"If you are going to tow, get a diesel. Diesels are meant for towing, gas is meant for speed". Well spoken and absolutely true Scotty!
@KTMcaptain3 жыл бұрын
Not true at all. Plenty of diesels are built for speed, and plenty of gasoline engines are built to tow. Gasoline engines are more power dense and diesels are more efficient. You can build either to be more or less reliable. There have been gasoline powered semi trucks, but since that's a commercial business (typically speaking) they choose to go with lower operating cost diesel engines that are a lot more efficient.
@curtisanderson99843 жыл бұрын
@@KTMcaptain gasoline is not more power dense. There is more energy per unit in diesel than there is gasoline. Secondly, more energy can per extracted per unit of diesel. These are just facts. Gasoline takes way more RPM to make a given level of power. The torque is simply not there. To think lower operating cost is why semi's use diesel is laughable. It's all about torque and usable power.
@KTMcaptain3 жыл бұрын
@@curtisanderson9984 I said gasoline engines are more power dense not gasoline is... reading comprehension is key. Gasoline engines easily make more power per given displacement than a diesel.
@KTMcaptain3 жыл бұрын
@@curtisanderson9984 2nd response since the first cleared up your laughable reading comprehension skills. . Turbo diesels make more torque than naturally aspirated gasoline engines, but a naturally aspirated Diesel engines does not. So compare apples to oranges not apples to carrots. My 12v Cummins made less torque with a turbo than a slightly larger 6.2L Chevy v8 engine. . So no, diesel does not make way more torque. Diesels must make more torque due to their lack of rpm in order to make a targeted HP since HP is the actual measure of work. Ford could make a w-12 7 liter quad turbo out of their 3.5l eb platform that would produce 1100 ft lbs of torque at nearly the same displacement of the 6.7 power stroke. But no one needs a 900hp truck engine so they make a far more power dense 3.5L that can do the same work of the 6.7. . I don’t need an MBA to understand that nearly all business decisions are profit based, so if a gas semi tractor was more economical they would use it. Torque or not, low end torque only matters when starting off and can be completely offset by gear ratios.
@curtisanderson99843 жыл бұрын
@@KTMcaptain Gasoline engines make far less usable power for many applications, Screaming high RPM's needed for gasoline to make the required horsepower result in short engine life and an unpleasant driving experience. The reason diesel engines make less torque than a gas engine in a naturally aspirated configurations is because diesel can run at a wide range of air fuel ratios from the low ratios to as high at 50:1, whereas a gas engine must run at near Stoichiometric, so say 12:1 to 14:1. Forced induction is required to achieve control over such ratios. You must compare "apples to carrots" because they are different fuels the have different requirements. Piston speed is generally the limiting factor in regard to maximum RPM, so you can have a screaming diesel that turn a lot of RPM. Once again, the physics don't lie. Comprehension of this is the key to making you comments make sense. Is the gas in an incredibly efficient and tightly packed more "energy dense" than the same gas ran in a Flathead Ford? No, it's not. It's the energy per unit of fuel that matters and the amount of energy that can be extracted from that amount of fuel. Diesel wins in both categories.

I’ve got a 2014 1794 Tundra with the TRD package (VERY RARE) with 95k miles, still like brand new. Just found a shock leaking & considering upgrading the suspension at a 4X4 shop with higher quality components. It tows my very heavy Malibu Ski boat like it’s not there. Best truck I’ve ever driven!
@mikekaup52523 жыл бұрын
I had a 2013 Tundra for a work truck. Most of my driving was on the freeways. I never got better than 8.5 mph with it. The gas and brake pedals were very jittery and the dealer said that that was the way they are. Visibility was poor due to the large A pillars and the height. It blew white smoke out of the right bank from the day I got it new and yet it never used oil. I will say it had real power and was totally reliable.

That truck is the equivalent of a Ford King Ranch in features, but a huge difference in quality. I should have bought a Tundra over an F-150 King Ranch. Toyotas don't break and if they do, Toyota comes with a warranty more useful than used toilet paper that came with my Ford.

My 2019 Silverado leaked right away. It’s a known issue. Back window leaks. Brand new truck and it has water coming in ? Seriously ? I have a 94 Toyota pickup and it doesn’t leak. I’m waiting for the new tundra to come out. I hope there is a v8 with some solid new tech inside. I drive a Ford F-150 at work. It’s ok. We haul in them and no issues 40k later and we are rough on them. If no v8 option as rumored on the tundra I will go this way.
