Mercedes had the fastest car by a large margin that weekend. Evident by Hamilton’s recovery of 5 seconds to Vettel after he slipped off the track, to less than a second in merely 4 laps. Hamilton’s impressive pole is a bit skewed by his Mercedes relative to his other poles. You can argue Bottas was nowhere, but he got some damage, either mechanically or aerodynamically.

Alonso is a man who can drive the wheel nuts off of his equipment, he did his best with the Honda powered cars for the past 3 seasons with McLaren. This year the car is clearly better so I he constantly is pushing the car he should become more competitive as the season progresses, and will be even better in next season.

2018 was PEAK Hamilton. Watching him push the 2018 Merc to the absolute limit nearly every race was an absolute joy to watch. The race in Germany and Italy, the laps here in Australia, Sliverstone and Singapore. This season by Hamilton was probably one of the best done by any driver ever.

He cleared any doubt about who was the better driver between him and Vettel and while he had already been viewed as an all time great (and his fans already viewed him as GOAT), It was after 2018 that he stated getting genuine GOAT shouts by pundits , drivers and neutral fans.

@@maxamam4653 Maybe in your dreams, Schumacher and Vettel had the fastest car and Alonso got close with a slower car but he didn’t win, Hamilton actually won with a car that was slower for many races and slower in the straights. The fact that Bottas was 5th and over 150 points behind shows the difference was Hamilton, and he beat Vettel by 88 points, so it wasn’t even close. Schumacher not only had a car that was way faster he had a teammate contractually obliged to support him.

Everyone saying that they wont watch F1 anymore due to Lewis and Mercedes' speed need to remember that: 1) The gap between kimi, vettel,Riccardo and Max was within 2 tenths 2)This is only qualifying, we know that a repeat of last year can easily happen especially if lewis gets caught up in traffic 3)The long run pace of Mercedes and Red Bull was inseparable with Ferrari only behind by 2-3 tenths 4) If you arent interested in the top 3 watch the midfield scuffle with Hass and Renault and Mclaren and Williams and force india and Torro rosso AND (Maybe) Sauber remember Eriksson's lap?? The fact of the matter is that it is too early to call whether or not the season will be boring, remember F1 is unpredictable

Lewis isn't like Seb and he gets agitated very easily when he doesn't start in the front row. So only engine penalties and punctures will get him to the back of the grid, which is highly unlikely. Seb is skilled at gaining positions when he's at the back but usually by the time he's back in front, the race ends with him having P4 or a podium. So yeah, Hamilton is still gonna dominate which kinda sucks, atleast Nico kept him on his toes but Bottas isn't that fast .-.

F1 is not that undpredictable though. There is always one team dominating. It was a red bull a few years ago, then ferrari dominatedm, then williams were pretty OP, then McLaren completely oblitirated there competition with senna and prost. People just enjoy complaining, and completely forget that F1 has nearly always had one team that is clearly better.

I don’t think Mercedes / Hamilton were sandbagging. (at least in q3) If you watch Hamilton’s 2nd fastest lap, he made a couple of mistakes in the last sector, so he still had a bit of time to find in sector 3, and obviously made up the rest of the time through small improvements around the track. Im still not looking forward to another Mercedes dominated season though. Only two teams have won the last 8 drivers championships.
