Having come up from British singles and twins in the 60s I must tell you the Thruxton is a bike we only dreamed of back then, after 56 years of riding on a few continents 55++ bikes of every kind this bike is truly a masterpiece. You have to have owned far more than two or three bikes to really assess this machine. "Runs out of " steam, power, thrust?? it's called a torque curve, it comes on, you are in it, you use it, you know it's upper and lower so you stay within the parameters. I have an FZ09 and FZ07, superb machines, extremely fast and capable but I do not compare them to the Thruxton every bike should be a stand alone because once you start it is unending. Glad you love the bike, I too feel the same, you have far more years of riding left, me at 71 I have about 20 years to go, wishful thinking but then riding a motorcycle, any motorcycle is always the better part of a day.

I had the privilege of working on this bike and color at our shop. Could not believe the level of detail in even the most tiniest parts. It is one of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen.

I have had my 2016 Thruxton R for over two years and this one tough bike. I have run mine at Bonneville Salt Flats in 2016 and 2017 and at least 30 runs down the drag strip and has never missed a beat. The engine is versatile enough to allow nine different gearing combinations. The stock bike with stock gearing will run a timed 130 mph, with the Triumph quarter fairing 136 mph. At the drag strip the bike will run 12.1 to 12.4 at 109 to 113 mph at about 3000 feet elevation. I am taking mine back to Bonneville with a full fairing in August 2019 and expect to get at top speed around 145 to 150 mph. The engine cases are not protected so keeping it clean and waxed is important to prevent pits and rust.

You can change the modes on the fly. Select the mode you require. Disengage the clutch. Close the throttle briefly. The mode will change. Triumph issued a recall for a revised map. This seems to have answered the blip blight problem. It's a free upgrade, so maybe a word with your dealer. I'd say you present a pretty fair assessment of the bike. I'm still besotted with mine, and I'm thinking we must have bought them around the same time. There's just 'something' about them!

Thanks for the tip! Im excited to try that out! I have spoken to my dealer about the stalling issue and they applied the latest map when I had the cat removed and the V&H slip ons installed. That solved the stalling issues at red lights. This stall was the first time I had it stall when actually moving. Thanks for watching and for commenting!

WTF!!! You must be having a laugh surely,doesn't seem you have ridden much else since 98 if you think a firestorm is great, tried one many years ago ,one of the blandest machines I have ever ridden !

Apples and Oranges- different bikes in category and character. I had a Firestorm and now a Thruxton RS. I loved my VTR Honda, but also equally love the Thruxton for different reasons- mostly it is a different style era- Cafe Racer- where the Firestorm is more of a Ducati sport bike for the road.

Would be nice if you had shown some pics of the bike, especially since it had the fairing option. But thanks for the comments

Vey nice review, thank you. You didn't mentioned about seating position....is this bike comfortable? I mean how far forward handlebars are let's say compare to sportsbikes like GSXR?

You can change road mode on the fly and sport mode and rain mode you just have to pull the clutch in or put the bike in neutral as you’re rolling down the road and get off the throttle it will flash on the screen three or four times and then it will switch to sport or whatever mode you want to be in on the fly
@danvanbelk12 жыл бұрын
Does t need to be in neutral, just close throttle and pull clutch in

Hi, nice vid. But of all these reviews on this bike no one really gets in to the weeds of comfort. You mentioned it's comfortable, can you expand on that? Like how much weight on the wrists and shoulders, any pain on the butt and lower back? Thanks
@scottstambaugh8473 Жыл бұрын
I just got mine two days ago. And comfort was my main concern. Especially since I had a four hour ride back home. When he says comfortable, he means comfortable for a sport bike. It's actually pretty neutral. Not a lot of weight on the wrists. I also have a Kawasaki ZRX 1200 R. The Thruxton is marginally more comfortable than that, and that is basically a large standard. I don't know how old you are, but I am 60. And comfort is a thing. And I was OK doing four hours on this. It is the most fun bike I have ever owned, and I've owned a few. I am gob smacked by the quality. I adore it.

Hey Man.. On week 2 owning my Thruxton R and I am absolutely in love with it!! I just wanted to know about how you go about washing your Bike? Do you have any tips or tricks or just plain advice? Thanks! How often do you check your tire pressure as well?

How does it handle long road trips on the highway. Does the fairing provide any protection or less buffering in a normal riding position (not tucked)

Big downside to these is the overly harsh suspension set up. Not sure if this reviewer has been over any B grade roads as the ones in the video look smooth. Almost everyone who has these complains of the too high spring and damper rates (for normal weight riders). A real mistake by Triumph who must have developed these on smooth roads. The bias is far too much towards the sporty end of the spectrum for a bike like this that is certainly not a GSX-R. If you know how a road bike should on the road (as opposed to a race track) and you are of normal weight, you will be looking to have the suspension modified. I still haven't got mine right and it spoils an otherwise excellent bike.

Mine still looks brand new after a year and a half but I do put effort into keeping it dry and clean. If it gets dirty, give it a good wipe down and it should stay looking nice for years to come.

The gas cap is annoying. Wish it did have no clutch start or keyless go, but other than that, y, you get tired of talking to bros at a gas station. And everyone wants to take photos. Like PS Classic, it gets respect on waves. Except for old Harley jerks. The Zers love it because it's so stylish and retro. Will never sell this bike.

The Thruxton is the most gutless 1200 cc bike I ever made the mistake of buying. 10 days into ownership and Im over it. Vibration plus to barely get down the road. Like riding a small trail bike.
