John Smith I thought the same thing. I’m sure it was due to the 50” width and the worry people would roll it. I bet a simple PCM reflash will wake it back up once the aftermarket starts kicking out stuff for it

Also bummed about the lack of horsepower for the 1000 model. My renegade 1000 is around 750 lb and made for one person, it comes in 89 horsepower. This Maverick Trail is made for two people weighing in at over 1400 pounds and has only 75 horsepower. And equally disappointed they still have the visco-lok 4front locking differential.
@AppalachianMountainRiders

I would like to se a true locker in the front as well. But hey, my P5 don’t have any kind of locker in the front...lol. It still goes pretty good without one!

Question: the Commander 800R is 9 inches wider than the Maverick Trail 800, yet the MT is heavier than the Commander. Also, the Commander has 20 more HP -- that's a huge difference. I really enjoy your informative videos -- keep up the great work!!

harold haggman that's a big problem with these machines. A lot of us have added some cheap, simple, automotive mud flaps that take care of the problem, but yeah, the bed is too short.

Vico Lok QE sucks in the rocks, period. I have the 1000 dps. Ive spent over $20,000 so far.. went to Darmington Rock Garden it sucked. My Wildcat Trail ate up Miab, Hole in the Rock, New Mexico Rock Crawling. I was looking forward to heading to Moab in a couple of weeks and doing all of the teails again... but with this machine. I also had a trip planned to Hole in the Rock and the Rincon. Now all on hold and Uve got to seriously research a locker replacement that can take a beating. This us my 5th SxS

You’ll probably have to throw a Torq locker in there then to get a true locker. I’ve herd from most can am owners that do a lot of actual 4 wheeling that the visco sucks for that kind of stuff. Got to step up to one of there XMR editions to get a true locker but they don’t offer that in the trail.

How long is it going to take to drive a big stick into that exposed engine? Not to mention the mud and frozen snow/ice caked in there? Four wheeler engines are more protected imo. Keep on riding..mmm.

Those are good points and things I wonder about too. Yhe Maverick x3, Yamaha’s YXZ is really open as well. Those are designed for going fast on open trails and probably not really intended for back woods trail riding to be honest. You would think this guy though being only 50” wide would have trail riding in mind and be more protected. Time will tell. I do know of a couple YXZ’s around here the get beat on the trails and the expose engine has not be the cause of any problems.

I been watching all of your videos and you had me hooked on the P5. I sold my 2014 Can Am 800 commander to buy a trail. So now I am stuck Can Am 800 or P5????
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 6 жыл бұрын
+Jimmy James I haven't had the chance to get the Maverick trail out on the trail yet so till I do I can't say how it preforms. I will say the P5 is hard to beat on the narrow trails and I am a bit worried the length of the maverick trail is going to hurt it in the woods.
@SixDegreesofJim

AppalachianMountainRiders I have been in the p5 a number of times and a cfmoto 800 a bunch. Out west here we have a mixed bag steep hills lots of trails and wide open roads. The p5 only lacks in power but love love love the 5 speed. Now with the Maverick in the mix. Still leaning to the Honda Orr CFMoto.

@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 6 жыл бұрын
Jimmy James To be honest I don’t know much about them. There are no dealers near me that sells them so I’ve never checked them out. I like the looks of them and it seems like you get a lot for your money but a don’t know how well they hold up. I would be confident in saying not as well as a Honda but that doesn’t mean it would be a bad machine. Wish I could help more. I’ll have to work harder next year at getting some seat time in Other brands like CFmoto so that I can better give my opinions of a broader field of the industry.

Good review man. Can’t the 800 be ordered or optioned with the doors?? How big is rear box? Is it as big as the rack on the P5? I love my P5 and your a big reason I traded the Kymco for it. But sometimes I think to myself hmmm what other machine could I like better?? Lol I’ll prob always keep my pioneer 500 until the perfect blend of utility and sport machine is built that’s the size of the pioneer 500 or maybe slightly bigger (56” or less)
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 5 жыл бұрын
You can get the doors for the 800. They just have to be bought separate but according to the guys at the dealer they bolt right on. The rear bed is probably real close to the size of the P5’s rack if I remember correctly. The rack may be just a touch bigger overall but it’s close.
@jew0182

AppalachianMountainRiders thanks man. Probably wouldn’t be very useful for any utility purposes I guess. There just ain’t the right mix of utility and sport or a crossover out there that is built and sized right. There’s such a huge hole in the market for a machine like I envision. Something 50-56” wide not long as a boat. 600-800cc with a bench or bucket seat option. Dumping bed. Selectable front and rear lockers. Half doors with roll up windows. Able to cruise 50 mph comfortably. With the P5 tranny of coarse. I’d pay top dollar tonight for it! I mean Honda could easily transform the P5 into this. The ranger midsize is another that’s close. But I’ll never buy a Polaris the fit and finish just ain’t there for me. I love the look of the midsize ranger but that’s about it. I’m really shocked can am hasn’t made smaller defender to compete with the midsize rangers.

AppalachianMountainRiders I have an I love the X2! I just wish it were a little bit narrower I think it’s 59.1. If it were 3-4 narrower it would be perfect! I’ve about come to the realization that I’m gonna have to get over the width thing.

1983thunderbird it will be some time this spring because I’ll have to use a dealer model, unless I can find someone who bought one that will let me use it for a day, and they won’t want me taking a machine out and sloppy it up...lol. That’s why I hope to get support from the OEM!
