But if u can live with that, the HPP is a perfect daily drive in my opinion. On top of that, I can endure a whole week before hitting the gas station, and I like to push it on straight lines and dragging on the lights (when it's safe, lol)...anyways, it's not a fight, it's more like choosing whats the best fit for you buck and need! Good balanced review. I think at the end of the day the GT is the most desirable option, especially on the track. As a daily driver though the 2.3 might be more justifiable (albeit still a compromise) especially as the GT is such a revy engine whereby you can break the speed limit in 2nd gear (where the fun is). One would be tempted to shorten the diff in this case to enjoy more high revs at road speed. The useable low end torque on the 2.3 will be utilised on road. It's just such a pity they haven't nailed the noise of the 4 pot, maybe there's some good aftermarket exhausts around or opportunity to refine next ford upgrade as the did with the V8 in last update. Ideally the old 5 cylinder RS motor would have been awesome as the 5 cylinder sound is so unique and would of absolutely set it apart from everything else. I suppose that motor was retired in the focus for good reason ( prob emissions). Anyway great review would be awesome to have a "daily driver" comparison review to see if the gap between lessens, Cheers.

Great driving! All around the chassis on this gen Mustang is very impressive. The V8 is just amazing but I live in Southern California where our self-serving politicians and our President have really hiked up the price of gas. The irony is that we have some really fantastic driving roads over here. Because of that, for me and my money it would be the 2.3 High Performance Package with the Handling Package with a 6-speed manual. I think the 6-speed manual really suits the character of this engine and the money I save in gas means I can drive more. Also, I don't know if there is a difference between the exhaust between the 2.3 High Performance here in the States and in Australia, but the 2.3 HP over here actually sounds pretty good, and it does have crackles and pops. I am impressed so much with this car I am trying to add it to the collection. Thanks, and keep up the great work.

The thing about the ecoboost is, not 1 will stay unfettered with. You buy a COBB and JUST with the stage 1 with no other mods and the car is transformed. You do intercooler with just a K&N panel filter with an E30tune which is cheap as chips and the thing is near on 380hp and still much lighter. it really does put the engine part back above the Focus RS position and give the car that bit of character. WHich imo is not as much a charmer as the GT on the streets but something that you will enjoy more on track and on a windy mountain road. mid gear pull on a decent E30 tune will pin you back hard. very hard.

I bought a new Mustang 2.3 18:20 Ecoboost 10-speed auto convertible in 2019, after renting one for a two week touring holiday with my wife in New England. Every morning we would open up the roof, put on our Ray-Bans, get Steely Dan on the stereo and aim for the next town along the coast. Taking in the scenery with my elbow on the door and the aircon chilling the seat was such a cool way to travel, and with a 55mph speed limit there was no point in rushing, not that I wanted to. When I came home, I made straight for my local Ford Dealer, and I’ve never regretted it. So do these track comparisons mean anything to me? Do I need to shave a second off my quarter-mile? Would there have been any point in paying extra for Magnaride? Sorry, no. If you want the convertible, and like me you will be driving in the real world, the Ecoboost is all the car you need. IMHO, of course!

These comparisons/arguments always seem strange to me. If the larger capacity engine powered car, happens to be a V8, also had forced induction there would be no contest.
@vasopel2 жыл бұрын
one word: price , you see....obviously the V8 is the better model, but it costs more, these "comparisons/arguments" exist because people want to buy a Mustang and want to know if the cheaper option is good enough.

Interesting how your driving sytle changes between them. I presume mostly because of engine characteristics and gear ratios. Not a knock - just an observation. I think it would also be interesting to see how they go around somewhere a bit bigger where you can open them up a bit. I know that plays even more into the GT's hands but its not really about which is faster because we just saw that. More to see how each behaves as the speeds increase.
@sammccarthy68352 жыл бұрын
I4 is better in corners because of how fuckin heavy the front end of the V8 is
@siraff44612 жыл бұрын
@@sammccarthy6835 The GT is 52.8/47.2 front/rear. The I4 is 52/48 front/rear. There is only 65kg difference total and the GT uses larger rear wheels/tyres along with a few other differences. Its equivalent of adding 35kg to the front and 30kg to the rear. If you can tell the difference in weight balance from that on a 1700kg+ car you're better than most. You could literally make the same difference in front/rear balance by adjusting your seat further forward or rearward.

It's sad and/or just that the mentality of cars like the Mustang needing V8's will lead to these cars not being the fastest and eventually not existing at all.

Would've been interesting to see how much better the 2.3 HP would do on the new rubber, swapping the rims of the V8 to it might not be something you'd want to do with a road test but should've been fine on the race track. But considering that the V8 didn't really have severe traction issues, the 2.3 still would've been slower. I'd just like to know by how much :P
@druscanam Жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking, you can hear the tyres complaining the whole time on during the lap on the 2.3 whilst on the GT not only the traction seems better but the turn in and lateral grip too. Don't even think a rim swap is necessary, just a set of PS4 S tyres or equivalent like some Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport or the newly realised Bridgstone Potenza Sports (RE001 replacements)

I drove a couple of Challengers one was older. It felt ok to me, it just felt heavy. I'm more of a Ford guy these days and I just felt more at home in a Mustang. I ended up getting a 2009 GT over a 2013, mainly because the 2013 was an auto. I enjoyed the 2009 music alot better as well. The 4.6 just sounds better to me than the Coyote. I ended up not really getting to enjoy it much and we "needed" a truck so it got traded in for a 2010 f150 Supercab. I know I'm sticking to older cars/trucks but my vehicle budget is half what my wife's is. She has a 2018 Grand Cherokee with the V6 and it is every bit as fast as that 2009 GT.

Yeah, I've gotten a lot of compliments on my HPP (handling pack, black on black, possibly illegal tint lol). Nobody in real life actually cares that it's a 2.3 and not a 5.0... May be just because how good the car looks (especially having quad tip exhaust and the rear diffuser), the HPP rear looks great compared to a standard Ecoboost.

Far out these Turbo Charged Mustangs are quick as hell when compared to the V8. Looking at the V8 numbers you would think the performance would be heaps better. But when we see Mercedes making a 4 Cylinder with 425 HP makes you think technology has advanced a lot.

I’m a week away from getting one and while I would love to get say a GT500, gas in SoCal is so bad it’s either an ecoboost or a Toyota. I have a classic that has the V8 and even once it’s done being restored I won’t daily driver it. Don’t have those worries so much with a new 4 cylinder pony and it’s helluva lot easier to insure than the 69. I’m aiming to get it in white to match the nice new Oxford White I had put on the 69.

idk given the weight difference...and that its a shared platform...ive always wondered what a "racing" or custom built 2.3 EB mustang could perform like with different struts/height/springs than a standard V8 designed engine bay. As well as a multi point strut brace to add some weight to keep the front/steering/grip planted. Since the 2.3 eco isnt really the breadwinner of the mustang its not like ford would ever invest into making something like this into an actual adaptation. But in reality those changes completely change the handling/cornering characteristics of the same car/unibody/chassis. Just to really get a more "build" centered around the 2.3 and its potential vs the v8/gt design/original design. Unfortunate the history with their MT transmission/reliability
@N4CR2 жыл бұрын
NA ALL DAY. Traction improvement is due to laggy crappy turbo power curves, its easier to traction control an NA V8 also power pulses are 2x more per revolution = more spread out = less tyre stress/peak load.
