The 18+ GT is really a mechanical marvel. These engines make great power for their relatively small displacement and still return decent mileage when you keep your foot out of it. The potential is there to further it’s performance as well; and the 18+ cars respond crazy well to bolt ons too. It’s not uncommon for bolt on NA setups to start to approach 500whp without touching anything inside the engine. And if you can live without a 3rd pedal the 10 speed auto has a gear for any speed you want to accelerate from keeping that beautiful 5L in the meat if it’s power.

The Mustang GT isn't $40,000, it's $35,095. But whatever it is, it's stupid to make an apples to apples comparison with Mustangs of the past and complain about how much more the new car costs, as if it shouldn't be. The older Mustangs were cheaply made, crappy handling, death trap POSes, nothing like the brilliant, world beating Mustang of today. Of course it's more, but for the extra money they're asking, it is beyond worth it.

The 10 speed automatic is way faster than the manual 6 speed. Ecobeast posted a video of him racing a Charger Hellcat on the dragstrip with his stock 2018 Mustang with the automatic and he ran a 11.8 quarter mile and was right on the tail of the 707 HP Hellcat which ran a 11.5. Pretty damn close considering the Mustang is naturally aspirated and has a lot less HP than the supercharged Hellcat. Kinda embarrassing for the Dodge boys I would think.

@MasterCarguy44-pk2dq6 жыл бұрын
The 10 spd auto is not any quicker than this well driven stick. I've had three to test on a prepped track and warmed tires, and could not get an Automatic, of any of the three, to hit 60 mph in under 4.4 sec. that's the best it truely does in the real world on a good track with 93 gas, which is getting rare by the month. More than 65% or higher, of the US doesn't have over 91. A 2018 loaded premium, PP model GT automatic is 3910 lbs and the Convertible auto (which the PP is now available on), is 3994 lbs, while opting for the manual will drop 58 lbs from the equation. A base GT manual with just the PP, is 3801 lbs. The auto PP base, is 3861 lbs. a completely base mustang gt, manual, is 3772 lbs. A Camaro SS base is 3715 lbs manual, and 3782 automatic. Shucks a base auto 2014 Gt was 3688 lbs. Problem is, since epeople want to focus on their "DAMN PHONES", auto manufacturers add in lots more "distracted/dumb driver" aids. Which adds lots of weight. This same technology is being used to take away our privilege to drive, from us. In 6-8 yrs we won't be able to go buy a car that we can drive, it'll drive it self. In Canada GM is pushing a new future with the message, and I quote: "You don't need a car" any more. That coming from a few relatives in Canada. Just the opposite of what auto manufacturers are all about. It's because GM is getting heavily invested in autonomus technology and AI. Same with Ford, and soon FCA. As well as just about all the other manufacturers. So by then, if there's a vehicle that I can still drive, I'll buy it.
@400hpmustang6 жыл бұрын
Wish they would offer a stripped version, no pw, no pdl, no ac, a manual rack n pinion, and only enough electronics to manage the engine. I personally don't need driving modes, exhaust modes, backup cams, bluetooth, gps, passing sensors, etc. 1 mode, posi track differential, and 1 exhaust note, I'm good. I'm also not a huge fan of the front end, looks like an Anime character to me, prefer the look of the 13's and 14's.
@lexusls6 жыл бұрын
You're also forgetting that a lot of the extra weight is because of structural reinforcements aimed at both chassis rigidity for better handling as well as crash worthiness. With crash test standards going higher and higher, and different, more demanding tests like the small overlap, manufacturers are having to step up their game. Added weight also comes in the form of more sound deadening materials to make cars like the mustang more livable day-to-day for people that want to be able to carry on a conversation at highway speeds without shouting.

You have to know what you are doing. You can throw off performance. A wider tyre can severely affect lateral performance. A 10% drop in fuel economy, affect the tyre pressure monitors, you can't go over one inch without changing your rims, (generally), and a wider tyre in the rear will throw off the way your car turns. The inside tyre turn slower than the outside tyre. Absolutly brilliant engineers figure out which tyre meets the car's performance, fuel economy, turning radius. So..you can't just "throw wider tires in the back as the first upgrade". Most information taken from Chief Engineer for Continental tyre manufacturer

It's still slower than a SS. Lack of torque and getting heavier: Two big things that hurt acceleration, braking, handling and even mpg's. Oh, and let's not forget it doesn't make more hp than the SS. How? For one thing Chevy only uses 89-91 octane for their power ratings. Ford on the other hand, uses 93/94 octane. Technically the mustang makes 448 hp/408 lb-ft of tq on 91. The actual 0-60, & 1/4 mi test numbers by Chevy on the SS were done on a private street on their proving grounds. They use to use their 1/4 track in the middle of the grounds, but decided that's not consistent with real world traction and driving. Ford on the other hand still uses a lightly prepped 1/4 track, and like Dodge, except Dodge "highly" preps their 1/4 tracks or the track they rent out for their tests.
@SoundFaithStudios6 жыл бұрын
And? The Mustang still consistently sells better than the Camaro and challenger. As stated in this video, "It may not be the fastest muscle car, but the best all around". That's probably why Ford has never skipped a production year for the Mustang since the start. The main reason why the Camaro even exists, is to be a direct competitor to the Mustang. And it's done well chasing the shadow of the Mustang. Not saying the Camaro is a bad car, but there is more to a car's appeal than performance statistics alone.

That orange is killer in person. That exact car was on the lot up the street from me for a day literally and Sold.

I have to admit I agree; as much as I try I cannot like the orange; yellow I like, the grabber blue I like, red, black, silver, maroon, both other shades of blue, white I would be happy to buy one in each if I had the cash (and a few other things) however taxi cab orange just isn't growing on me.
