First BMW to have the roundel on the "C" pillar? That's because the 3.0cs didn't have "B" pillars. I would still call it the same place though. And that car actually was a coupe!

Hi Tom - I believe the 1972 BMW CSL was the first to have the roundel (sp?) on the C-pillar. You’re still my favorite car reviewer though, despite that pesky evil twin of yours. Siblings - what you gonna do about them...
@DrivenCarReviews6 жыл бұрын
I thought so too but BMW makes a differentiation. The CSL's rondel was on the base of the pillar down by the Hoffmeister Kink, the X2's is within the pillar itself. Something I would have elaborated on but I literally used every frame of video I shot and didn't have footage to start elaborating about it (I hate repeating shots). As for ET, you're not supposed to like him. He's evil.

I'm on my second BMW and it'll probably be my last. The car runs like a pup. And I can afford the vehicle. But certain things rub me the wrong way and I guess my complaints are really grouches: I take issue with RFTs. I want a dipstick. I don't like paying extra for nice paint, and/or being nickel and dime'd for features many other marques include. Or, maybe after 7 model years, it's just time for something new. But, yeah, the car runs great and is fun to drive.
@marcob17296 жыл бұрын
I'm not much of a traditionalist, but to go from the formula of the last gen X1 to this $50k, 4-cylinder, FWD based, and poorly optioned blob is just too much for me... How much do you think Apple shelled out to BMW in order to keep Android Auto out?
@DrivenCarReviews6 жыл бұрын
Probably nothing. Talking to the manufacturers, typically people buying premium automotive brands gravitate heavily to iOS so that's what luxury manufacturers focus on. Secondly, Apple tends to be much more discreet than Google with the data that's collected and that's another appeal. Understand that the manufactures don't share everything with us but those are a couple things I've been able to glean.
@marcob17296 жыл бұрын
that's wild to me, because Android has nearly 70% market share in the EU. Europeans heavily gravitate to Android. Still neat to hear about it though!
@DrivenCarReviews6 жыл бұрын
That seems a little high to me from what I know of the tech world. Android has market share but from what I understand, it's because it tends to skew heavily toward the budget buyers with very basic data plans. But I'm a car guy, not a phone guy.
@marcob17296 жыл бұрын
I'm just a desk chair jockey for both. I should have provided a reference first. Is that true or not? I couldn't say. But when I lived in Italy, Apple phones weren't terribly common. But then again, BMWs aren't for the common folk in Italy gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/mobile/europe

50k for this is a walletectomy. Interior parts quality looks bottom of the barrel. The plastics they use look the same as my 07 328i, and they scratch easily. The 4 cylinder in the Accord sounds better and has more power. BMW has lost their way. The only models worth getting are the m level, which are 60k+.
@g600f7006 жыл бұрын
for those who believes they can buy a sub 30k luxury brand car, are suckers. They don' t make 30k cars, you cannot find it in their lots. They will laugh at your if you order one from the factory. Most of these are for lease anyway. Not to mention their reliability. SUV on a track? Why not get a sports car if you want to race?
@unowen-nh9ov6 жыл бұрын
bassandtrebleclef Thus their record sales, margins, new factories & 50% forecast increase in volume.
@bassandtrebleclef6 жыл бұрын
Un Owen, bmw clearly knows who's buying their cars... People happy to pay 50k for blown 4 bangers in suvs with lots of Roundels to remind its owners its a bmw. Or 40k stripped 320i sedans that sound like lawn mowers.
@bassandtrebleclef6 жыл бұрын
G600f700, I think people have been fooled into thinking luxury is a badge. The X2 doesn't come across as a luxury suv. Turbo 4, small suv, small back seat, cramped interior... 50k is a big lease payment for something that doesn't really give 50k in value.
@unowen-nh9ov6 жыл бұрын
bassandtrebleclef When I started following BMW they were unknown & selling one small 4 cyl. sedan here, by this century they were #1 premium brand. X2 is another funky 4 cyl. that people will pay for because it's also unique in the marketplace. The 2002 cost as much as a pony car 50 years ago, so does X2 today for anyone who doesn't want to own a recycled Mustang, GTi or Subaru. To name a few.

Toyota, Lexus, BMW and other manufacturers that are offering Apple CarPlay but no Android Auto need to implement both. It shouldn't cost extra if the car has a larger screen in the dash by default, especially in premium brands. Why exclude Android Auto? Is it simply to please Apple users with a certain exclusivity? I can't find the logic here.
@DrivenCarReviews6 жыл бұрын
Two things I've heard from the manufactures might enlighten you. Typically, people who buy premium automotive brands gravitate heavily to iOS so that's what luxury manufacturers focus on. Secondly, Apple tends to be much more discreet than Google with the data that's collected and that's another appeal. Understand that the manufactures don't share everything with us but those are a couple things I've been able to glean.

Why do auto makers love to test "performance" SUVs on the track? Even though it's a slim chance, it's more likely to see an SUV off road than on the track.
