 Prius V with 35k last year and still love how it performs. This is a perfect car for small family. The back seats recline and can be move back and forth. Cargo space is perfect size and bigger space when folding the back seats. I just wish they had the one with 3rd row here in the US. It’s sad that Toyota decided to discontinued the Prius V.

@Car Confections This car does have CVT Transmission.
@brianlee5649
@brianlee5649 4 жыл бұрын
No it does not, the Prius does not (I repeat) does not use a CVT, but they use a Power Split Device (PSD) where the electric motors and gas engine have a Planetary Gear which is always connected without any shifting at all. So do your research the next time you say stuff like this.

I’m here because I might trade in 2016 cx5 for 2016 Prius V Five. This is due to $5+ for gas. It also has more storage than the CX5 plus the panoramic roof.

I cannot understand why TOYOTA placed the speedometer in the center of the car dashboard. To me this is disorienting. It’s dangerous because you have to look away from the road. I drove a Scion that had this same placement and I did not like it.

When you point your camera at brake calipers and brake disc and say they have a regenerative technology it might be misleading as in reality the electric motor-generator is doing the job of braking and putting the scavenged electricity back to the battery through the inverter. Only when you brake hard the caliper grabs the disc and slows/stops the car like in every other car using the friction of the brake pad against the disc and kinetic energy turns into heat.
