I just bought this same truck as a 2019. I had my choice of all of 'em (sorry, Titan did not make my list). I'm not as interested wiz bang electronics and doo-dads. I'm more interested in long-term durability, reliability, and value. As of three weeks of owning mine, I jump at the chance to run an errand as an excuse to drive it. The dealership is installing the TRD PRO dual exhaust on it as I type this. They were kind enough to provide me with a rental in the meantime. Exceptional service at Toyota dealership. I purchased a Tundra new when they changed the body style in 2007 and after 120,000 miles and 10 years I can say it is absolutely bullet proof. I still love this beast after 10 years ...its absolutely incredible. I do all of the maintenance when required and it always takes care of me. Not one hiccup ever.

Russ Hendrix I just had to respond to your text. FJ Cruiser. Just turned 150,000 miles. Cadalactic converter went out 3 years ago. 2007. Trading it in for a 2018 Tundra. My only problem was the tires. Word Is. the rims on the Toyota caused the deflation . Had to put air in them quite often.

Good job! I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra, Platinum. I still come back from time to time to see what good things this Tundra has. Thats how proud I am of mine, that I have to see the point of view of others and the brag it gets. GOOD JOB TOYOTA.

SenninhaPSX1: Might just be coincidental since Toyota has been using this type of interior for quite some time on other vehicles. I agree though if youre referring to the "King Ranch" look of it. The AC Vents also resemble earlier Fords. Thanks

it's no coincidence, look at the original tundra.. looked like an f150, and they even tried to call it a t150 but Ford didn't like that, obviously. but really, from a business standpoint, that's the best way to go about design. take something proven, make it better and change it just enough to get around patents. I've never owned one, I've always had good experiences with Ford, and even GM and would just much rather have a v8 with a timing chain vs a belt. and that right there stopped me from really caring to look any deeper, and they just look weird now.

I have a Tundra 1794, upgraded the sways, and have coaxed 420 HP out of the engine with 3 mods. This thing will out-corner ANY pickup on the road, while riding like a caddy, and is freaking fast with the HP upgrade. Amazing Lexus-level trim, one of the best stock stereos out there, and a sweet 4WD system, with zero understeer. Could use a 120v bed outlet, but overall, beats the CM and Ford products into the ground. Hook up a Magnusen SC and you're at 500+ HP

Just sat in one today. The stereo was a weak point of the whole truck. Didn't get loud at all. Weird. Not a bad sound acoustically but rather bland. Then again I'm an audio nut with $5k in stereo gear in my RX 350. 😄

One feature that I love is the adjustable headlights from inside the cab. All trucks should have this, but the tundra was the only one until the titan XD came out. helps alot when you are towing or have a heavy load because one, you don't blind oncoming traffic, and two you get more light on the road. This should have definitely been included in your review as it is a great feature.

chris biba and? What's your point? I know all about them being built in Texas. Toyota built their plant in Texas because the largest percentage of Ford customers are in Texas. They aimed at taking a big portion of Fords market by doing that and they have failed. As of a few years ago, Toyota and Nissan made up 9% of the truck market combined.

I have 07 Tundra Limited Crewcab 4x4 with 80k. Only had it a couple years but really like it, very reliable. Pulls my 6000 lb travel trailer very easily. Downsides: I live in Ohio and undercarriage has a lot of rust. You pay for the strong performance, 13mpg on avg, and 8 when towing. But I didn't buy it for its efficiency, but for power and reliability.

I got to drive one of these at the country 500 on the Daytona International Speedway, on a bunch of woops and a 20 foot hill. Great, great ride and very comfortable. A good comfortable truck if you don't tow much. TONS of room. IMHO Toyotas ride the best because it's not fully boxed. Even better than the coil spring Rams. I think the Toyotas frame flex actually helps the ride, but maybe it's all in the suspension design.

sothickitssickk i had no clue having a 360 camera, adaptive cruise control, and self parallel parking made the f-150 a better truck, 13,000 lbs eh, how about 12,200 lbs, does that sound more accurate?, who tows 12,200 lbs with a half ton unless they are completely retarded? don't forget the ford also has fake V-8 engine sounds, a useless remote tailgate ect... all useless bells and whistles that will eventually fail and cost the owner an arm and a leg to repair, that little 3.5 twin turbo that create boost has to work hard which puts stress on the engine which will reduce engine life considerably, let me know when you see a F-150 with a million miles with it's original engine that never needed a single rebuild,, there's a reason why Toyota and Nissan trucks are the only trucks you will see in the most inhospitable and harshest environments on this planet

One interesting observation is how similar the layout is under the hood to a first generation Tundra. I have a 2000 Tundra and noticed things like the battery, fuse box, air intake, and washer fluid reservoir are in the same location. It looks as though the 5.7 V8 is similar in construction to the earlier 4.7 V8 as well. I can't say that I really like my Tundra (because it is not a capable enough truck for my needs) but nevertheless, I am still interested to see what the current models look like. It would be neat to see if Toyota decides to release a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel. Especially since they build commercial trucks, which most people don't know.

+rockymountainman7 Right. If the truck frame and engine is reliable and it continues to sell well, keep using it. The newest f150 is the same engine and frame as the previous generation. Same thing for the Silverado and Sierra. All truck manufacturers are using the same engine and frame for their new generation trucks because they work.

Trying to scratch the smudge off the phone 1:24 but it's his windshield. 😄 Great review. I went to look at a 2015 with 50k miles all serviced at the dealership that comes with a CPO warranty. $36k. Two strikes on that year. Tiny 26 gallon gas tank and small payload. With 14 mpg you'll be stopping a lot of gas stations pulling a trailer. On the positive I did not realize how cavernous it was inside! Wow. Video doesn't do it justice. Waiting on the 2020 version. If all the rumors are true that's where I'd rather stick my first $35k towards.

Interesting seeing how things are different in USA to Australia.. In Australia its a Ute with tray or tub we do have those big Fords, and now we have companies importing Chev.. Dodge Ram but cost a lot of $s... I drive a 2010 Toyota HiLux 2WD 4cyl, 2.7Lt 4speed auto, have aluminum tray with high fold down side boards, tray length is 2,5 m takes 2 pallets no problem and I can carry up to 1 Tonne legally and regularly do, 1 Tonne is = to 1.10231 ton in USA, I have also a ladder rack on the tray & a rack at front nudge bar at front bumper, I am able to carry 6metre lengths up to 180kg on ladder rack, I do urgent Hot Shot delivery out of our City or around our city. On the clock I have 330,000km or in miles that be approx 205052 miles,, Still running like brand new never uses oil runs like a brand new vehicle... Fuel I use is around 12Litres per 100km that's about 3 gallons every 62miles, working hard running hard never stops..

Alberto Gonzales .... I agree. Toyota is 100% the most reliable automaker. However, for the price you pay for their 1/2 ton, I can buy a diesel that will out-tow this 1/2 ton any day of the week. Comes down to paying for reliability, or paying for the bells and whistles of North American or buying pure towing power. All depends on the buyer. Now if Toyota ever made a diesel 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup in the same price range as Ford, GM and Dodge..... Toyota would steal the market. They'd have it all at that point!

that is a beautiful truck, and i like the color. if you take care of it, it should last you a long time. i disagree with you on the towing and pay load numbers. my uncle had an 07 Tundra he used out on his farm, and the original Tow rating was 7,500 pounds. my uncles trailer was 7,700 pounds and he was able to tow that were we are in Colorado. he recently traded his old Tundra for a 2016, and the tow rating was 8,500 pounds, and that same trailer he can now move alot easier. the most my uncle was able to pull was about 9,000 pounds. he also doesn't have the 1794 edition, he just has the a work truck with the 5.7L v8. with all those extra goodies including the crew cab adds extra weight, so that might be why he was able to tow a little more. but it's a really nice truck.

Ive only ever driven Nissan's currently have three in the garage. I will tell you though my coworker has 2 Ford trucks fairly new and they're both in the shop. Not a fan of the MPG or limited aftermarkets but a Toyota may be in my future.

Toyota makes some of the best trucks hands down. I really like Chevy, but this is also a very nice truck. Both Chevy and Toyota beat Ford and Ram. Also the reliability is top notch, unlike Ram and Ford. I really like this 1794 trim! I hope to get one in the future.

First of all, great video and review. I recently traded in my 15 Crewmax Platinum, while the ride and reliability is amazing I feel like Toyota lacks on the technology part. JBL system is horrible, the clarity of the lcd nav screen is mediocre at best. Even the reverse guidelines on the screen were out of sync. Mpg for me was 12-13 hwy 9-10 city. By the time i got to san antonio i had a low fuel level light go on (they added the 38 gal tank now which helps). I had no lift, just leveled the front out and put 33's on it. One major disappointment, no tire pressure monitor system in the cab. One last thing, the leather on the seats is more of a rough harder leather. Kinda uncomfortable for me but the cab is huge. That i did love about it. For a 50k truck, i felt that it just lacked alot of options that other manufacturers offer. Anyways, im alot happier in my 2017 F250. Even though, it cost me 70k im much happier with that truck.

Would that command start issue be fixed if you opened the door old school and unlocked the truck with the physical key? Could it still run the whole time or would unlocking the door turn off the engine?

A quick correction, you kept referring to the 2007 Tundra as the previous generation and this 2017 as the current generation. They are the same generation. The Tundra was facelifted in 2014 with new front end, hood, bed and interior. The cab and doors are the same from 2007 and the drivetrains are almost the same (4.7 2UZ engine was replaced with the better 4.6 1UR). The 5.7 remains unchanged since 2007! Nice decade-old old motor that still is keeping up. And, if you can find a leftover TRD supercharger, you can bolt-on a total of 500hp and 550lb/ft. Discontinued in 2015, you could get these installed at the dealer, with full Toyota warranty, and lumped into your payments!

If it wasn't squatting it's likely because the truck had airbags added to it. Tundra hauling a gooseneck with a dry van as well above the trucks rated capability. Huge lawsuit from personal injury attorneys if there's any type of an accident.

To be fair to Toyota, I don't think they were trying to claim that the Tundra "competed" with 3/4 ton's. Rather I think they were trying to show that it is more overbuilt than the other 1/2 ton's (bigger brakes, reinforced tow hitch, bigger ring gear, ect.).

Those truck should come with heated rear seats, but they don't. Plus I dislike toyota, gm, and dodge on the cab/bed configuration. if you want a big cab(extra space in the rear seat passenger compartmen) then you sacrifice bed space and you get a 5 1/2 foot bed. If you want a longer bed, then you sacrifice cab space to get the the extra foot or longer bed. Ford has 1 supercrew cab design so you have lots of room in the rear passenger seat, plus they also give you the option if you want the 5.5 or 6.5 foot bed.

I bought a 2016 SR5 upgrade and I like it very well, has the 38 gallon tank, but when it goes on low fuel, it will only take 28-30 gallons. Does anyone know why ? Is it just a reserve ? Also, I didn't know about the rusting frames issue, and I would think it would be taken care of by now, but does anyone know if it's still an issue on the 2016 model ? I use it as a construction work truck here in south TX, sometimes we have a lot of rain & mud.

i am a GM guy, but the Toyotas are solid trucks, but i find that you dont see them abused commercially as much as the big three...i find that most guys drive them, and baby them. Say what you want about Toyota, at least they did not go to Push button start...and that rolling back window going down is genius...

Thanks for doing a review on a 1500 series truck. What are you thoughts about the Tundra commercial where they used it to tow a spaceship? That should've exceeded the Tundra's tow ratings, right? Also, since you are planning on reviewing the rest of the 1500s, any chance of going even smaller into the mid-sized pickup truck segment like the Tacoma or Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon?

I own that exact truck. I did a ton of research for the best 1/2 ton truck for towing and this is what I ended up with. The only other truck that came close was the Silverado with the big 6.2 but those are very hard to find on dealer lots and don't get as good as gas mileage.

Exactly. The 3.5 is the most popular engine for the f-150 which can be purchased on every trim level. It's funny that mine has almost the same GVWR as this Tundra yet can tow 2k more and also I can carry about 600 more pounds in the bed. I will give props to Toyota for building these in Texas when Chevy is building all of the crew cab short beds in Mexico.

Shackles .... My brother in law bought a fully loaded F150 Ecoboost and for the first 2 years that truck was perfect. I had considered buying one myself actually. He did not tow with it and he only put on about 20,000kms per year. In his 3rd year though that truck turned into a piece of shit. He's now had it in for different engine noises, codes and check engine lights and the Fird techs don't know how to diagnose it. They keep throwing parts at it hoping to solve the problem. Last time I talked to him, they were messing with the turbos. I would steer clear of all V6 Ford Ecoboosts bud. Hit the forums.... "reliability" is not a word I would use to describe an Ecoboost in the F150's!
