With Americans so hungry for large trucks, Toyota makes a strange decision by not giving the Tundra the complete makeover it needs. Thankfully, Toyota knows how to build trucks and despite the Tundra's age, most buyers will find its potent V8, roomy cabin, and competitive tow and hauling capabilities to their liking. They can also enjoy all of that while paying significantly less money versus its domestic competitors.

I personally love this truck over any other. People complain about the tech not being as fresh as that of an f150 or a Silverado but a lot of it isn't actually necessary, it just makes everything more expensive and complicated. Same with the Fuel Economy.. No it's not in the 20's but in my opinion, a few miles difference is not that big of a deal. I praise Toyota for their focus on the parts that really matter: the time they put into improving their powertrains, rather than releasing a new one every 2 or 3 years. People buy this truck because they are so dependable and simple, without trying to fit in with the rest of the class.

It’s handsome, reliable, fast and doesn’t have too many electronics to break down and cost a fortune to fix. Love it! Just like a reliable workhorse should be. Plus that V8 sound cannot be replicated on any V6 engine.

I bought the 2014 Crew Max TRD 4WD and the 5.7. It has been a great vehicle. I added the color coordinated Gem Top bed cover, an after market 14 inch woofer/900 watt amp. add on speaker, running boards and the factory dual exhaust system. Gas mileage has averaged 14 in town and a consistent 19.5 at 75 on the freeway. Absolutely no problems at all since new. Thanks for a great review.

NoName With the push button you don't have to pull the key out of your pocket (or purse) or take it off your belt hook. I leave my key fob on a caribiner clip hooked to my pants every time I go out and I sometimes don't even think about it until I return home and take it off.

I bought a new '18 SR5 4x4 three months ago, after driving Toyota trucks on and off road for 25 years. "Strange decision" by Toyota? I getting tired of hearing reviews that slam what I consider to be the best value on the market, by a mile. Words like "old", "tired", "outdated", blah, blah, blah. This truck has been refined and is still the best at what counts-performance, durability, resale. Search "million mile Tundra". "PITA to get in the truck"? I'm 5'8" and have a 2.5" coilover lift up front, and I don't have any problem getting in the truck. If you focus on minor crap like push button ignition and screen size, then go pay thousands more for an inferior machine that you'll lose far more cash on when you sell. Would I prefer keyless entry/start? Sure, but that's not really that important to me. Toyota trucks have never let me down through decades of abuse and back country adventures, and I've always gotten great money when I sell them after 11-12 years of ownership. That strong resale with the V8 symphony and torque more than makes up for the gas mileage. I highly recommend the TRD exhaust...makes me smile every time I hear it. Why does Ford sell more trucks? Financing anyone with a pulse doesn't hurt.

I bought new and drove a 2008 Tundra SR5 for over 9 years. No issues. Wanted a bit more of the creature comforts And economy so I traded it for 2018 Highlander Limited. Fine SUV no complaints, but it wasn’t a Tundra, so after 4 monthsI bought the 1794 as shown in this video but with the sidestep pipes. It rides much better then the 2008 and the interior is great. The F150 shifty motioned here has the aluminum body and most dealership’s don’t have qualified body shop folks to fix it. Tundra baby, Tundra. All in all a nice honest review.

Honestly even though I come from a Ford family, these days if I NEEDED a truck I would buy this before anything else in it's class. Simply for it's reliability and build quality and relative simplicity that none of it's American rivals can match. And also, this is MUCH MUCH MUCH less expensive than an equivalent F-150 which is ludicrously expensive for a Ford. And also I don't want a POS Chevy or Dodge.

Finally a truck that sticks to the basics and doesnt reinvent the wheel. Easy to use interior options, no ridiculous digital bells and whistles through the nose that will all fail and cost a fortune to rix. Rock solid v8, reliable 6 speed transmission not like these 10 speed ridiculous models. Tough to beat this for the top 3. I rank this as the top dog. Love the simplicity of the interior and no push button junk. Good gear selector and key option. I love that toyota puts there attention and focus where it matters. Way too many people need too many creature comforts, remember its still a pickup truck for work! 10/10 great job.

I did calculation, when I bought my 16 Silverado, I paid $2995 for extended warranty. Gets 20-21mpg hwy. I since then traded it in, I am now in a Tundra getting 17-18mpg hwy. But I didn't pay $2995 for an extended warranty. With the difference in gas consumption I calculated that I can drive till 150k or more before I pay $3000 in gas price. Lol only fools think they are getting a better deal buying a Ford/Chevy cause they can get 20-21 mpg hwy.

I have friends with Fords, that had them all their lives and won't consider anything else, and continue to support the service department. I've has my Tundra for years, pulling 10,000 Lb boats, and it has only been to the dealer for regular service.

The reason they haven't changed much is because it works. If reviewers keep complaining about how outdated it is, Toyota might change it and ruin it. I say leave it alone. Leave all the complicated fuel saving systems and safety nannies to the other trucks.

I love how he keeps referring to “Old/Outdated” but ask those Ram/Silverado/F-150 owners have they even smelled 150K worry/trouble free like the Yota? You can have all the luxury you want, but hard to enjoy when it’s constantly in the shop for weeks on end.

I just put a hold on this exact truck. Thanks so much for the review. And if I can flash ahead to 2021. I bought the Ford F150 xtl eco-boost about this time of this review. Today, it has 50k miles and I've just had drive train repairs. It was in the shop two weeks at different times. The f150 engine is garbage. My nephew bought the 2018 f150 and he also is having tons of engine issues from water pump on ... you name it. We're both unloading the f150. Do your homework before you buy a Ford.

Hey friends, I'm pretty much 99 percent wanting to get a tundra in the future. Every time I see one, it's calling my name lol. The one thing that concerns me and I've seen no one comment on is the safety ratings. The Tundra 2016-2019 has the lowest safety ratings. Any comments on that? Interestingly I'm wanting to get the 2015. Will post on other videos, wanting to a quick response

Toyota went down to Texas, lookin’ for a truck to steal! LOL. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! The Tundra is a fantastic consumer grade pickup truck. The F150 is maybe safer on foot entrapment front / side collisions. But, it sacrifices comfort to achieve it. If you want good fuel economy, then buy an aerodynamic hybrid sedan. If you want to tow / haul stuff, then get a pickup truck.

Although most people want a full update, I see no need. Maybe an addition of the new infotainment and smart entry but other than that it is perfectly fine. I am either going to buy this or the Silverado LTZ when the time comes, and currently, it would probably be a Tundra. And thats coming from a Chevy guy.
