2018 BMW HP4 Race Review

If you’re a fan of high-performance sportbikes, BMW’s new HP4 Race should be at or near the top of your must-ride list. This carbon-framed and -wheeled ultra-sportbike achieves new levels of what’s possible from a production superbike. Imagine about 200 horsepower in a bike weighing less than a Ninja 300!
One downside, aside from its stratospheric price, is that the HP4’s lucky and affluent owners won’t be able to flaunt it at the local Burger Barn, as it lacks lights and other accoutrements that would enable it to be sold for street use. It’s a track-only special limited to just 750 units worldwide. BMW says about 10% of them will make their way to our shores.

probably not. it's not so powerfull so after a month or two you gonna get bored and want something faster. for a beginner like you i would suggest the exact bike rossi uses in moto gp.

My KTM RC 390 has a wet weight of 178Kg and about 45 Horsepower..and I thought its damn fast......I can't imagine how that HP4 Race feels with just 174Kg weight and over 200 whp....LOL..

Well when I rode the RC390 I found it pretty fast too, Then I got a Vulcan 650s and that feels even faster, now the RC feels manageable, It's all a matter of perspective

BMW was the only company a year ago who has automated parts of carbon fibre production. Don’t know about now, but big part of why it was so expensive is that it’s usually very manual labor intensive.

Because they have no interest. The investment is too much and there's no payback for it. Even with the HP4 Race, they can't homologate the bike for WSB because it's not a road going bike and the rules don't allow some of the stuff on the HP4 Race. The HP series has always been about fun and technology. This time around they wanted to push the technology in a way that really didn't suit making a road bike. I wish they did but I can see why they made it track only. That said, my 2016 S1000RR is still more bike than I need and I need to keep improving to make more use of that bike.

i kinda get it. i think BMW just wanted to make the best bike they can without losing money (actually profiting) and let the consumers/fans enjoy it. They didnt allowed the road rules limit their product on this bike, which is nice. Im glad they did it so we can admire what kind of machine we are capable nowadays
