2017 USA Gibson Les Paul Standard T Restring Complete Set Up and Intonation Tips!
As the guitar came from the Shop with 9's and I always play 10's, we go through the process of restringing and set up. I played the Senza USA Donna cover with the guitar as it came from the shop, with 9's, and definitely I don't like them.
So here we go - Restring, cleaning, neck relief, string height ( Action ) and Intonation. A bit long but some people may find some tips here. We talk about the infamous tail piece too...

Great instructional video Cesar. I get very lazy when it comes to setting up my guitar properly. With time at such a premium,as I work a lot,I just want to play my instrument whenever I can. This should inspire me to take more time with guitar admin! 😀

Thanks so much Matt... Time is something I do not have ( as an example, I am out all week , writing to you from Colombia ) but I also find joy in keeping all my guitars perfectly ready and when I play them ( which is a lot, taking in account the small amount of time I have ) they are ready for me... thanks for checking in!

THX for all your efforts. I got an old 1983 Les Paul Custom and managed, with your help, to set most of it up. Unfortunately, the screw under the little plate is different. On my PAULA you need a wrench.... not nice... guess they changed it for a reason. Anyhow, I am happy I got your thoughts on setting my „Baby“ up! Looking for more good stuff from you. HELLO TO SPAIN!!!

Good video Cesar and such a beautiful Les Paul! When I first started playing many years ago an old friend a the time told me "when intonating, always think of chasing the needle.... meaning if its flat, chase the needle, bring to saddle in the same direction of the needle". That small tip helped a lot! Also, When checking your neck relief, isnt it more accurate to use the capo and hold down where the body meets the neck? That's how i've done it all these years and thats how most luthiers do it also... just curious on this one. Love the vid's keep them coming amigo!

Hey Joey! Thanks fro sharing your experience, really appreciated! Let me go to the second point - Yes, you are right, but having said that the rule applies more to the acoustics instruments, because of the way they are glued and the dimensions of the Truss Rod but if you do it that way, you cannot be wrong. Cheers!!

Great video Cesar. I will now have a go at setting up my Les Paul because the shop that did it last time didn't set it up the way I like it and when I complained I was told that was the best they could do with it because It is left handed and they said many shops will not set up left handed guitars at all !! It's funny how they failed to tell me that when I was purchasing the guitar from them (Custom Shop Les Paul Class 5) I will let you know how I get on.

I agree my standard T 2017 in honey burst. Many people don't know that raising stop bar should be raised to give less angle better transfer and longer tone. Plus less breakage, Gibson don't tell people in there manual. I agree 10's on LP on some of my strats I keep 9's, yet vintage 62 I like 10's also on Eric Clapton Strat. Think I'll change them today lol.

Gentlemen - Happy you introduced each other... I am getting into a loong one in Bogota in 15 minutes but bottom line - Michalel Joe is a superdude, a great guy and his progress with the axe are amazing from zero to where he is now... Joe, Michael is without any doubt one of the most spectacular guitar players I have ever seen, and a great graphic artist. Virtuosity with the 6 strings and amazing with the canvas... En fine, a total artist.

Hi! Yes, and I do that after getting it done at the bench ( if you watch some of my videos I even mention that) . But filming it in that position is difficult so I get it intonated at the bench and after that fine tune in playing position. Thanks for watching!

Not hating, but you don't see many people have their tail/stop piece not level. Are you not supposed to just have it so you can clear a piece of paper under the low E string then level it out?

When you relief the neck, the strings will go flat..why didn't you retune the guitar so it will give the neck tension then check the neck relief again? Also, when you intonate the guitar/bass shouldn't it be done in the playing position since that is how you will playing the instrument real world situation? If you intonate the guitar/bass laying flat, then it is intonate for that position... when you play it in the playing position, then your intonation will be off...
