Definitely fix the new RV with the parts from the fire damaged RV... you'll never get the smell of smoke out.

Totally agree, the difference in the interior component's vs the exterior and chassis differences will bog you down. The chassis differences will be minimal and should be unbolt on bolt on from the fire damaged one and you will have a newer coach.

Don't know about frames but that fiberglass body would be a major to fix. They may be able to cut the front off the burnt one to put on it if the impact didn't cause any twisting or delamination further back. Still be a massive job though.

I know jack about these types of rebuilds' economics, but I would be moving the engine from the other one into this one after fixing the frame damage. I own a 2017 Thor RV and I can say I would never want that other RV after what it went through with all that foam smoke inside. The F53 chassis these are usually built on seems like it would be straightforward to rebuild.

windshield is different on the 2017 than the burnt one might cause you issues if you try and use the front end of the other one. The 2017 has the newer 6 speed transmission than the other one. couch doesn't fit. the awning on the 2017 you just push the button you don't have to hold the button down it also has a wind sensor and will close by itself if it gets too windy. pretty sure the 2017 is a stretched e450 frame and the other is a shorter stretched frame and is probably the e350.

Fix the front end and back end with parts of the burnt RV and also build in the slide-out from the driver's side. Repairing the burnt pats is a lot of work and as an old firefighter I can tell you, you never completely get rid of the burnt smell. The fire extinguisher they used btw was filled with natrium bicarbonate powder. (that white stuff on the dashboard) In other words very fine salt. In time all that is made from rubber and electronics parts in your RV will be eaten away by corrosion. So my advice is to salvage the parts you need and let it finish what it was started ;-) Good luck guys !!
@bencrockett25663 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of the other posts that say fix the newer one. You stated that you have a Frame straighter. The new one can get all of the mechanicals from the burned out one. You will not have to deal with smoke anymore.

Since there was no airbag deployment, and it definitely had a hard hit, it is very likely the ignition was OFF at the time. In other words, probably parked! Looks like a perfect donor interior! Swap out everything and you will have a virtually new unit! You will also have a warehouse of various RV parts for future use! By the way, the Ford 6.8 V-10 is a beast. Had a Class C on an E-450 chassis, and it could sit for a year in the garage, and started just like "Bernie". I think the gas tank on the RV chassis are all about 50 gallons.
@julianslowik53873 жыл бұрын
Fix both and sell what one you like the least. The problem I see with using the new interior on the burnt RV is fitment. It would be nice if it was like legos and everything just swapped over perfectly, but I doubt that’s the case here. Either way you go I’ll be here to watch.

All you need to do to get smoke smell out is open containers of ammonia! Very cheap and you need to change it occasionally as the ammonia smell dies down it probably isn’t extracting odours anymore! Strip the burned one! Use the frame and front cap off the burned one on three wrecked one!! Will be a much quicker, simpler rebuild and you will be chasing way fewer gremlins than if you try to fix the burned one. Your gonna buy a windshield either way! Your idiots if you attempt to rebuild the burned one in my opinion and from my experience. If it got hot enough in there to melt that TV then it’s possible if has caused shell damage you haven’t seen yet! I wish you luck either way!! Look for another one out there tho before you commit to either India and see if there might be another one that had minor theft damage or something and see what you can do but truly guys, I’m rooting for ya either way you go! Only you guys will know what’s right for you and I’ll support any decision you guys make!!

When I saw you working on the first one, I thought about how cool it would be to gut it down the shell and build it out brand new. You took the slide out, and I would be thinking about how to rebuild it without the slide. By gutting it, you avoid most of the smoke problems, because you would completely remove all the smoke impregnated fabrics and wood work. However, you found quite a number of wiring problems, and that could be an issue as well, though less if you gut it and rewire virtually everything, from scratch.
@bozodog4283 жыл бұрын
Tough decision. The interiors have totally different layouts so a swap there might not be in the cards. If the front ends are interchangeable, that might be the way to go. I know you guys will figure it out.

@DachsAutos3 жыл бұрын
as much as I'd say rob parts off the burned one, getting the fiberglass work matched up, and waterproofed will be a heck of a challenge if you try to mate the two front ends onto the crashed one. I would personally have a slide on the side vs. back so you have more common space too. Big bedrooms are nice, but at least they way my family camps, we use more family space vs. sleeping quarters. The bonus I could see to repair the crashed one however is no smoke smell, and you won't be chasing frozen plumbing forever like the burn unit. Plumbing and wiring in RVs is always a chore.

With your resources I think it depends on the cost to fix them individually verses their worth after you've repaired them. Fire damages are a challenge especially to get rid of the residual smell. It's about ROI, so run the numbers and you'll have your answers.
@nigelw5983 жыл бұрын
Even if the good interior was a straight swap (which it probably isn’t) you would have to TOTALLY strip and clean completely the burnt ones interior first which is a HUGE job. If the front ends are a potential straight swap/graft, then I’m liking fix the chassis and polish up on your fibreglassing skills. Then sell whatever parts are left, generator, tanks, pumps, windows, engine, differential etc and scrap the rest. Cheers 🍻

Part out the burnt one for rebuilding the crashed one. As others have said, the burnt smell will come out. If the motor on the crashed one needs repair, you have a running motor in the burnt one. If the generator on the crashed one is good, then the burnt one can be salvaged and sold, lessening the purchase costs. Carefully evaluate the frame damage to make sure you can get it straighten properly.

Considering the amount of frame damage and body damage that is on the more modern one it would be more cost effective and make much more sense to fix the burned one as it is structurally intact and has no frame or exterior body damage. Use the interior from the newer RV with the wrecked frame and body to fix up the burned one and then you could add some custom touches to the RV as well to make up for things like the slide outs being in different locations

I would use the newer one for parts, as the original one has the side slide-out which gives you more living space, rather than a rear slide-out that only increase's the bedroom area. It all depends on whether you can get rid of the smokey smell and you're able to clean up the fire damaged one.👍
